Juenile News Number 64 Date January 2017 Respect Charter to be Launched The Aberdeen and District Juenile Football Association will be signing up to the SYFA Respect Charter and all clubs in membership of the association will be asked to get their players, officials and parents and supporters to sign up to the Codes of Conduct. The SYFA in conjunction with Positie Coaching hae deeloped the charter to support leagues and clubs to create the best possible enironment to attract retain and deelop players, coaches, olunteers and referees.. Football should be a positie experience for all the participants players coaches referees and spectators. If players respect the rules, respect their opponents, respect the referees, respect the coaches of both teams and respect the spectators, they in turn desere the respect of their opponents, referees, coaches and spectators. By making football fun we can teach children ery aluable lessons for life. We need to redefine the meaning of winning. Each weekend more than 50% of teams do not win their match. At the end of the season only one team wins the league. Howeer all the players can win by learning how to : be a team player; fit and healthy; be confident; be disciplined; be committed; be resilient; cope with failure and bounce back. They will learn that success comes about through hard work, learning and resilience. You cannot win eery game. Just ask Andy Murray. It is so easy to become blinkered and think only about winning that game on the day. How often do coaches of opposing teams socialize after the game. Een if it just a fie minute discussion at the end of the game to compliment the best player in the opposing team. How often do home teams meet and greet their opponents and referees and show them to their dressing rooms. Without opponents there would be no game. They are just that opponents they are not the enemy. Bill Shankly was just joking when he said football was more important than life or death. RESPECT THE GAME
Transitional Festial For 2005s The Denis Law Legacy Trust in conjunction with the ADJFA and SFA are planning once again to host a Transitional Football Festial for the 2005 age group teams who were making the transition from the Seen a side to 11 a side game. The eent is being planned for the first weekend in June. Last year 19 teams took part in round robin matches so that the teams could let the players experience the full size game without the pressure of worrying about results. All the teams that took part were enthusiastic about the Festial and Graham Morrison of the Aberdeen Sports Village who organised the eent for the Denis Law Trust is speaking about making it an annual eent for the teams making the transition as part of the National Player Pathway PVG Checks All club officials must be PVG checked throiugh the SYFA within 3 months of becoming a registered official with a club. They must first be registered with the club through the SYFA and can woirk with the club proided that they do not hae unsuperised access to any players during this period. A number of clubs hae thought that because an official was a member of the PVG Scheme through the schools or their work then they did not need to be checked ia the SYFA. This is not the case the PVG Regulations reuires the organistaion for which someone works to har them checked. In this situation the official ho is already a member of the for Existing members. ADDITIONAL SIGNATORIES A large number of clubs hae a trained Additional Signatory who can check the documentation for PVG Applications before forwarding them to the SYFA. These Additional Signatoris should also help the smaller clubs if requested. A number of the executie committee are also Additional signatories so clubs can ask for help from these members of the executie. Deelopment Age Group Secretary Unfortunately the adert for a assistant to help with the Deelopment Football Age Groups has had no success. The position will hae to filled otherwise the fixtures etc will hae to reduced. Currently the secretary looks after 152 teams at 11 a side, 160 plus teams at seen a sides and 100 plus teams at Fun fours.
Raymond Kelly Memorial Award Who is the unsung hero of your club? Who keeps you right with affiliations, books pitches and training facilities? Now is the time to recognise them by putting them forward for the Raymond Kelly Memorial Award which is specifically aimed at youth club administrators. Nomination form can be down loaded from the league documents on the Association website. If you made a nomination last season and were unsuccessful make it again. There were a number of outstanding nominations and there is only one award. Tablets for Executie At executie committee meetings the committee hae in excess of fifty pages of eidence to assess. To reduce the amount of paper used and sae the printing costs all members of the executie committee hae been issued with 10 inch Android Tablets. The papers are E Mailed to their tablets thus reducing the carbon footprint of the association Registration Rules and Referees The three R's of competitie football Registration Rules and Referees is the name of the seminar held for teams moing from the Soccer Seens to the full competitie leagues. This seminar has been designed for teams making the transition from none competitie seen a sides to fully competitie 11 a sides It inoles a presentation on the Constitution and the Rules Goerning Completion. It is also the intention to hae a member of the Referee s Association gie a presentation on aspects of the Laws of the Game. All teams making the transition will be expected to hae a representatie attend. The date and enue of the meeting will be circulated in due course. Whilst designed mainly for those teams making the transition it will be open to any club who has a new officials that are not sure of the rules. KNOW THE RULES RESPECT THE RULES Referees to Strike? A young referee from the Manchester FA is calling for grassroots referees to go on strike on the first weekend in March. This call for strike action follows him being punched and spat on on different occasions. He feels that referees are not being respected. Manchester FA in response are looking to isit referees within 24 hours of any such incidents to offer counseling and support. They appreciate the pressures that referees are under and know without referees there would be no games.

