Appearance of a Pontefract Collieries side in the 1950 s. Folded in the 1960 s only for the name to return a couple of years later when United merged with a local youth side and adopted the name for themselves. The new club found considerable success, before joining the Yorkshire League in Yorkshire League Division Three Championship win in 1982, the last season of the old Yorkshire and Midland Leagues, which then combined to form the NCEL. The Colls were founder members of the new league, and have remained there to this day. Successive promotions were gained in the first two seasons. This meteoric rise saw the Colls into the top flight of the NCEL, a position they held for a decade. Progress on the field was matched by ground improvements, as floodlights, a new clubhouse, stands, seats, and other major changes took place. Managers Paul Cooper, John Brown, and Ged Elliott had been the main inspirations behind the rise of the club during this sustained period of progress. But when the last of this line, Ged Elliott, left the club during , a sudden decline could not be halted and the first relegation for many a year came about. The Colls bounced straight back, taking the Runners-Up spot, and winning the Wilkinson Sword Trophy along the way. Success could not be sustained, though, and by , a disastrous start saw the first 11 games lost, and only 7 points gained by Christmas as the club lost its Premier Division status. Successes at youth level were ultimately unable to be repeated by the senior squad, and a successful youth coach, Gary Batley, took over for the campaign, but a very young and unsettled side saw a disastrous season end with the Colls rock bottom of the NCEL First Division saw improvements on the field as the club reached its best ever stage in national competitions, the Second Round Proper of the FA Vase, another Cup Final appearance in the Wilkinson Sword Trophy and a fourth place finish in Division One. Optimism for the campaign soon evaporated, and after a poor start, the club needed to apply for re-election. Battles off the field have dominated recent times and on the field, Collieries continued to struggle, and only avoided relegation on more than one occasion as a consequence of Pyramid restructuring. Things reached rock bottom in when Ponte finished with just 9 points saw a new and enthusiastic Committee appoint new manager, Simon Houghton and after just 4 league games the new team gained the 9 points it won the previous season saw continual improvement from Houghton s players and the side eventually finished the sea-son in fifth place. TODAY S OFFICIALS Peter Henger Karl Bainbridge Wayne Escreet The season ended with the club finishing in fifth position for the third consecutive season. The season was one of consolidation with a clear plan in place for the 2014/15 season and the plan was delivered as they finished as runners up in the NCEL Division 1 and achieved promotion to the NCEL Premier League after an absence of fifteen seasons. After relegation back to Division 1, the 2016 close season has seen many changes in players and staff behind the scenes, with emphasis on the clubs infrastructure being paramount. 4 #UpTheTown #UpTheTown 21

5 Ollerton Town FC History Ollerton has a long history of local football going back to the late 1800s. One of its best periods was immediately before the Second World War when Ollerton Colliery won the Notts Senior Cup in 1937/38 and itsreserve team won the Notts Intermediate Cup the year previous. Ollerton Colliery ceased as a football club in the early 1980s but was reformed in 1988 as Ollerton and Bevercotes Miners Welfare and began life in the Mansfield Bitter League before progressing to the Notts Football Alliance in 1991.The club won the Nottinghamshire Football Alliance Division Two championship in , gaining promotion to Division One under the management of Adge Owen and David Kent. Following the closure of the colliery in 1994, the club changed its name to Ollerton Town F.C. In the same year, Ollerton were champions of Division One in and were promoted to the top division of the Notts Alliance. After finishing runners-up in , the club was promoted to the Central Midlands League and entered the English Football Pyramid. The club has two ways in which you could potentially win money, whilst also helping to raise funds for the club. Firstly, we run a supporters draw, or 100 club. This is 10 a month to join and there are four cash winners every month. The amount of prize money depends on how many people take part, and the pot is divided 50/50 between the club and the four winners. For more information, or to join the draw, please speak to Vice-Chairman Michael Gibson. Secondly, the club runs a tote. This is 1 a week to join, and entrants are asked to pick three numbers. The lucky winner can potentially win up to 1000! For more information, or to join the tote, please speak to Chairman John Thompson. All of the money raised from the supporters draw and tote goes into the running of our men s and ladies team as well as our two junior teams. In the season, Ollerton, under the management of Don Gethfield, David Kent and Anthony Thompson, the club won the Central Midlands Premier Division, earning promotion to the Supreme Division. That season they also reached the Nottinghamshire