Only five matches, four of them in the League, have been able to go ahead so far this month after heavy snowfall hit the entire NCEL region. And scenes like this one at Rossington Main's Oxford Street ground (right) may have been perfect for Christmas cards, but were not fit for football. And, as the thaw began in the past week, clubs were increasingly having problems with waterlogged and frozen pitches as the snow melted. A full list of the new dates for the past fortnight's postponed matches can be found on the back page of this newsletter. And the League say that, although it's been a tough two weeks, all fixtures have been rescheduled without too much difficulty. A comment from Fixtures Secretary David Morrall about the situation will be put on League's website in due course and will also be included in the next Newsletter. The FA Registrations department have confirmed the ruling which is Rule C4(vi)(C) on Page 109 of the current FA handbook. "During the above meeting, it was also confirmed that only one team will be promoted from the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division in to the UniBond First Division." The Pikes are one of seven teams who have applied for promotion to the UniBond League with the others being Arnold Town, Bridlington Town, Long Eaton United, Mickleover Sports, Selby Town and Thackley. Meanwhile, Pickering's Commercial Manager, Brian Wood, has stepped down from his role at Mill Lane. Additionally, it is similarly covered in the Standard Code of Rules under Qualification of Players 8(P)(iii)(P506). This means that no-one under the age of sixteen can play in the KoolSport NCEL but they become eligible as soon as they reach that age. Pikes Positive After FA Visit (Source: Pickering Town) Pickering Town have been paid a visit by FA Ground Graders as they look to make the move up to the UniBond League. The Pikes, who are currently second in the Premier Division and five points behind leaders Mickleover Sports, had an inspection carried out at their Mill Lane ground last Tuesday. Last season, they were denied a chance to progress as, although they had the required amount of seating, it was situated in two separate stands which was against the regulations. A change in the requirements since then, though, has meant that would not be a problem this time round. Chairman Tony Dunning said: "Following the inspection, a very positive meeting took place with representatives from the club. "Whilst it was pointed out that there are a number of minor alterations to be made and a few jobs to be completed, both parties were confident that the work will be completed by the deadline on the 31st March, Tony Dunning has been quick to pay respect to his work, saying: "I would like to go on record in thanking Brian for his loyal service to Pickering Town CFC during his latest spell on the Management Committee. "It is fair to say that when Brian joined the team, the club's future was looking extremely grim. "He has made a huge contribution with all his hard work and endeavour and he leaves the club in a much healthier state." The new structure of the club's Management Committee will be announced once it has been finalised. Robins Anniversary Plans Continue To Gather Pace (Source: Selby Town) As part of their 90th anniversary celebrations, Selby Town have arranged a friendly against a Selby Select XI. The idea was manager Bob Lyon's who said: "For as long as I can remember, local players, parents and supporters alike have been trying to tell me who should be playing for Selby Town FC and who should not. "This is their opportunity to prove their point. "All local players should be chomping at the bit to take on Selby's senior side and then people can tell me if I was right or wrong!" Ian Jennings, manager of local side Kartiers FC, has been asked to oversee selection of the team and pick Selby's finest from all the local Saturday teams in the area. The Selby Town committee decided on Ian simply because Kartiers are the highest placed local team and he has been 2 KoolSport Northern Counties East League 2008/09 Newsletter - Issue 14-16th February, 2009 Lincoln Moorlands Railway / /04 15/ / / / Liversedge /03 03/ / /03 21/ / /04 Long Eaton United /04 28/ tba / /03 04/ / Maltby Main / / /02 25/ Mickleover Sports / /03 11/ / / tba / Nostell Miners Welfare 21/ / /04 28/ / /03 14/03 11/04 03/03 Parkgate 28/03 10/ / / / / /04 Pickering Town / / / tba 21/02 17/ / Selby Town 10/03 17/ /04 21/ / / /02 14/ Shirebrook Town / / / /03 18/04 04/ Thackley / / / / / /02 07/ Winterton Rangers / / /03 18/ /03 24/03 28/03 14/03 21/02 04/ / Division One AFC APP ASK BAR BOT BRG GLS GRI HEM LEE PON RAI ROS SCA STA TAD TEV WOR YOR AFC Emley /04 28/ / / / Appleby Frodingham 18/04 17/ / / /03 25/ /03 11/04 Askern Villa /03 28/ / /04 Barton Town Old Boys / / /03 17/03 28/03 07/04 11/ Bottesford Town 21/ /03 04/04 18/ / / Brighouse Town / /04 03/03 21/02 18/ /04 14/ Glasshoughton Welfare 11/ / / / / / Grimsby Borough 01/ / /03 28/02 14/03 18/ / /04 11/03 25/ /03 25/ Hemsworth Miners Welfare / / / / /03 Leeds Carnegie /03 23/ / /02 21/02 09/ /04 Pontefract Collieries / /02 04/04 28/ / Rainworth Miners Welfare / /04 14/03 28/ /04 28/02 25/ /03 Rossington Main 07/ / / / Scarborough Athletic / / / /03 28/03 Staveley Miners Welfare /03 04/ / /03 21/02 Tadcaster Albion /03 21/ / / / / /03 Teversal / /03 07/ /02 07/03 Worsbrough Bridge Ath 21/03 03/ / /02 24/03 17/03 07/03 18/ / Yorkshire Amateur 04/ /03 18/ / / / KoolSport Northern Counties East League 2008/09 Newsletter - Issue 14-16th February,

