The KoolSport side, who currently play at Bridlington Town's Queensgate Stadium, had been hoping to return to the town and play at the former Scarborough FC's ground in the near future. But, vandalism and arson at the Athletic Ground since it became unused in Summer 2007 have meant that the costs to repair it have skyrocketed. A report that will be considered by Scarborough Borough Council's cabinet on January 20th says that the cost of safe repairs are estimated at up to 600,000. So, it recommends that renovating the stadium should not be considered a viable option for the immediate future of football in Scarborough. More optimistically, the council are looking at starting a consultation process in the near future to establish the longterm needs of the town in terms of leisure facilities. Scarborough Athletic chairman Simon Cope said: "While we are obviously disappointed that there won't be a return to Scarborough in the immediate future, it is more important that the focus is on the provision of a sustainable facility that can be used by as many community groups as possible. Reid, who is a right-sided defender or winger, becomes the third from his family to join the club this season. His father Jimmy is reserve team manager and brother Arran is the first-team's current first-choice goalkeeper. Rangers To Replay Senior Cup Tie (Source: Hall Road Rangers) Hall Road Rangers have been ordered to replay their East Riding Senior Cup tie against Hessle Rangers. The KoolSport side won 8-2 when the two sides met at Dene Park on the 19th of November. But, the result has been declared null and void after it was found that Hall Road had fielded an ineligible player. The game will now be replayed at Dene Park on the 21st of January. Dinno Bolster Management Team (Source: Dinnington Town) KoolSport side Dinnington Town have announced their new assistant manager and physio. "We look forward to participating fully in the consultation process to ensure that any proposed new facility meets the needs of Scarborough Athletic FC." Meanwhile, the Seadogs have made two new signings as they push for promotion. Former Whitby Town defender Danny Farthing and Tom Reid, from side Selby Town, joined at the start of the month. Farthing signed for Whitby from Goole AFC in the summer of 2004 and was voted the players', supporters' and website player of the year in his first season. However, he missed most of last season with a serious cruciate ligament injury. Mark Lewis, who will be alongside boss Steve Toyne, has been with the club a number of years working as assistant to Mark Ramsden on their high-flying County Senior team. Lewis, who is a much respected member of Sheffield Wednesday's coaching academy, will bring a touch of professionalism to the coaching regime and bring stability to match-day preparation. Meanwhile, John Newell is the new physio who has a wealth of experience in football, as first a player and manager and then fifteen years in his new behind-the-scenes role. His first appointment was with Blackwell Miners Welfare, he had a couple of seasons at Dunkirk and, of late, he has been with Sutton Town AFC. He had offers from a number of clubs but he decided to join Town with the enticement of the NCEL whetting his appetite. 2 KoolSport Northern Counties East League 2008/09 Newsletter - Issue 12-19th January, 2009 Barton Town Old Boys / / tba 20/01 28/03 14/02 11/ Bottesford Town 21/ /03 04/04 18/ / / / Brighouse Town / /04 03/03 21/02 18/ /04 14/ / Glasshoughton Welfare 07/ / / / / / Grimsby Borough 11/ / /03 28/02 14/03 tba / /04 11/03 25/ /03 25/04 21/01 Hemsworth Miners Welfare / / / / /01 Leeds Carnegie /03 23/ / /02 21/02 19/ / /02 Pontefract Collieries /01 17/ /02 04/04 28/ / Rainworth Miners Welfare /01 21/ /02 14/03 28/ /04 28/02 25/ /02 Rossington Main 07/ / / / / Scarborough Athletic /02 10/02 31/ / / /03 28/03 Staveley Miners Welfare /03 04/04 31/ / /02 21/02 Tadcaster Albion /02 21/ / / /04 24/01 10/ /02 Teversal / /03 14/ /02 07/03 Worsbrough Bridge Ath 21/03 03/ / /02 10/02 24/01 07/03 18/04 31/ / Yorkshire Amateur 04/ /03 18/04 31/01 24/ / / KoolSport Northern Counties East League 2008/09 Newsletter - Issue 12-19th January,

