1 INDIGENOUS PLAYER PROFILES SOUTH AUGUSTA FOOTBALL CLUB In the 105 year history of South Augusta Football Club since 1912 at least 150 Indigenous players have played for the club up until This year through the Indigenous Round the club recognises all Indigenous players who have played for the South Augusta football club during this time. The following are Indigenous profiles of the players who have played over 100 games, played in A Grade Premierships or who have won Fairest and Bests for the club. Bradley Amos Played from (108 A Grade games 14 B Grade) 2006 A Grade Premiership player Bradley joined the club from Quorn Wolves in 2005 after playing for South Augusta in the Colts. Bradley was a member of the 2006 Premiership side kicking 8 goals in the Grand Final and was the leading goalkicker that year. After playing for Souths in the middle when he first stated he moved to Full Forward and was invaluable in our success with his accurate kick for goal and quick recovery, beating most opponents. Bradley deservedly won the Fairest and Best for the Club in 2006 and in form is an important part of the club s success this year. He was selected in the SGL on several occasions and kicked over 100 goals in a season for the club, one of the few to do so. Tim Amos- Played over 100 Senior games Tim has played 23 A Grade games and 78 B Grade games for the club. Tim played in the 2015 B Grade premiership side and has won the B Grade Association Medal and B Grade Fairest and Best. Tim has played on the wing and on ball and now also plays as an elusive forward in the B Grade side. Jimmy Anderson 1964 A Grade Premiership player The 1964 A Grade premiership side player recently passed away. Jimmy was the best player in the final and was amongst the first Indigenous players to have played for the club. Recruited for 1 year in 1964, the on-baller played a great game on the day and was named best player in the local paper stating The outstanding display at centre by Jim Anderson completely justified South Augusta recall of him from Darwin 6 weeks ago. He played with rare judgement and great pace. His courage had no limit and his stamina was tremendous. He fought like a tiger for South Augusta from the start to their glorious finish. South won by 2 points against Port in what is rated as our best premiership in the competition of 12 teams. Jimmy was also a legend in Darwin, having made the NT Hall of Fame, played for West Perth and several premierships for the Buffaloes. Jimmy s grandson s Jed and Jo Anderson have played AFL football for North Melbourne and Carlton and more recently granddaughter Jasmine was part of the victorious Adelaide Crows Ladies squad.

2 Anthony Anno, played from /94/2000 A Grade Premiership player Life member, A and B Grade Coach Anthony played for the club between 1988 and 2005 having played 209 A Grade SGL games and over 110 B Grade games for the club. Anthony was captain of the club for 6 years and played in 3 A Grade Premierships in 1993, 1994 and Anthony was judged by the League as being in the South Augusta best 10 players of the SGL since Anthony won the clubs A Grade Fairest and best in 1997 when he also won the most valuable and Best Team man. An ex rugby player from Qld, Anthony quickly took to the game and was an excellent tackler and hard ball player. Anthony coached the A Grade in 2010 taking the team to the Grand Final in its loss to Centrals. Anthony is a Lifemember of the club, currently is a runner for 3 grades and currently works as an Administration Officer in Port Augusta, also being a qualified chef. Mark Austin played B Grade Premiership player, 2000 A Grade Premiership player Mark played 36 A Grade games and 139 B Grade games for South s over the period 1993 to 2004 having played a combination of A grade and B grade. Mark played in the 2000 A grade premiership and 1995 B Grade premiership, mainly playing in the Forward lines. An excellent kick and strong mark he has won many awards over the years and has been an integral part of the club s success and excellent team man. Mark also coached the South Augusta under 15 s side. Corey Bawdin 28 A Grade games, 95 B Grade games Played , he was a 2006 A Grade Premiership Player Corey played Colts for the club and was a member of the 2006 Premiership after first playing A Grade football that year. Corey was mainly utilised in the forward lines and his pace and skill made his damaging when given the opportunity. Corey had a late start to the season in 2007 but was a valuable player when he rejoined the club halfway during the year to play his last games for the club that year. Robert Barnes Jnr 11 A Grade games, 25 B Grade games Played and 2006 A Grade Premiership player Robert played 11 A Grade and 25 B Grade games was a product of South Augusta Colts and played in the 2006 A Grade Premiership side where he was one of the club s best players, nullifying a dangerous forward for Centrals. Robert was an excellent on ball player.

