5 Ollerton Town FC History Ollerton has a long history of local football going back to the late 1800s. One of its best periods was immediately before the Second World War when Ollerton Colliery won the Notts Senior Cup in 1937/38 and itsreserve team won the Notts Intermediate Cup the year previous. Ollerton Colliery ceased as a football club in the early 1980s but was reformed in 1988 as Ollerton and Bevercotes Miners Welfare and began life in the Mansfield Bitter League before progressing to the Notts Football Alliance in 1991.The club won the Nottinghamshire Football Alliance Division Two championship in , gaining promotion to Division One under the management of Adge Owen and David Kent. Following the closure of the colliery in 1994, the club changed its name to Ollerton Town F.C. In the same year, Ollerton were champions of Division One in and were promoted to the top division of the Notts Alliance. After finishing runners-up in , the club was promoted to the Central Midlands League and entered the English Football Pyramid. The club has two ways in which you could potentially win money, whilst also helping to raise funds for the club. Firstly, we run a supporters draw, or 100 club. This is 10 a month to join and there are four cash winners every month. The amount of prize money depends on how many people take part, and the pot is divided 50/50 between the club and the four winners. For more information, or to join the draw, please speak to Vice-Chairman Michael Gibson. Secondly, the club runs a tote. This is 1 a week to join, and entrants are asked to pick three numbers. The lucky winner can potentially win up to 1000! For more information, or to join the tote, please speak to Chairman John Thompson. All of the money raised from the supporters draw and tote goes into the running of our men s and ladies team as well as our two junior teams. In the season, Ollerton, under the management of Don Gethfield, David Kent and Anthony Thompson, the club won the Central Midlands Premier Division, earning promotion to the Supreme Division. That season they also reached the Nottinghamshire Senior Cup final where they were beaten 2 0 by Eastwood Town. In , the club took part in the FA Vase for the very first time, getting to the second round proper in After the resignation of Don Gethfield back in 2011, and a brief stint under Paul Rawden, the club appointed Dave Winter and Stephen Bodle as first team managers. The pair guided the club to a 7th placed finish and the Central Midlands Floodlit Cup final in their first season. For the season, the club was placed in the Central Midlands North Division following a league restructure. Ollerton spent a few seasons in the middle echelons of the league before in the season, with former-captain Jamie Allan now also on board as first team coach, the club secured promotion to the Northern Counties East League after finishing runners-up in the Central Midlands North Division. This is the first time the club will play at the step 6 level of the English football pyramid. 18 #UpTheTown

7 Toolstation Northern Counties East League Review Ten Toolstation NCEL sides booked their place in the Preliminary Round of the Emirates FA Cup at the weekend whilst new boys Campion were one of six teams to taste victory on the opening day of the Division One campaign on Saturday. The biggest winners in the cup were AFC Mansfield who, thanks to a Ryan Williams brace following goals from Oliver Fearon and James Ghaichem, beat hosts Shepshed Dynamo, 4-0. Handsworth Parramore and Cleethorpes Town were the other victors on their travels with Thomas Dugdale and Jon Froggatt netting for Handsworth in a 2-0 triumph at fellow NCEL side Armthorpe Welfare. Cleethorpes defeated league rivals Rainworth Miners Welfare, 3-1, coming from behind after Aaron Moxam had given the hosts a 26th minute lead with strikes from Alexander Flett, Caine Winfarrah and Andrew Taylor. In the other all-ncel clashes, Division one side Brigg Town won 2-1 at home to Premier Division Clipstone, Paul Grimes with an injury-time winner to send them through to the next stage. A Steve Woolley double helped Worksop Town to a 4-2 defeat of visitors Hallam with Kyle Jordan and Adam Scott securing the win in the last quarter-of-an-hour. And, in Sunday s only match, AFC Emley came from behind to upset Premier Division visitors Athersley Recreation, 2-1, Ruben Jerome and Ashley Flynn scoring late on after Kai Hancock had given the away side a 42nd minute lead. Harry Viggars and Nash Connolly scored early on to claim a 2-1 home win for Hemsworth Miners Welfare over Runcorn Linnets, Parkgate enjoyed an identical scoreline at the expense of Irlam, Alex Lill and Mohammed Hamid with their goals, and two from Christopher Wood saw Pontefract Collieries progress 3-2 at home to Runcorn Town. Martin Pembleton got the only goal of the game as Bottesford Town won 1-0 at home to Radford. Six ties require replays in midweek after 1-1 draws for Bridlington Town at home to Silsden, Albion Sports at NCEL rivals Harrogate Railway Athletic and Retford United against visitors Leicester Road. Pickering Town held hosts Sunderland Ryhope CW to a 2-2 scoreline, Frank Zozo s injury-time penalty snatched Nostell Miners Welfare a 3-3 draw at Maine Road whilst Shirebrook Town were denied at the death at Loughborough University in a thrilling match that ended 4-4. The teams to fall at the Extra Preliminary Round stage were Barton Town Old Boys, Garforth Town, Liversedge, Maltby Main, Penistone Church, Staveley Miners Welfare and Thackley. In Division One, Campion began life in the NCEL with a 5-2 victory at Westella & Willerby whilst Winterton Rangers, Eccleshill United and Worsbrough Bridge Athletic also started their seasons with away wins. A Thomas Fairweather own goal midway through the first half saw Winterton prevail at Dronfield Town, Adam Turner struck twice for Eccleshill as they beat Teversal, 3-1, and stoppage time goals from Lee Garside and Bradley Kerr claimed Worsbrough a 2-1 win at Yorkshire Amateur. The league s other new side Ollerton Town went down 3-2 at Grimsby Borough, Jason Flint s lastgasp penalty giving the hosts all three points after Lewis Bingham and Sam Dockwray scored for the visitors to bring the game back to 2-2. There was also late drama as Hall Road Rangers beat visitors Glasshoughton Welfare by the same scoreline, Scott Phillips getting his second of the afternoon just before the final whistle. The day s other Division One game saw a point each for Rossington Main and Selby Town after a 1-1 draw at Oxford Street. I d like to extend that welcome