Senior Cup final where they were beaten 2 0 by Eastwood Town. In , the club took part in the FA Vase for the very first time, getting to the second round proper in After the resignation of Don Gethfield back in 2011, and a brief stint under Paul Rawden, the club appointed Dave Winter and Stephen Bodle as first team managers. The pair guided the club to a 7th placed finish and the Central Midlands Floodlit Cup final in their first season. For the season, the club was placed in the Central Midlands North Division following a league restructure. Ollerton spent a few seasons in the middle echelons of the league before in the season, with former-captain Jamie Allan now also on board as first team coach, the club secured promotion to the Northern Counties East League after finishing runners-up in the Central Midlands North Division. This is the first time the club will play at the step 6 level of the English football pyramid. 18 #UpTheTown

7 Toolstation Northern Counties East League Review Ten Toolstation NCEL sides booked their place in the Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup at the weekend whilst new boys Campion were one of six teams to taste victory on the opening day of the Division One campaign on Saturday. The biggest winners in the cup were AFC Mansfield who, thanks to a Ryan Williams brace following goals from Oliver Fearon and James Ghaichem, beat hosts Shepshed Dynamo, 4-0. Handsworth Parramore and Cleethorpes Town were the other victors on their travels with Thomas Dugdale and Jon Froggatt netting for Handsworth in a 2-0 triumph at fellow NCEL side Armthorpe Welfare. Cleethorpes defeated league rivals Rainworth Miners Welfare, 3-1, coming from behind after Aaron Moxam had given the hosts a 26th minute lead with strikes from Alexander Flett, Caine Winfarrah and Andrew Taylor. In the other all-ncel clashes, Division one side Brigg Town won 2-1 at home to Premier Division Clipstone, Paul Grimes with an injury-time winner to send them through to the next stage. A Steve Woolley double helped Worksop Town to a 4-2 defeat of visitors Hallam with Kyle Jordan and Adam Scott securing the win in the last quarter-of-an-hour. And, in Sunday s only match, AFC Emley came from behind to upset Premier Division visitors Athersley Recreation, 2-1, Ruben Jerome and Ashley Flynn scoring late on after Kai Hancock had given the away side a 42nd minute lead. Harry Viggars and Nash Connolly scored early on to claim a 2-1 home win for Hemsworth Miners Welfare over Runcorn Linnets, Parkgate enjoyed an identical scoreline at the expense of Irlam, Alex Lill and Mohammed Hamid with their goals, and two from Christopher Wood saw Pontefract Collieries progress 3-2 at home to Runcorn Town. Martin Pembleton got the only goal of the game as Bottesford Town won 1-0 at home to Radford. Six ties require replays in midweek after 1-1 draws for Bridlington Town at home to Silsden, Albion Sports at NCEL rivals Harrogate Railway Athletic and Retford United against visitors Leicester Road. Pickering Town held hosts Sunderland Ryhope CW to a 2-2 scoreline, Frank Zozo s injury-time penalty snatched Nostell Miners Welfare a 3-3 draw at Maine Road whilst Shirebrook Town were denied at the death at Loughborough University in a thrilling match that ended 4-4. The teams to fall at the Extra Preliminary Round stage were Barton Town Old Boys, Garforth Town, Liversedge, Maltby Main, Penistone Church, Staveley Miners Welfare and Thackley. In Division One, Campion began life in the NCEL with a 5-2 victory at Westella & Willerby whilst Winterton Rangers, Eccleshill United and Worsbrough Bridge Athletic also started their seasons with away wins. A Thomas Fairweather own goal midway through the first half saw Winterton prevail at Dronfield Town, Adam Turner struck twice for Eccleshill as they beat Teversal, 3-1, and stoppage time goals from Lee Garside and Bradley Kerr claimed Worsbrough a 2-1 win at Yorkshire Amateur. The league s other new side Ollerton Town went down 3-2 at Grimsby Borough, Jason Flint s lastgasp penalty giving the hosts all three points after Lewis Bingham and Sam Dockwray scored for the visitors to bring the game back to 2-2. There was also late drama as Hall Road Rangers beat visitors Glasshoughton Welfare by the same scoreline, Scott Phillips getting his second of the afternoon just before the final whistle. The day s other Division One game saw a point each for Rossington Main and Selby Town after a 1-1 draw at Oxford Street. I d like to extend that welcome to all players, management, officials and supporters of Pontefract Collieries. Tuesday evening saw us pick up our first victory at this level, narrowly beating Worsbrough Bridge Athletic 2-1. I wasn t there due to being on holiday, I can confirm though watching the game on Twitter is not much fun, especially that last 30 mins once Worsbrough had pulled a goal back. So success in our first ever NCEL cup game and our reward? A trip to Harrogate Railway on Tuesday evening! That will be a very tough game against a team who has reached the FA Cup 2nd round proper on two occasions in the last 10 years, personally these are the sort of games I want to be involved in, I know Steve and Jamie will echo that and I hope the players and club share those sentiments. Our visitors today Pontefract