3 Ian Brown Played until 2015, 122 A Grade games 34 B Grade games 2006 A Grade Premiership player Ian was a product of South Augusta Colts and transferred back to South from Quorn Wolves in Playing at either Centre half Forward or Full forward, Ian was a dangerous forward and goal kicker and was a valuable player in the 2006 Premiership side. Ian was also in the best players in the 2005 Grand Final an also played in the 2015 B Grade Premiership. Adam Buzzacott Played from and 9 A Grade games and 97 B Grade games Adam was one of the earliest Indigenous players to play over 100 games for the club having mainly played on the wing or on the ball. Adam was a player with pace and skill and was a valuable player for South B Grade over many years between 1998 and 2005, often hard years for the B Grade. Adam was reliable and stuck by the team through this unsuccessful period. Darryl Buzzacott Played from , 33 A Grade games and 198 B Grade games. Club Lifemember Darryl played in a variety of positions including the backlines. Darryl has also supported the club through the hard times and as a senior member of the team he has been a role model for younger Indigenous players. Darryl was Vice captain of the B Grade in Darryl was awarded club lifemember after he played 200 Senior games for the club Warren Coulthard Played from Premiership side, 136 B Grade games for the club. Warren played for the club between 1992 to 2001 and was a member of the 1995 B Grade Premiership side. Warren mainly played in the forward lines and was an excellent left foot kick and had the pace to destroy many opponents. Warren was a reliable consistent player and provided great service to coaches in the B grade over those years. Darryl Dadleh Played from , and member of 1981 Premiership side Darryl was a product of South Augusta Colts and played in the 1981 A Grade Premiership side that defeated Risdon. Darryl won a League medal in Under 18 s in 1977 and mainly played on the Half Forward lines during the John Reid era before transferring to Central Augusta in Darryl had an excellent leap, pace and skill that remained with him during his long career which spanned over 200 SGL Games.

4 Fabian Davey Played from , He played 80 A Grade games and 6 B Grade games, He was 1993/ 1994 Premiership Player Fabian played for South Augusta between 1991 to 1998 having played in the 1993 and 1994 A Grade Premiership sides after being recruited from Mallee Park in Port Lincoln. Fabian mainly played as an elusive forward pocket between stints on the ball and his contributions during the Premiership years included a bag of 8 gaols in the preliminary final. Known as Legend Fabian was an excellent player for the club and his contribution extended to assisting younger Indigenous players in the team as Mentor. Dwayne Fielding Played from , 16 A Grade games 25 B Grade games 1994 premiership player Dwayne Fielding played for the club between 1993 and 1994 and was a member of the 1994 A Grade Premiership side. Dwayne left for Quorn Wolves in 1995 but during his time at the club he was an excellent performer for the club either as Rover or in the Forward lines. Dwayne s pace and aggression was an asset to the club and he played no small part in the club s success that year. Mark Gillard played , 25 games Mark originally from Darwin travelled from Adelaide each week for 2 years to assist the club when the club was short of Ruckmen. Mark came into the A Grade during the 2012 season and was a handy back up for Alan Margatich as well as playing as a tall forward. The club valued his contribution as it did all of the players who travelled from Adelaide each week in the clubs 100 th year. Mark currently works as a Sports and Recreation Officer in Darwin. Trevor Hannes Played from A Grade games and 26 B grade games 2006 premiership Player Trevor came through South Augusta Colts and played on the wing and his pace beat most opponents. Trevor played several A Grade Grand Finals and he was a member of the 2006 A Grade Premiership side having played a great game on the day. Trevor s consistency in 2007 was rewarded with his inclusion in the Northern Areas training squad in Known as Road Runner.