The Eagles are now two points behind Mickleover Sports after a 1-1 draw in their home match with Brodsworth Welfare that was played at Radford FC. But, in what was the only match to beat the sub-zero temperatures on Saturday, they had to show great determination to get that point after their goalkeeper was sent off in the first twenty seconds. Lee Broster was adjudged to have handled the ball outside of his area and seventeenth-placed Brodsworth then took advantage by breaking the deadlock through Stuart Slack on 20 minutes. And, they looked to be heading for their second win on their travels until Brett Adams levelled with just ten minutes remaining to preserve Arnold's unbeaten 'home' record. NCEL Match Review #43-16th January, 2009 Three KoolSport sides made it through to the last sixteen of the NCEL League Cup in the first midweek matches to be played in League leaders Mickleover Sports comfortably beat visitors Parkgate 4-1 to progress with first half goals from Karl LATEST NCEL TRANSFERS 100 Tom Reid 04/01/09 (from Selby Town to Scarborough Athletic) 101 Jacob White 08/01/09 (from Selby Town to Hemsworth Miners Welfare) 102 Ryan Hibbard 08/01/09 (from Barton Town Old Boys to Appleby Frodingham) 103 Jamie Heard 10/01/09 (from Hall Road Rangers to Bridlington Town) 104 Liam Cattermole 10/01/09 (from Bridlington Town to Bottesford Town) 105 Daniel Payne 10/01/09 (from Staveley Miners Welfare to Parkgate) 106 Ashley Hunter 12/01/09 (from Armthorpe Welfare to Askern Villa) 107 Richard Lopes 13/01/09 (from Parkgate to Staveley Miners Welfare) 108 Dean Wilburn 16/01/09 (from Selby Town to Askern Villa) 109 Glen Shelley 16/01/09 (from Glasshoughton Welfare to Brodsworth Welfare) Ashton and Ricky Law added to after the break by a second from Ashton. Mark Caine pulled one back for the away side on 70 minutes before Dave Middleditch regained the three goal lead for his side. The win has booked a home tie with Hemsworth Miners Welfare next week. A double, one in each half, from Chris Coy saw Thackley go through 2-1 at home at the expense of Eccleshill United and they now go to Hallam. And, Hall Road Rangers put Division One hosts Worsbrough Bridge Athletic to the sword as a Paul Palmer hat-trick helped them to a 6-1 victory. They were four-up by the interval with David Ingram and Martin Thacker scoring before Palmer hit twice. He then got his third and Hall Road's fifth in the opening minute of the second half. Luke Forgione gave the hosts something just before the hour mark but Jamie Barnwell made sure Rangers had the final word with his goal on 65 minutes. Hall Road are now at home to Pontefract Collieries in the Third Round who, themselves, were in Cup action but it needed a last gasp winner to see them progress in the Wilkinson Sword Trophy. Craig Rouse struck in the final seconds to snatch a 1-0 victory at Yorkshire Amateur and book a home tie against Rainworth Miners Welfare in the Semi-Finals. In League action, both Selby Town and Bridlington Town narrowed the gap on leaders Mickleover with convincing 3-0 victories. Selby stay fourth but are now only three points away from the top after a Gary Hibbert own goal and strikes from Leigh Wood and Brenton Leister saw them triumph at Maltby Main. Bridlington climb into fifth, a further four points behind, as Gareth Slater, Craig Palmer and Damian Fearn made sure of their victory at home to Liversedge. Dinnington Town stay in seventh but have made it a five point gap between themselves and eighth-placed Hallam as they beat the Sandygate side on their own patch. 4 MATCH REVIEW For all the latest match reviews throughout the season, go to For all the latest Division One statistics, go to DIVISION ONE Gavin Allott gave them the lead on seven minutes and that's how it stayed until the hour mark when Louis Axcell got their second and Liam Cartledge made it three on 65. James Tevendale pulled one back with eleven minutes remaining but Allott made sure of the win on 87 minutes before a late second for the home side through David Knaggs. Nostell Miners Welfare move out of the bottom five with a 3-1 win at home to Brodsworth Welfare who are now two places below them in seventeenth but ten points behind. The visitors had taken the lead through Stuart Slack but Matthew Denton quickly equalised before Scott Hartley and Dave Watts made sure of the win in the second period. In Division One, an Alex Smith penalty twelve minutes from time saw Leeds Carnegie claim a 2-1 