1 Welcome from the President I would like to congratulate two men on such a great job in their work over such a long time. Both Brian and Barry have devoted many years to the junior talent program here in Sunraysia. 48 years of service between them and both going strong Brian Weightman and Barry Soundry have clocked up 48 years of service to junior football talent in the Sunraysia region. Brian has been a part of the u/15 talent program now for 27 years as a Coach, Team Manager & Selector and is still as passionate as ever. Barry also has 21 years service to the program as the head trainer and support staff Between them over the years they have seen some great young kids start their football careers as part of the V/line Cup program. With some names going onto play at the highest level such as Josh Hunt - Geelong, Mathew Knights - Richmond, Mathew Croft - Bulldogs, Bower Brothers - Richmond, Tarrant Brothers - Collingwood/Kangaroos, Colin Sylvia - Melbourne, Mark Alvey - Bulldogs, Ben McGlynn - Hawthorn/Sydney, Sam Kerridge - Adelaide Crows just to name a few. 2 Brett Henderson Game Sense Coaching Seminar Sunraysia coaches association Conducted a Pioneers Information session and Coaching Seminar with Brett Henderson head coach of the Pioneers Football club Tac Cup Brett spoke about the inportance of game sense training for youth and junior playres to develop their dession making prossess and the inportance to develop players in different positions and lean the inportance of defence. 4 Sunraysia Diversity Squad Eleven members of the Sunraysia Diversity Squad had the opportunity to get their photo taken with former AFL Melbourne star Arron Davey. The boys come from different back grounds from Indigenous, Tongan, Afghan and Asian. Arron spoke to the boys about his football journey and his life away from football growing up with his mother and brothers and sister. Arron said his mother was a very important to the way he is today and the respect he was taught to show his coaches and teammates going through his junior years. Arron told the kids he was over looked In two drafts but kept his focus on his boy hood dream to play AFL. With good grounding playing football in the SANFL and at Port Melbourne before being drafted by the Melbourne Football Club. Arron had all the boys full attention with plenty of interesting question asked in regards to his AFL career and life. This was a fantastic opportunity for all the boys who attended the session and will no doubt take away some very important information on life skills and football knowledge. Drill of the Month from the Sunraysia Coaches association Title: Forwards Movement Explanation: This Drill will teach forwards they do not always start a lead from being flat-footed in the goal square. Often forwards may be up the ground after chasing an opponent. The forwards must then charge back towards their own goal to be in the best position to be an option for their team. 1. Coach rolls ball into Red who with no pressure, kicks to leading Red half-forward. This Red halfforward has Black defending him. 2. While this happens the other Red forwards reposition themselves to either lead up at their teammate or for a long kick to their advantage. 3. Red half-forward looks inside 50 and kicks the ball to the best option. Red forwards should be leading at Red half-forwards, with one Red forward sliding back inside 50 as the longer option.

5 Variation: Add forwards and defenders at both ends. Defenders (black) can transition to offence if the ball is turned over (if they gain possession). They can then and move the ball to 1 of 2 free midfield players who can then kick to the best forward option. The drill continues until a score or a second turn-over of possession occurs. Same Drill as Drill 1, however on the turn-over the blacks Teaching Points: Kicking to advantage & Marking skills a focus. Decision making, body positioning and timing of leads important. Team work required to free up space (movement). In variation, transition skills important. Forwards need to quick transition from offence to defence and apply pressure.
