2 Week: 1 Session Dribbling / Gates Session Overview / Theme: Dribbling Training Session for an Intermediate level team. This session is one of a series of progressions utilizing Gate Dribbling Gates Warm Up! All players have a ball in a tight grid Gates are set up by using discs, 2 feet apart (more gates than players) 4 Change of Direction -select from the Players move about randomly dribbling the ball through gates Explode through the gates Up to 4 Moves through the gates - select from the Approach straight on or from the side Players do figure 8s around the gates Players do up to 4 change of directions through gate - select from the Players see how many different gates then can go through in 30 seconds Speed variation occurs through the gate (slow fast)! Gates Race Activity Gates are arranged to create two courses (one for each team) 5-6 gates per course Race through gates at the same time, 1 team with all players back wins Red goes one direction, Blue goes the other Explode through the gates Perform moves through the gates (see curriculum overview for move list) Perform 360 spin through cones Jump for header going through cones Speed variation is the through the gate Gates 1v1 Activity Gates are arranged sideways in front of Pugs Two goals Blue passes to orange and runs to defend him. Orange dribbles to either goal to try to score. Orange must dribble though gates before they shoot Progress to do a move through gate Progress to four goal gate game Perform turns to explode to other goal Explode to goal on first touch Perform moves to explode past defender Focus on one move at a time (this is not a shielding game) Defensive posture back pedal, keep 3- foot distance, shuffle feet, 45 degree Game keep track of goals scored End of the Session Game: If there is time left, 3v3 or 4v4 to small goals with gate in front of goals or four goal game with gates in front of goals.
3 Week: 4 Session Dribbling / Line Session Overview: Dribbling Training Session for an Intermediate level team. This session is a series of progressions utilizing Dribbling with line set up!dribbling Line - Sprinting & Change of Direction Activities! Players are in groups of 2 to 4 Each group has one ball 4 Change of Directions - select from the Warm up is line racing without the ball Ball is added to the center of the running zone for change of directions Players line up facing their ball, run to ball, and pop into the ball dribbling it to the far cone Change of direction at the far cone Dribble back to the halfway point and stop the ball with the sole of your foot. Next person cannot go until they are tagged Variation Starts - head on, back turned, sitting, sitting with back turned, laying down, laying down with back turned Players look around for vision Creative dribble - players use inside and outside or bottom, 360s, rollover, backwards, pattern dribbles Speed dribble - toe down and top of foot hits the ball, shoelaces on the ball, locked ankle Only do up to 4 change of directions per session For list of Change of Direction turns off the dribble, see Curriculum Overview Dribbling Line Moves Activity Players are in groups of 4 (6 max) Each group has one ball Players face each other in groups of 2 or 3 per side Dribble at cone and perform the move the coach calls One you do the move, explode away from the cone, and dribble with speed to the end of the line Each line pushes the ball by the cone to the same side, so nobody runs into each other For full list of moves see Curriculum Overview Speed variation explode off move Start move 3 feet before cone Only do up to 4 moves per session Dribbling Line 1v1 Activity Four lines on each side of goals Defender plays a hard ball on ground to opposite player then makes arching run After goals are scored or defense takes it, play stops and next group goes Players switch lines every turn from offense to defense Two balls go at the same time in opposite direction Perform moves explode past defender Focus on only one move is used at a time (this is not a shielding game) Defensive posture back pedal keeping 3 foot distance, shuffle feet, 45 degree angle Game keep track of goals scored and defensive stops
4 Week: 7 Session Dribbling / Grid Session Overview: Dribbling Training Session for an Intermediate level team. This session is a series of progressions utilizing Dribbling with line set up!dribbling Grid Moves Warm Up! All players have a ball in a tight grid Players move about randomly weaving in and out of each other! Emphasize speed variation slow movement then explode past then explode again Perfectly perform the move as fast as possible At the end incorporate a medley Keep it simple don t do too many at one session Promote the players to memorize the names Players keep your head up - vision Creative dribble - players use inside and outside or bottom, 360s, rollover, backwards, pattern dribbles Inside foot set-up moves for crafty dribbling Shoelace set-up moves for speed dribbling Up to 4 mastered before you move on select from the Grid Fast-footwork Activity! 9 squares 3 deep and 3 wide 4 to 5 players per line facing the grid Balls are placed in each square 4 Fast-footwork - select from the Balls stay put / players move forward Players do seconds of fast footwork, then move up the grid Coach indicates when to move forward Players get a rest in line for seconds after the move through the 3 lines of balls Each line is a different fast-footwork Players to memorize the names Players keep your head up vision Ball of foot touches ball Muscles should be firm and in control (not floppy or stiff) Two speeds basic and double time Ball directly under body On toes (not flat footed) Up to 4 fast-footwork per session - select from the Dribbling Grid 1v1 Activity! 1v1 to small lines 9 squares 3 deep and 3 wide 4 to 5 players per line facing the grid Defenders on the lines, cannot retreat backwards Players only advance forward if they beat the defender If they get stopped they go back to start of that grid After they go through the middle grid, players go to the grid with the least number of players in line (coach dictates) Defensive posture 45 degree angle Game points awarded for getting through one of the 3 grid lines Switch defenders after 2 minutes Focus on only one move is used Reward top point gainers
5 Week: 10 Session Dribbling / Diamond Session Overview: Dribbling Training Session for an Intermediate level. This session is a series of progressions utilizing Dribbling with Diamond set up Diamond Fast-footwork Warm Up All players are in a tight diamond and all have a ball. Players move about randomly but generally stay in same spot. 4 Fast-footwork - select from the Players do the fast-footwork between 3 pendulum touches Perform one move 30 seconds work, 15 seconds rest Evolve to 30 seconds at double time speed Keep it simple don t do too many at one session. Promote memorization of the names Coaching Point Players keep your head up - vision Ball of foot touches ball Muscles should be firm and in control (not floppy or stiff) Two speeds basic and double time Ball directly under body On toes (not flat-footed) Up to 4 moves per session - select from the Dribbling Diamond Moves and Change of Direction Activity! Groups of two - three players on corner Diamond with four cones in middle Moves - select from the appropriate Change of Direction - select from the Dribble to cone do move then go to end of line to right or left Then have players take on cone and then go across square Then have players take on both cones going across square Then have players change of direction and go back to same line Keep it simple don t do too many at one session and get 4 mastered before you move on Players keep you head up - vision Inside foot set up moves for crafty dribbling moves Shoelace set up moves for speed dribbling moves Up to 4 mastered before you move on - select from the Emphasize Speed variation explode past then explode again Promote memorization of the names Dribbling Grid 1v1 Transition Game Activity! 1v1 to small Pugs Large cones on side indicating half field Up to 3 players next to & behind goals 1v1 starts game If ball goes out of bounds on defenders half then or a goal is scored, then defender is out & a new attacker comes into game with a ball at speed. The original defender is out and goes to end of the line; original offensive players stay to defend Players waiting must have a ball ready Out of bounds is sideline or end line Perform moves, explode past defender Focus on only one move is used at a time (this is not a shielding game) Defensive posture back pedal 3 foot distance, shuffle feet, 45 degree angle Promote quick transition from offense to defense when ball goes out or goal. Game keep track of goals per team and per individual.