5 Brett Jones Played , 202 A Grade games 2006 A Grade Premiership Player, Fairest and Best A Grade 2004, Club Lifemember Brett played Colts for the club and has been a champion senior player for the club since 2001 having a consistent year in 2004 when he won the clubs Fairest and Best and was Runner up in Mainly playing on the ball or Centre, Brett can be a stand out and match winner on his day and he has been an important part of the club s success over the years. He is a club Life member. Keiron Keeler Played , 102 A Grade games 4 B Grade games A Grade Premiership 2000, Madigan Medal 2002, Fairest and Best 1999 and Keiron Keeler was recruited from Quorn Wolves in 1998 and played his last season in 2004 having played in several grand finals and being an integral part of the 2000 Premiership side. He was in the Best players in the 1999 Grand Final side s loss to Port. Keiron was a champion player for the club mainly playing on the ball or Centre. In 2002 Keiron won the Madigan Medal and was Fairest and Best for the club in 1999 and Keiron was the A Grade Vice captain in Keiron was a mentor for younger Indigenous players in the club and was a valuable contributor for his time at the club. Bryon Matthews Played from , 1993/94 premiership player, 90 A Grade games 5 B Grade games, A Grade captain 1993/94 Bryon was a product of South Augusta Colts and played for the club between 1990 and 1995 before transferring to Alice Springs through work, now living in Sydney. Bryon mainly played on the ball or Centre and was known as a hardball player bringing other players into the game with his handball and defensive skills. Bryon was one of the first and youngest Indigenous captains at the club and he repaid the faith of Coach Pat Hynes who appointed him to the position by playing excellent games in the finals, being amongst the best in The Grand Final. Shaun McLennan Played , Premiership player 1993, Madigan Medal 1993, Fairest and Best 1993 Shaun played for the club between 1991 to 1993 after being recruited from Ceduna. Shaun was a champion player for the club mainly playing in the Centre or on the ball. Shaun played in several representative matches and played in the 1991 Grand final side and premiership side in Shaun s skills and agility was

6 respected by all clubs and this was rewarded in 1993 when he won the Madigan Medal. An outstanding contributor for the club over the 3 years at the club he will be remembered as an excellent player. Shaun went on to play in other leagues with success. Graham O Brien , 2006 A Grade Premiership,12 A Grade 4 B Grade games Graham was a welcome addition to the side midway through 2006 and was a valuable contributor adding height to the forward lines. Graham played between 2004 and 2006 and was transferred to Alice Springs in He is remembered for his great kick and presence on the field in the Grand final. Christian Reid Played , 2000 and 2006 A Grade Premiership player 242 A Grade games, 13 B Grade games, Club Lifemember Christian played for the club In 1998 he won the McSporran Medal for the Best player in the Under 18 s. He played in the back pocket after starting his career on the ball. Known as The Rock Christian is an attacking backman and he has played no small part in the clubs success over the years. Christian came through South s Colts and was appointed Vice Captain at the club, working as a mentor and senior member of the team. He is a club Lifemember. James Schmerl Played , 97 A Grade games, 18 B Grade games 2000 A Grade Premiership. James played between 1995 and 2005 having been part of several A Grade Grand finals and the 2000 A Grade Premiership. An Elusive Left footer, James had pace and a long pick that penetrated deep into the forward lines. On his day James was unbeatable and he will be remembered for his skills and carefree attitude around the club. Clifford Smith Played , check games A Grade Premiership 1993 Clifford was originally recruited from the West Coast town of Ceduna and proved to be an illusive half forward player with great pace and an accurate kick. In one finals match Clifford managed to kick 9 goals on the half forward flank. He was a member of the Premiership team that defeated Port at Port Augusta in 1993 and will be remembered as a friendly, well liked member of the team. Clifford currently resides in Western Australia near Kalgoorlie, working on the mines.