to all players, management, officials and supporters of Worsbrough Bridge Athletic. I m expecting a tough game tonight against a Worsbrough team that will be buzzing after their opening weekend win away from home against Yorkshire Amateur, especially as they scored two goals in the last minute to claim a 2-1 victory. Saturday saw us travel to Grimsby Borough for our first ever game in the NCEL. After all the hard work over the summer by management and committee alike we felt we were ready for what we knew was going to be a tough test. Grimsby s league position last season doesn t really reflect the last part of the season when they won several games on the trot. We knew we had to step up our game as a club because game in, game out its going to be a battle to the end and we found that out the hard way on Saturday. I thought we started well and we nearly witnessed something special when Kyle Ludlow produced an amazing effort on goal but unfortunately his effort smashed against the bar. In ten minutes after that we found out those differences people have been telling me about all pre-season, if we don t pick up at a short corner or track runners from midfield then we will be punished and we were 2-0 down and facing an uphill battle especially in the heat. I thought the first half was quite even and could have easily been 3-3. We felt we were losing the battle in midfield and shortly after half time brought on club captain Rob Evans to allow us to push Ben Bowring into midfield. Ben will be very disappointed with himself after mistiming a couple of challenges and picking up a second yellow. We showed great character to get back to 2-2, that s a trait that we are going to need throughout the season without a doubt. I thought we were the better team in the second half, we started to use our full backs more and settled down a bit on the ball. To lose with the last kick of the game was a blow but I m confident we can show that character and very shortly pick up up our first league points of the season. Somebody asked me about targets for the season on Saturday. I feel it s too early to be setting any other targets than retaining our place in the league we have worked so hard to get into but after 10 games we will assess our position then set a realistic target for the season. Tonight s cup game will see the winning team travel to Harrogate Railway in the second round, we had some cracking cup ties down The Lane last season, lets hope for another this evening. I hope you all enjoy the game and a safe journey home. Yours in football, Dave Winter

Answers can be found on Page Credit to Liam s Report Ollerton were narrowly defeated 3-2 by Grimsby Borough on Saturday after conceding a 92nd minute penalty on their Northern Counties East League debut. Grimsby went into half time 2-0 up before Ollerton fought back to 2-2 after a dominant second half performance. The Town saw Ben Bowring dismissed for two bookables which stopped their momentum, and Jason Flint s last minute penalty meant it was a cruel end for Ollerton who will learn a valuable lesson from the game. It was The Town who started the game the brightest and they nearly opened their account for the new season in spectacular style. Last season s top goalscorer, Kyle Ludlow, hit an acrobatic overhead kick from the edge of the area which thumped against the bar after beating Grimsby keeper Scott Drury. Ollerton were holding their own but were punished for a piece of poor defending as Grimsby took the lead on fifteen minutes. Adam Drury delivered a ball in from the left and Will Peers ghosted into the space to head past Saxby. The visitors kept pressing and nearly found an equaliser when Sam Stretton released Lewis Bingham down the left, but Bingham s attempted lob failed to hit the target. Grimsby then doubled their lead to seemingly take control of the game. Will Peers ran across from the right wing and he slipped through James Petronzio, and the Grimsby full back had time and space to slot past Saxby. Before the half was up, Gareth Flint saw an effort saved well by Saxby before Ollerton hit the woodwork for a second time, after Sam Stretton s well-struck strike from distance hit the base of the post. Despite going into the break 2-0 down, Ollerton had put in a decent performance and would ve held some belief that they could still find a way back into the game. Jason Flint fired a good opportunity wide for Grimsby early on in the half, before Ollerton came close to halving the deficit, through the ever-dangerous Lewis Bingham who lifted a chance over Drury but then saw the ball land just wide of the post. Ollerton made two changes, bringing on Rob Evans and Greg Tobin for Bowkett and Dodd and they had the game s next chance. Lewis Bingham fizzed a shot wide of the target from outside the area. Given that he had caused Grimsby s defence problems all game, it was no surprise when Ollerton opened their account through Lewis Bingham. He latched on to a Sam Dockwray through ball and finished well to write his name into the history books, as Ollerton s first ever goalscorer in the NCEL. It had been all Ollerton in the second half and with momentum behind them, there was a real sense of belief that they could complete the comeback. That job however was made a lot more difficult when the referee showed Ben Bowring his marching orders for a second bookable offence. Despite being down to ten men, Ollerton didn t give in and they got their reward thanks to a piece of brilliant individual skill. Sam Dockwray latched onto a loose ball 25 yards out from goal and after jinking past a defender, he hit a stunning lobbed effort with the outside of his foot that found the top of the net. Ollerton s dominance petered off somewhat after Bowring s dismissal but Drury still had to be at his best to keep out a cracking strike by Bingham. Saxby was then called into action to keep out a low effort from Grimsby s Jack Bradbury. Just when it looked like both teams would have to settle for a point, the referee pointed to the spot for a Tobin foul on Bradbury. Grimsby captain Jason Flint stepped up to bobble a penalty past Saxby, with the Ollerton stopper being agonisingly close to getting a hand to it. It was a horrible to end to the game for Ollerton as they deserved to travel back to Walesby Lane with a point. The fact that the Ollerton faithful clapped the players off the pitch though was telling and despite the defeat, there were plenty of positives to take away and a lot to be encouraged about as Ollerton continue their new chapter in the Northern Counties East League. #UPTHETOWN 10 15
