The Chairman's Notes Firstly, let me confirm that Ian Saunders and his management team left the Club after discussions with Ian on Tuesday. Recent results and a style of football that was not achieving our aspirations meant that changes were necessary if we were to progress next season. Hence the discussions that ended with the parting of the ways. We would like to thank Ian for his hard work and honest endeavour in trying to move club forward after a difficult start that was not of his making. Today we welcome Goadsby as our match sponsor. In particular Goadsby Commercial who have offices in Winchester, Southampton and Bournemouth. In Winchester Goadsby is a major commercial estate agent whose offices sit alongside the residential operation at 45 Jewry Street. Goadsby Residential have offices in Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire. We appreciate their generous sponsorship of this afternoon s match and welcome their team to the game. We also welcome the players, fans, management and officials of Barnstaple Town here to the Denplan this afternoon. At our match on the 3 rd December, the Citizens scored three first half goals through Green, Feeney and Neighbour before Barnstaple s Jenkins got one back in the second half. Next Saturday 1st April we are away to Paulton Rovers, whom Barnstaple played on Tuesday night. Off the pitch, I am pleased to see that we have now raised 553, which is 25% of our target of 2200, which is the cost of the repairs to the Dugout burger bar roof. Thank you to all who have donated and if any more fans which to help on this one, then please go to the Winchester City page on Just Giving and thank you if you do. It has been our first introduction to crowdfunding and hey, it s worked! Kind Regards Paul Murray Chairman 4 21

Malcolm's thoughts As at the time of writing our playoff hopes are virtually extinct it is worth looking back on the season as a whole. As things stand we will probably finish close to mid-table and hopefully in the top half. After our slow start to the season we would have probably settled for that, but after our excellent start to 2017 when we even had hopes of the playoffs there is also a feeling of disappointment. Probably the best results in the league were the home wins against Salisbury and Evesham and the away success at Swindon Supermarine. We also enjoyed good runs in the F. A. Cup, F. A. Vase and Hampshire Senior Cups with our 4-0 success in the first named being particularly meritorious. A lot of people have worked hard behind the scenes to keep this club functioning at this level and although the list is too long for individuals to be mentioned I thank everyone for their efforts, It also appears that the Commercial wing of the club has made contact with several companies, but one thing that I would like to see improved is the publicity around the town. Whenever I visit the Winchester Town Centre, the library or local pub I see no mention of the club and if I was new to the area unless I read the local papers I would probably not know the football club existed. This is intended as an observation not a criticism, and I am not sure in any case how much time I would have to rectify this. However, with the city of Winchester having a thriving University, a prestigious college and a sizeable population I am sure that the club s fan base has the potential to grow. At the away Yate match former players of the home club sponsored the match and I think that things like this usually work well. Other people might have different ideas, but I would like to say I have very much enjoyed the games I have seen this season. As things stand I am on course to have seen every home league match this season and probably not many people can say that

Salisbury 3 Winchester City 1 By Dave Malone Malcolm's Welcome We welcomed Barnstaple Town to Winchester for today s league game. Barnstaple Town who were promoted from the Great Mills Western League last season are not to be confused with Barnstaple, who play in the North Devon League. Despite the fact that this is the first ever meeting between the clubs I have in fact seen Barnstaple Town play and that was an F. A. Cup tie at Eastleigh in the 2004/05 season, although I have visited the town when on holiday in nearby Chittlehampton many years ago, with my only memory being passing the TV shop to see how the test match was progressing. The F. A. Cup match saw Eastleigh win 5-0 with the Beck brothers Martin and Stewart and Danny Smith amongst the scorers. Martin was the manager at Alresford Town last season, while Danny Smith captained Winchester s F. A. Vase winning team of At that game I jokingly said to Jane Beck mother of Martin and Stewart that she helped make two of the goals that day. Jane s husband Steve was scout at Eastleigh for many years and has now joined Paul Doswell at Sutton United. It is funny to think after what has subsequently happened