win at home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare. The hosts came from behind after Scott Collins had put Welfare ahead on 21 minutes, Matt Chiltern grabbing the equaliser early in the second period. Carnegie remain in eighth and stay ten points clear of the two teams below them, Bottesford Town and Staveley Miners Welfare, who were both winners in midweek. Staveley won a thriller at Appleby Frodingham with six of the seven goals coming in the first period. Ryan Damms had opened the scoring for the visitors on six minutes before a Lee Everitt penalty levelled matters on 12. The home side then scored twice in as many minutes halfway through the first period to give them a 3-1 lead, Michael Bettney and Ryan Hibbard with the goals. But, in the three minutes before the interval, Staveley got themselves level through Jamie Smith and a Lee Gregory spot kick. It wasn't so dramatic after the break but it was the visitors who came away happy as Smith's 65th-minute strike made sure they took home a 4-3 win. Bottesford, meanwhile, had a more straightforward evening at bottom side Glasshoughton Welfare. Edwin Turay and John Baross had them two-up by the halfhour before a Michael Amos penalty on 34 minutes gave the home side some hope of picking up their first win of the season at Leeds Road. But, Baross struck again before half-time and Paul Wilson added a fourth on 89 minutes to ensure that Welfare stay at the foot of the table. And, things look increasingly bleak for Glasshoughton who are now fourteen points adrift having played seven more games than their nearest rivals, Grimsby Borough. That's after Borough won 2-0 at home to Tadcaster Albion with a goal in each half from Ricky Forrest and Richard Creer. NCEL Match Review #44-18th January, 2009 The KoolSport NCEL's interest in the FA Vase has ended after Scarborough Athletic were edged out by Bideford. Over 200 fans made the six-and-a-half hour trip to North Devon to watch their side narrowly miss out at their Western Football League hosts. But, they can be proud of their team's performance and by getting to the Fourth Round of the competition in their debut season. Nick Barker's first-half injury-time strike was all that separated the sides, leaving the Seadogs to now concentrate on their Division One promotion push. Mickleover Sports remain the Premier Division leaders after a 1-0 victory at home to Arnold Town. The visitors, who fall to fourth following that defeat, would have gone top had they been victorious. Selby Town move up to second, three points behind Sports, following their narrow win over Liversedge at the Selby Times Stadium. Chris Kamara scored the only goal of the game on 32 minutes to move above Arnold and Pickering Town who drew 1-1 at home to Nostell Miners Welfare. The Pikes had to come from behind when Dave Watts opened the scoring on the hour mark, Luke Ibbetson getting the equaliser soon after. Bridlington Town cemented their promotion charge by coming from 2-0 down to win at Lincoln Moorlands Railway. 4 KoolSport Northern Counties East League 2008/09 Newsletter - Issue 12-19th January, 2009 League Table Home Away as at 17/01/09 P W D L F A W D L F A Pts +/- 1 Scarborough Athletic Askern Villa Pontefract Collieries AFC Emley Rainworth Miners Welfare Hemsworth Miners Welfare Barton Town Old Boys Leeds Carnegie Bottesford Town Staveley Miners Welfare Tadcaster Albion Brighouse Town Teversal Yorkshire Amateur Worsbrough Bridge Athletic Appleby Frodingham Rossington Main Grimsby Borough Glasshoughton Welfare Top Scorers Team Gls L C 1 Ryan Blott Scarborough Athletic Damion Liddle Hemsworth Miners W Phil Jackman Bottesford Town Gareth Barlow Barton Town Old Boys Lee Holmes Rossington Main Lee Garside Worsbrough Bridge Ath Steven Kenworthy AFC Emley Biggest Home Win 23/08/08 Teversal 8-1 Glasshoughton Welfare 14/10/08 Scarborough Athletic 7-0 Tadcaster Albion Biggest Away Win 23/08/08 Rossington Main 0-6 Leeds Met Carnegie 30/08/08 Teversal 0-6 Askern Villa 18/10/08 Appleby Frodingham 0-6 Leeds Carnegie Biggest Aggregate Score 23/08/08 Teversal 8-1 Glasshoughton Welfare 03/01/09 Teversal 4-5 Tadcaster Albion Best Attack Gms Gls Avg 1 Scarborough Athletic Leeds Carnegie Bottesford Town Rainworth Miners Welfare Pontefract Collieries Best Defence Gms Gls Avg 1 Scarborough Athletic Askern