Hopefully everyone can put any differences to one side to play in this one-off game. Selby Town are getting the game sanctioned by the West Riding County FA and providing the insurance cover for all players, plus kits officials etc. at their own expense. The game is to take place at The Selby Times Stadium on Tuesday 3rd March with a 7.45pm kick off, obviously at the current time subject to the state of the pitch. Admission will be 2.50 for adults and 1.50 for season ticket holders, OAPs and children. Meanwhile, the club have been contacted by who they believe to be their oldest surviving ex-player. Ken Green, who is aged 80 and now living in Huntington, York, played for Selby Town in the 1950/51 season as a striker and helped the club finish runner up in the now defunct Yorkshire League. He was transferred to Grimsby Town for a fee unknown and the money helped provide the funds to allow Selby Town to move from "The Bowling Green" down Portholme Road to their current Selby Times Stadium Ground at Flaxley Road. He has some more interesting stories to tell of his time with Selby but he wishes to keep those until the reunion night which is on the 6th of March. If anyone knows of any ex-player older than Ken then the club would like them to get in touch. Day Of Celebration For Wrens (Source: Rainworth Miners Welfare) The official opening of Rainworth Miners Welfare's new changing rooms and seated stand took place this weekend. They were opened by Parish Councillor and Chairman of the Welfare Trust, Mark Butterey, with Veolia Trust board member, Ossie Dodds MBE, and Wrens Chairman, Brian Reece. The ceremony took place on Saturday despite the postponement of their KoolSport clash with Grimsby Borough. Meanwhile, the Wrens have bolstered their strike force as they aim for promotion from KoolSport. They have signed Ant Lynam who was the division's top scorer last season and whose goals helped Dinnington Town make the move up to the Premier Division as champions. He has been playing lower-league football for most of this season but Wrens boss Rudy Funk is hopeful that Lynam can be a similar talisman for his side this time round. Villa Search For Commercial Director (Source: Askern Villa) Askern Villa are seeking to appoint a commercial manager responsible for generating income for this dynamic South Yorkshire Club. Askern Villa were founded in 1924, are located about five miles north of Doncaster and currently lie second in Division One and boast the best away record in both the Premier Division and Division One. The team is renowned for its attractive football and are striving to gain promotion into the Premier Division and beyond. The successful applicant needs to be commercial aware and have excellent business acumen. Terms will be based on experience and knowledge. 4 MATCH REVIEW For all the latest match reviews throughout the season, go to Anything for future newsletters should be ed to MILEAGE GRIDS NCEL Match Review #49-13th February, 2009 Mickleover Sports are through to the Semi-Finals of the Derbyshire Senior Cup as the February fixture list finally got underway on Thursday. Due to the worst winter in almost two decades, it took until the 12th for a game to be played this month and even then a lot of hard work had to be done to make sure the match went ahead. The Quarter-Final tussle with Ilkeston Town had been switched to the UniBond side's ground and, although a new wave of snow threatened to postpone the tie as it came through the area during the evening, the pitch was playable and Sports will be delighted that it was. Their top scorer Karl Ashton continued where he left off before the big freeze by grabbing the opener on the quarter-hour mark before Tom Cahill levelled matters for Ilkeston on 65 minutes. And, as the 75 hardy souls who had come to watch the match were bracing themselves for extra time, Sports snatched the win with an 89th-minute strike from Kieran O'Connell. Mickleover now travel to Buxton in the last four whilst, in the other Semi-Final, Shirebrook Town go to Matlock Town and the possibility of an all-ncel Final is still on. NCEL Match Review #50-15th February, 2009 Four games managed to beat the weather to become the first League matches played in February. Long Eaton United consolidated sixth place in the KoolSport winning 1-0 at home to Winterton Rangers, Alex Steadman grabbing the only goal of the game on six minutes. As one of the seven sides who have applied for promotion to the UniBond League, they may feel they still have a slight chance of going despite being twelve points behind Mickleover Sports as they have a couple of games in hand of the leaders. Maltby Main have moved up to eleventh after they produced a remarkable comeback to claim a 2-2 draw at home to Parkgate. Mark Caine struck twice in five minutes just after the halfhour mark to give the visitors what was a seemingly comfortable cushion going into the last eleven minutes. But, Maltby were not going to be denied as Rob Branagan halved the deficit on 79 minutes before, five minutes later, Neil Longhurst also found the net to share the spoils. There was also late drama at Langwith Road as a last-minute strike from Chris Coy earned Thackley a 2-1 victory at Shirebrook Town. Darryll Leach had put the away side ahead on the hour mark and Shirebrook, who are in the bottom four, looked to be heading for defeat when they levelled the scores. Marc Sherlock grabbed the equaliser on 85 minutes but they could not hold on and Coy struck to give Thackley the win that keeps them eighth but now four points clear of the side below them, Hallam. In the only Division One game played, Scarborough Athletic's seemingly relentless run to the title continued with a 6-0 win at home to Bottesford Town. Rob Ellis started the scoring in the second minute but the Seadogs had to wait until early into the second period before they added to that. David Hartas doubled their lead before four goals in fifteen minutes made sure of the win to move them eleven points clear with games in hand. Daniel Gray grabbed a double whilst the League's top scorer Ryan Blott and Richard Medcalf also found the net in a comfortable victory in front of a crowd of 477 at Queensgate.