that this was only Eastleigh s second ever appearance in the 3rd qualifying round of the F. A. Cup, and on this occasion they lost to Tiverton Town in the next round, a club who also currently play in our division. Barnstaple Town were formed in 1904 as Pitton Yeo Vale and prior to the Second World War were members of the North Devon and Devon and Exeter Leagues, both of which they had previously won. After 20 minutes, with the score 3-0 to Salisbury, it looked like a real thrashing was on the cards. Thankfully we reverted to a flat back four, condemning a hapless wing back formation, and suddenly the game was much more even. Sam Wilson reduced the deficit, and had we not spurned a decent chance just before the break - who knows what the outcome might have been. The second half was much more controlled, although our hosts still had the majority of the play. That said, our lads dug in and gave all they had - albeit pretty much in a lost cause. Obviously, to go into a game like this without Smith, Tomasso, Jenkinson, Taz, Matthews & King makes life a tad difficult - but in the end we at least salvaged some pride. Finally, a word about the Salisbury supporters. It is to their credit that they still support their twice defunct Club, and they turn out in their droves - which provides the Club with a very large budget. We can only live in hope of one day we can attract such a following. That said - I have never heard such a bunch of moaning, groaning and negative supporters. They were never happy - and even when they were 3-0 up they continued to berate every single decision the Referee made. I wonder what they are like when they are losing!!! 18 In 1948 they joined the Western League, a league they had remained in ever since prior to being promoted to the Southern League at the end of last season. They finished champions of the top flight of Western League twice, in 1952/53 and 1979/80 and finished runners up three times. They have on three occasions finished champions of the second tier of Western League football, the most recent being in 2015 so this is their second successive promotion. They have on four occasions reached the 1st round proper of the F. A. Cup, the most recent being in 1972/73 and have also reached both the 2nd round proper of the F. A. Trophy and the 4th round proper of the F. A. Vase, losing to eventual winners Arlesey Town in the latter instance.. Amongst their former players are Lew Chatterley and John Hinton who also both played for Southampton. Lew was also for six years Lawrie McMenemy s right hand man at The Dell, and also helped Alan Ball while Ball was manager at The Dell. John Hore who made a total of almost 600 football league appearances representing both Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City is amongst their former managers. 7

A short history of Barnstable Town The club was established in 1904 as Pilton Yeo Vale, and were founder members of the North Devon League in the same year. They played in the league's first match, hosting Ilfracombe on 1 October; the visitors won 4 2 with several hundred in attendance. However, that was to be the only defeat all season in the league and club went on to win the inaugural league title. At the end of the season they adopted their current name. After winning a second North Devon league title in , they switched to the Exeter & District League, where they remained until World War I. After the war they returned to the North Devon League, before rejoining the Exeter & District League. They won the league title in and were runners-up the following season, before joining Division Two of the Western League in In Barnstaple won Division Two, earning promotion to Division One. In they reached the first round of the F.A. Cup for the first time, losing 5 2 to Folkestone in a replay. The club were league champions in , and reached the first round of the F.A. Cup again in , losing 4 1 at home to Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic in front of a record crowd of 6,200. They reached the first round of the F.A. Cup for a third time in , losing 4 0 at Exeter City. The league was reduced to a single division in 1960, and the club reached the F.A. Cup first round again in , before losing 2 0 at home to Bilston. The league expanded back to two divisions in 1976, with Barnstaple placed in the Premier Division.] In they won their second Western League title, and finished as runners-up in the following two seasons. After finishing second-from bottom in , Barnstaple were relegated to Division One. Three seasons later they won Division One, earning promotion back to the Premier Division. They remained in the Premier Division until being relegated again at the end of the season, which saw them finish bottom of the Premier Division. However, they made an immediate return to the top division after winning Division One in The following season saw the club finish as runners-up in the Premier Division, earning promotion to Division One South & West of the Southern League. This season will see Barnstaple Town play at the highest level in the club s history, with everyone at the club looking forward to new challenges with new grounds to visit the biggest step the club has taken since joining the Western League in