Villa Rainworth Miners Welfare Hemsworth Miners Welfare AFC Emley Matches Played: 202 Home Wins: 82 Draws: 35 Away Wins: 85 Goals: 719 (Per Match: 3.56) Home Goals: 372 Away Goals: 347 Time Of Goals Most Frequent Scoreline Club Attendances Max Min Avg +/-%* 1 Scarborough Athletic % 2 Hemsworth Miners Welfare AFC Emley % 4 Brighouse Town Rainworth Miners Welfare % 6 Barton Town Old Boys % 7 Askern Villa Glasshoughton Welfare % 9 Rossington Main % 10 Teversal % 11 Staveley Miners Welfare % 12 Leeds Carnegie % 13 Pontefract Collieries % 14 Bottesford Town % 15 Worsbrough Bridge Athletic % 16 Yorkshire Amateur % 17 Tadcaster Albion % 18 Appleby Frodingham Grimsby Borough Overall % * = Percentage change of average attendance from previous season Highest Attended Matches 03/01/09 Scarborough Athletic 1-0 Rainworth Miners Welf /12/08 Scarborough Athletic 6-1 Barton Town Old Boys /11/08 Scarborough Athletic 6-0 Teversal /10/08 Scarborough Athletic 2-2 Staveley Miners Welf /11/08 AFC Emley 1-6 Scarborough Athletic /08/08 Scarborough Athletic 2-2 Askern Villa /08/08 Scarborough Athletic 4-0 AFC Emley /10/08 Scarborough Athletic 7-0 Tadcaster Albion /08/08 Scarborough Athletic 5-0 Grimsby Borough 440 KoolSport Northern Counties East League 2008/09 Newsletter - Issue 12-19th January,

But, Jamie Heard and Craig Palmer had the Seasiders level by the break and Phil Harrison added a third on 58 minutes before Frank Belt's 63rd-minute penalty made sure of the win. Bridlington are now undefeated in eight matches and have only been beaten once on their travels in the Premier Division. Gaols from Liam Cartledge and Michael Blythen helped Dinnington Town to a 2-0 win at home to Winterton Rangers, a victory that moves Steve Toyne's side up to sixth. And, Thackley climb to eighth as they were victorious by the same scoreline at Hall Road Rangers. Chris Coy scored just after the hour mark before Joel Birks sealed the points nine minutes from time. Maltby Main move up into the top half of the table after a they beat their visitors, Brodsworth Welfare, 3-1. Andy Sanderson had put Welfare, who stay seventeenth, ahead on 29 minutes before Main took control in the second period. Richard Tracey levelled on 56 minutes and was then fouled in the penalty area ten minutes later. Gary Hibbert tucked away the spot kick and Tracey got his second and Maltby's third on 75. And, a Liam Hardy brace gave Armthorpe Welfare the best start possible in a 3-1 win at Shirebrook Town. He struck twice in the opening sixteen minutes before Lee Naughton gave the home side some hope late on. But, that was snuffed out by Bruno Holden who got Welfare's third with two minutes remaining. With runaway Division One leaders Scarborough Athletic in FA Vase action, it was a perfect day for those chasing them to gain some ground. But, only one of the six sides immediately below the Seadogs won, Askern Villa who were 1-0 winners at fellow promotion chasers, Barton Town Old Boys. Daniel Ferguson struck the vital goal on 75 minutes to move Villa within six points of Scarborough but they have played three games more. Third-placed Pontefract Collieries are a further six points behind after a 3-1 loss at home by Tadcaster Albion. Michael Long had put the Colls ahead on 36 minutes but Paul James, Andy Sunley and Chris Harkin turned the game on its head in the second half. Fourth-placed AFC Emley fell victim to a Wayne Crossley hat-trick in a 4-2 home defeat at the hands of Brighouse Town, who move up to twelfth. Tony Nicholson scored in the opening seconds for Brighouse before Steven Kenworthy levelled on 22 minutes. Crossley opened his account and regained the lead for Brighouse in the fourth minute of first-half injury time. Paul Quinn had seemingly rescued a point for the hosts as he made it 2-2 on 75 minutes but Crossley struck twice more in the last ten minutes to earn the win. Rainworth Miners Welfare move up to fifth with a 1-1 draw at Appleby Frodingham as Phil Bignall's 39th-minute goal cancelled out Caine Mawer's early opener. They go above Hemsworth Miners Welfare who took the lead in the third minute at Teversal through Damion Liddle but went down 2-1. Bottesford Town won 3-2 at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic whilst Yorkshire Amateur beat bottom side Glasshoughton Welfare, 2-1, at Bracken Edge.