The Match Secretary will determine the qualifying teams based on an established formula. CUP TIE RULE Clubs are reminded of the Cup tie Rule whereby a player must hae been registered for a team before the 31 st of March to be able to play in any cup ties after this date. The only exception to this rule is for Goalkeepers and the special dispensation needs to be obtained from the SYFA. Players must also hae be eligible to play in the semi final i.e. registered for the club on the date the semi final was played to be able to play in the final. SYFA Supplementary and Playing Rules Nos 90 and 91. Changes to Accumulated cautions This season has seen the increase in the number of accumulated cautions before a player is suspended. Formerly a player had to hae four cautions before being suspended for two games this has now been increased to six. He will be suspended for four games should he attract another 4 cautions aboe the six. The SYFA will also be looking at the Fixed Penalties for two cautions and denying a goal scoring opportunity. Currently these attract a one game suspension. Other association now do not suspended players for these offences belieing that the player has been punished enough by being sent off.
First Aid Courses If any club is running First aid Courses and there are spare places on it please contact the secretary Neil Paterson who can adertise the places to other club officials. There are a number of local proiders now on the list of SYFA approed trainers and all hae indicated they would be willing to set up courses for clubs. Youth Football Petition in Parliament The Realgrassroots Campaign to get the Scottish Parliament to look at the way professional clubs in Scotland deal with the registration of young players. One area that was highlighted was the question of compensation due to a professional club if a young player decides to go to another professional club. At times this has kept players out of the game. It highlighted the fact that at 15 years old players can be held for two years. The Children Commissioner also had an input and as a result the SYFA reduced the time a club has to release a player after asking for his release. This has been reduced from 28 days to 7 days. #Some clubs may feel this plays in to the hands of unscrupulous clubs that make illegal approaches to players. But unfortunately the rights of the child to make his or her own choice is paramount. Hae you a referee in your club? With the association facing the perennial problem of a shortage of referees to handle our fixtures it is maybe time to be bit more proactie. Hae clubs considered asking some of their players in the 16s, 17s and 19s age groups to consider becoming referees. They can officiate at the younger ages and continue to play. Clubs are always keen to adertise the fact that senior players started their careers with them. It is just as important for the game for clubs to produce future FIFA referees the likes of Morag Pirie who started off officiating at juenile games. Morag still helps our association out on Sundays despite her busy schedule. Mid Week Fixtures These generally start two weeks after the clocks change, The second week of the school Easter holidays.free dates can be requested coering a 7 day period i.e. A Saturday Tuesday and Thursday. You need to gie 12 days notice of a request for a free date. All free dates need to be booked before the 1 st of April so check with your players for school trips etc. Games will be played midweek during the Exam period. Players hae study leae and educationalists say the best thing to reliee the stress of studying is physical exercise.
Update your records Clubs are reminded of their responsibility to ensure that they notify both the ADJFA and SYFA of any change of secretary. They should also ensure that changes in addresses and E Mail accounts should also be notified. If clubs hae not notified of such changes then their correspondence will still be sent to the old address which could result in clubs not responding when asked and incurring further penalties. Changes in the addresses of players should also be notified so that registration details can be updated. RESIGNATIONS It is equally important to resign officials from the SYFA Registration website when they leae your club. There hae been a number of instances whereby a club has been placed under precautionary suspension due to an official who is no longer associated with the club being flagged up as his certification has expired. Goal Post Safety We make no apology for once again raising the issue of mobile goalpost safety. If your club uses these :- Hae they been checked? Do you hae a written Risk Assessment? Has the people that erect them demonstrated their competency? Are there adequate anchor points/ballast weights? Do players know not to play or swing on them? If you are not sure of the answer to any of these questions then find out the answer. Simple checks and systems can sae a life or serious injury. Victories for the 15s and 16s Deelopment Squads The North Region Deelopment Squads at 15s and 16s Age groups recorded wins against their East Region rials. The 16s had a narrow 2-1 margin and the 15s went one better with a 3-1 ictory. Both squads will now trael to Edinburgh to play the South East Region on the 19 th of February. Victory in these matches will see them through to the SYFA Inter Regional Finals which will be played at Toryglen. 14s TRIALS Nominations hae now been collected for the 14s Deelopment Squad and trails will be held shortly. This squad will be managed by Justin Leslie and Graham Mutch. Permits for Friendlies Following one team in the association being fined by the SYFA for playing an unauthorised friendly clubs are reminded of the requirement to get permission before playing a friendly. They should not assume that the opposition has obtained permission for them. Corn Corner Little Jimmy came rushing home from football practice with a beaming smile. His dad asked him what he was so pleased about. Jimmy said The coach said I was the Greatest. His dad asked aht position he was playing. Oh in defence the coach said I was the greatest drawback the team had.