7 Michael Witchen , 12 A Grade, 71 B grade games, B Grade League Medal Michael played from the club between and had a great year in 2002 when he won both the B Grade Fairest and Best and the league Best Player Medal. He also won the B Grade Fairest and Best in Michael had great pace and skills and should have played more A Grade games for the club before he retired at the end of the 2004 season. Ian Waye- A Grade Premiership player, 100 Senior games Played until 2003 Ian played in the 2000 A Grade premiership team and finished with 91 A Grade game and 9 B grade games. Ian was a skilful on baller and rover and a creative around the goals. Ian left to play for Central Augusta in 2003 and his brother Robert Waye also played A Grade football for the club. Clayton Milera A Grade Premiership Clayton has returned to the club this season after a couple of years playing for Koonibba. Clayton is a South Augusta junior coming through the ranks from U13 s through to premierships in the U18s and as an A grade premiership player in the 2012 centenary year. Clayton has a special awareness on the football field and ability to do the miraculous with football in hand. One of the most gifted young talents in the SGL. In 2011 he won the Under 18s Association Medal. Jaylon Wingfield 2016 A Grade Premiership player 67 A Grade games, 17 B Grade games Jaylon played in the 2016 A Grade premiership and has played either on the ball or in the backlines over his career. Jaylon is a mentor to the younger players in the team and is currently playing in Broken Hill after a move to the town through employment.

8 CURRENT A GRADE PLAYERS AND 2016 PREMIERSHIP PLAYERS FOR SOUTHS Brendon Colson Brendon joined the club in 2016 originally from Central Whyalla and North Adelaide. Brendon played a major role in the 2016 Premiership with his elusiveness, strong marking and accurate goal kicking. Brendon has elite skills and is impossible to stop in a one on one situation with his defender. Currently leading the SGL goal kicking table we look forward to Brendon kicking more goals in 2017 and in the future. Garry Warren Garry has come back to Souths this year after starting his junior football with the club and having stints at West Augusta and Coober Pedy. Garry is the ultimate utility that could play in any position on the ground with his height, speed and marking ability he has the ability to win a game single handily as he has shown throughout the year. Aziel Stuart Aziel is the son of former A grade premiership player Bradley Amos, and after 2016 joined his father on the SAFC Premiership player list with his magnificent finals series being a key to winning the flag. Aziel has come through the junior ranks and has always had the look of a star in the making. Aziel is currently playing reserves football for North Adelaide after a stint with the Port Adelaide magpies at the beginning of the year. Aziel has game breaking ability with both his leg speed and ball use and is a welcome addition in the A grade team when available. Kahran McKenzie Kmac as he is known is a classy midfield/forward player who has an amazing ability to weave in and out of traffic. Kmac is only lightly built but has an underrated strength and hardness to his game, after a consistent 2016 which had him finish high in the Madigan Medal he has continued on his good form in Kahran started playing junior football for South Augusta and has played in U18 and the 2016 A grade premierships. Billy Joe Russell Billy Joe is another product of South Augusta junior football and has come up through the ranks to play in both an U18 and the A Grade 2016 premiership. Billy recently returned to the club midway through the year after previously starting the season with Angaston. The club is fortunate to have Billy s talent back in in 2017 as he provides exceptional speed, flair and great tackling ability that has set the tone for his teammates since returning. Kyle Aitken Kyle has played a handful of games in the A Grade in 2017 after a stellar year in the B Grade in Kyle has pace to burn and can set games alight on the wing. Kyle has been unlucky to not play more A Grade due to the player points system but has a bright future with the club and will become a permanent member in A grade in the near future.

9 Kareem Aitken Kareem is the younger brother of Kyle and both came to the club in Kareem is still eligible for the U18s has played regularly in the A Grade when available. Kareem attends college in Adelaide and also is a North Adelaide player in their junior grades. Kareem like Kyle is blessed with outstanding pace, is a great young teammate and has played a significant role as a new young player. The club looks forward to watching him grow and get better each week. Zachary Millar Zach came to the club at the beginning of the year via Darwin and has slowly built into the season as it has progressed. Zach has previously played league football for North Adelaide in the mid to late 2000 s and also State representative sides. Strongly built with a touch of football class Zach has very clean hands and quality disposal on either side of his body.