Winchester City 0 Swidon Supermarine 2 By Malcolm Clarke By Malcolm Clarke Winchester went into this match 11 points short of the playoffs with 9 games remaining. It was felt that if they could reduce this number to a single figure by close of play, but their loss and victory for Evesham has increased the deficit to 14 points and with it their hopes pretty well extinguished. Swindon were still very much in the playoff mix themselves and although Winchester had won 2-0 at Swindon on Guy Fawkes Day they never looked like repeating their success in this fixture. Jamie Barron and Olly Searle returned to the side having been cup-tied on Tuesday and Danny Smith was also available again and Nick Watts was also given a starting berth. Joe Briggs and Dan King were injured and Jack Hannam and I K Hill dropped to the bench. Early on Andy Jenkinson had an effort deflected for a corner, but the visitors started to gain a lot of possession and the Winchester defence had to make some important blocks to keep them out. Lewis Noice in the home goal had to tip an effort from Brad Hooper over the bar, while at the other end Adam Roberts broke clear, but his effort was just wide. Swindon did take the lead in the 38th minute when Ryan Campbell's effort hit the bar and Callum Parsons following up headed home. Early in the second half Ryan Campbell had an effort deflected wide, but it was 2-0 in the 54th minute when Adam Roberts fouled Joe Selman and Brad Hooper converted the resulting penalty. The visitors were very much on top by now and Noice made good saves from Selman, Campbell and Callum Parsons. Winchester who again missed the influential Stuart Green in addition to the other injured players struggled to get any meaningful attacks going, although they bought on Sam Wilson as substitute. In the 85th minute Adam Roberts set up Craig Feeney who forced a save from Connor Johns and the home team did have one headed chance which went well off target, but in the end they were well beaten. 16 Yate Town 1 Winchester City 0 Winchester suffered their fourth defeat in a row losing 1-0 to Yate Town. They are now 16 points away from 5th place with only 6 games to play and if Evesham beat Swindon Supermarine on Wednesday, then the Hampshire club will be mathematically out of the promotion equation. Yate are in the lower half of the table, but in the two games against Winchester they have defended solidly conceding only one goal in the two games. Their chairman is Colin Pick whose company Picksons sponsor the club and have the company name on their shirts. Previously Picksons appeared in the names of former Hellenic League clubs Badminton Picksons ands Almondsbury Picksons. Winchester made three changes to the starting line-up from Tuesday with Joe Briggs, Danny Smith and Adam Roberts coming in and Olly Searle, Jack Hannam and Joe Hayward all dropping to the bench, The first half was fairly uneventful. Lewis Noice had to save a shot from Connor Jones and a free kick from Mike Baker, while at the other end Harvey Rivers made a routine save from Jamie Barron and had to go full length to keep out an effort from Craig Feeney. However, most of the attacking movements were intercepted or blocked before a shot on goal could be produced. In the second half Rivers made an excellent save from Jamie Ford tipping his effort over the bar, while at the other end Luke Bryan was only fractionally away from getting a decisive touch to a Steve Gilbert cross. Yate took the lead midway through the half when a good run by full back Mayson Evans on the overlap was touched in by Bryan at the far post. Having gone a goal down Winchester began to dominate possession, although the visitors were defending with great determination. Rivers made excellent saves from Howard Neighbour and Stuart Green and Lewis Hide had a couple of chances, but despite forcing several corners and their wingers providing an abundance of balls into the box they could not find a breakthrough even when the visitors were reduced to 10 men when having used all three substitutes goalscorer Bryan limped off. Yate invited several of their former players to this game, some of whom had represented them in the Southern League Premier Division and it is not surprising they chose Rivers as the man of the match for his goalkeeping heroics. 9