tasted defeat for the first time this season on Tuesday evening also in the NCEL cup, losing at AFC Emley on penalties, so I m expecting a Pontefract team going all guns blazing today as they start their league campaign after last weekend s FA Cup victory and I m sure Pontefract s goal this season will be to secure an immediate return to the Premier Division. I m hoping that Tuesday s win will give us confidence going into today, we were unlucky not to get anything last Saturday and its imperative that we get points on the board quickly to help us on the way to our targets for the season. We will welcome back a couple of players who missed the game the on Tuesday but will also be without Kyle Ludlow now for a couple of weeks due to a holiday which isn t ideal but it s one of the reasons we have to try and keep a big squad happy. We don t have a reserves or an under 21 s at the minute so keeping everybody happy will certainly be one of the toughest jobs this season. I just hope the lads think back to last season when despite lots of lads signed on there was still the odd game when we struggled to fill the bench. I hope you all enjoy the game and a safe journey home. Yours in football, Dave Winter
8 1) Name? Sam Stretton 2) Team you support? Spurs 3) Footballing hero? David Beckham 4) Favourite pair of football boots? Don t really rate too many boots these days but Preds back in the day. 5) Do you have a pre-match routine? Strapping up my chocolate ankle is about as exciting as my pre match routine gets. 6) Describe yourself as a footballer/manager in one word: Goalscorer 7) Biggest achievement in football so far? Winning the National Cup with the Bassetlaw District lads back in the day is definitely my favourite footballing memory. Cracking set of lads. However, last season down here was class though I have to say as well, Bowring s goal was a standout moment away at Harworth in a very important game. 8) Messi or Ronaldo? Ronaldo 9) Best player you ve ever played with? Played with a lad at Uni, Christian Burgess, who plays for Pompey now so probably have to say him. He oozed class. 10) Worst banter in the changing room? Without Burge about at the minute it s a tough one but young Cam comes out with some rubbish. 11) Worst sense in fashion? Again without Burge about it s a tough one. Tobin backs himself but those fishing pants he turned up in during pre season means he s got some serious making up to do for me because they were minging. 12) Worst trainer at the club? Dockwray got beat by Simon Smith in the runs during pre season which I am sure he will look back on as a low point in his life. Bodle as an actual trainer is a bit suspect too but we will leave that there... Liam s Report Ollerton Town won their first ever game at Step Six of the football pyramid on Wednesday night, after a 2-1 win over Worsbrough Bridge in the NCEL League Cup. It was the perfect response by Ollerton who were left disappointed after a 92nd minute penalty meant they lost Saturday s opening league game v Grimsby Borough. The game itself, despite its historical importance to the club, won t live long in the memory as it became very scrappy at times, with Ollerton having to hold on for the win after Worsbrough placed them under severe pressure late on. The opening ten minutes of the game proved to be eventful for the home side. Goalkeeper Gavin Saxby was forced off with an injury but thankfully Ollerton had Simon Smith on the bench to come on and replace him. Within seconds of Smith taking to the field, Ollerton also took the lead. Lewis Bingham, who scored Ollerton s first ever goal in the NCEL on Saturday, kept us his good form, latching onto a through ball before bending a shot past Jon Davies and into the top corner. Lee Garside had a good opportunity to get Worsbrough back into the game, but when he was played through, Smith was quickest to react and he smothered the ball. Josh Dodd and Sam Dockwray both saw efforts easily saved by Davies whilst Mitch Wilshere and Alex Jones both fired well over as Worsbrough went into the half time break one- nil down. After scoring their first goal ten minutes into the first half, Ollerton then repeated the trick as they doubled their lead ten minutes after the restart, and what a goal it was too. Bingham brilliantly controlled a Smith goal kick, and after he passed across to Josh Bowkett, the 19 year old beat three defenders before firing a rocket into the bottom corner to leave Davies helpless and score his first goal for Ollerton. A second goal put Ollerton into a more comfortable position, but they soon saw that slip away as Worsbrough halved the deficit, Garside scoring with a low shot from inside the area. The rest of the game became somewhat of a battle but the best chance probably fell to Ollerton after the best move of the half. Good inter- play between Bingham and Dockwray put Bowkett through on the right side of the area, but after he pulled the ball back to Dockwray, Worsbrough got enough men back to clear the ball off the line. In the end, Bowkett s goal was enough to give Ollerton what was probably a deserved win in front of a bumper crowd of around 100. The win secures Ollerton an away trip to Harrogate Railway in the second round, next Tuesday, in what will be a very tough tie. #UPTHETOWN 10 15