Barnstable Town pen pics STEVEN OLIVER GOALKEEPER - Joined last season from close neighbours Bideford AFC. A very experienced and quality goalkeeper whose clubs also include Torrington and Ilfracombe. Olly is a big personality on and off the pitch. Good Luck to Suss, Amo and Jaimie Dave Malone, our Director of Football, has made the following statement : JIMMY THORNE GOALKEEPER - Jim is a Barnstaple lad and a keeper who has spent the last 3 seasons at the club and is ever improving. Jim has a fantastic attitude and has become a very good keeper who is willing to learn. A great lad and player who has been a vital part of the teams success in the past few seasons. Sus took over the role at a difficult time, and despite a very hard start to the season he took us close to a play off position by the end of January. However, since his enforced absence (due to his work commitments), our form has dipped - and recent results have been indifferent. NIALL HEENEY MIDFIELD - Joined at the start 15/16 season. Niall is a player who has an abundance of talent, is confident on the ball, and someone who can control the pace of a game. Likes a goal and has already proved his worth. In considering how we take the Club forward, we concluded that a change this time may be beneficial - which will give us time to ensure we start ext season in a more positive manner than we did this term. AARON HARPER-PENMAN (CAPTAIN) CENTRE-HALF - Aaron Re-Joined his hometown club as captain in the summer of 2013 from near neighbours Bideford AFC. The capture of Aaron showed not only the intent of the club to build a good local team, but also showed the faith Aaron has in the club and his teammates. A quality centre half who wears his heart on his sleeve. Sus has given the Club his full commitment since he arrived, and he has many attributes that will ensure he has a positive future. We thank him for all his efforts. LEE FRANCIS (VICE - CAPTAIN) /RIGHT MIDFIELD - The former Ilfracombe Town player signed for his home town side in the summer of 2013 and brings solidity to the midfield. A player who is comfortable on the ball, has great athleticism, strong in the tackle and has an eye for goal. Lee is delighted to be back at Barnstaple Town FC the club he played for throughout his youth. JACK JENKINS - CENTRE MIDFIELD - Jack signed in the summer of 2013 from local team Boca Seniors and came here with the reputation as one of the most gifted players in the area. A hard working player who is always looking to get on the ball and play one of his killer passes. A payer with great technical ability, awareness and a lovely first touch. KYLE PAINE - RIGHT MIDFIELD A talented young wide player plucked from North Devon Premier Division winners Torridgeside in the summer of Kyle was their star performer. An attacking wide player with a good first touch, a great crosser of the ball and an eye for goal. We would also like to thank his support team of Amo and Jamie Cotton for their hard work during the season.... HAMPSHIRE F.A. A lovely left foot and great balance Liam loves to get forward from the back to put in some of his legendary crosses. Equally at home at left back or left midfield. This young player has a big future and will be looking to continue playing a big part this season

A natural centre back. WILL NICHOLLS FORWARD - Goal machine, give him a chance he will score you a goal.2014/15 was Will s first season playing at Western League level and he was brilliant. Always willing to learn and has a great future. Super sub. SCOTT HUXTABLE - DEFENDER - Young local lad who has previously played for Ilfracombe Town and Bristol Manor Farm. Right full back but can play centre half or left back. Came to the club in the summer of 2014/15. CRAIG ALLAN DEFENDER - Another quality North Devon footballer who has been playing at Southern League level for a few seasons now with Bridgwater and Paulton Rovers. A comfortable very quick, agile, tall and strong centre half. JAMES MAYNE CENTRE-HALF - Joined from Ilfracombe Town at the start of 2014/15 season. Exactly what we needed. He brings great experience and a winning mentality. Great football brain and likes to play. Never gives up. Followed by the Sunday Junior B Cup Final at 2.30p.m. AFC Trades v Barway 14 SCOTT SHARP FORWARD - A local lad and one who is known to a lot of local people has scored goals for fun in the North Devon Premier League. Due to work commitments Scott missed a lot of last season but made the step up at the back end of last season and made a huge impact. Very quick, strong and has 2 great feet. Scott is always willing to learn has a lot to offer upfront and will cause a lot of problems for defenders. JAMES BLAKE FORWARD - Blakey will be remembered by us for scoring 2 goals that helped Willand Rovers beat us in the Les Phillips Cup Final a couple of seasons back where he certainly caught the eye. James has previously played at this level with Taunton Town. Will bring us a bit more experience at this level and will also bring us more goals. Strong, great in the air, a turn of foot, an eye for goal and great with both feet Blakey is sure to be a big hit with the players as well as the 1111 supporters.
