4 WELCOME TO TH Chairman Dan Groves What a week it has been for all of us here in the Billericay family! I would firstly like to take this opportunity to thank every single person who was here at the AGP Arena on Tuesday to witness and be part of a game that will go down in history with our largest ever crowd of 458! To add to the fairytale, we came away victorious with a score line and we all witnessed some of the best football ever seen here. So once again on behalf of Glenn, Andrew and myself thank you all so much for coming and showing your support and making the night what it was. Today we welcome Kingstonian Directors and Craig Edwards and his team as they make the journey here from Surrey. As we are all more than aware, Craig is no stranger to Billericay and he is also a very close friend of Glenn and mine and I am sure a lot of you will all agree with me when I say that I wouldn t have wanted a better openening match here at the AGP Arena for the start of our Bostik Premier Season. Craig joined Kingstonian at the back end of last season and hit the ground running over in Surrey and saved the K s from relegation and has already become a fans favourite. Kingstonian have made some good signings over the close season including names that we are familiar with like Ricky Sappleton, and today will be a big challenge for us. We all love you Craig but I must say that the only song I want to be hearing from the changing room after the game is coming from the home dressing room and was written by R Kelly and not a song from the away dressing room written by C Edwards! The next few months leading up to Christmas will be big for both us and Kingstonian but I truly believe that we have the quality on the pitch and on the sidelines to keep ourselves at the top of the table. With your backing from the stands united behind the players and the management, I feel that the 7/8 season will bring good things for Billericay Town FC. Enjoy the game. Daniel Groves Chairman 4

5 HE AGP ARENA CoOwner / Share Holder Andrew Cosias I write this after an unbelievable night at the AGP. Thank you to all of the 4,58 people that attended the West Ham XI game, you helped make BTFC history. I also had the pleasure of meeting Harry Parker who is an inspiration to everybody, seeing the stand named in his honour packed to the rafters was a great moment. I also want to thank all the of staff at the club, the ones you see, and those behind the scenes, who have worked tirelessly to get us where we are today. Glenn & I managed to secure the services of three top class players this week. Kevin Foley, Leo Chambers and Jermaine Pennant. These three players will add additional quality to a squad already brimming with talent. This is only the beginning of an incredibly exciting journey and I m humbled to be part of it. focussed on achieving the club s goals and will want to get off to a positive start today. I know that you will get behind the team right from the off. Your support will be invaluable over the coming season. The record number of season tickets sold is testament to your commitment to the club. So, thank you all. Come on you Blues! Andrew Cosias CoOwner/Share Holder Today we welcome Kingstonian FC and their fans to the new AGP Arena for the first league game of what promises to be a sensational season. 6 T O D A Y S O P P O N E N T S KINGSTONIAN The Kingstonian club came into being in 99 as a result of the merger between Kingston Town FC and Old Kingstonians FC. However, the club can trace its origins even further back and celebrated its centenary in 985; the reason for this is that one of its forerunners, Kingston & Surbiton YMCA FC played its first match on a ground in Bushy Park in November 885. In 887 the YMCA changed its name to Saxons FC. Then in 89 it changed to Kingston Wanderers FC and once again to KingstononThames Association Football Club (KAFC) in 89. Unfortunately, in the early 9s there was trouble in the camp and in 98 the club split in two with Kingston Town playing at Norbiton Sports Ground and Old Kingstonians on what became known as the back pitch at Richmond Road. The new Kingstonian setup started life in the Athenian League, a competition that it won in both seasons 9/4 and 95/, playing its home matches at a brand new ground in Richmond Road that remained its home until 988. In 99 the Kingstonians, widely known as the K s, accepted an invitation to join the Isthmian League as a replacement for the Civil Service FC, and remained in that league until 998. The K s have a credible history and their blue ribbon period of the early 9 s produced players such as Frank Macey, Doug Whitehead, George Lee and the Whittaker brothers achieving in April 9 its then greatest accolade by winning the FA Amateur Cup which well and truly put Kingstonian on the football map. Wins over Portland United (after a replay), Leyton, South Bank, Dulwich Hamlet, and Whitehall Printeries took the K s through to the final, staged at Dulwich, against Stockton, which resulted in a draw. For the replay Kingstonian had to travel to Darlington, but despite going one goal behind after only four minutes, the K s came back to win 4 thanks to goals from Gibson, Urpeth (penalty) and Whitehead (). In the following season, 9/4, K s bowed out of the Amateur Cup in a second round replay to Wimbledon at Plough Lane, but went on to successfully win the Isthmian League, a feat they repeated in season 9/7 and, of course in 997/98. In season 959/ it seemed as though the Amateur Cup was going to return to Kingston as the legendary Johnny Whing headed K s into the lead against Hendon in the final at Wembley Stadium. Two goals in the last three minutes, though, had the FA officials busily changing the red and white ribbons for green and white ones as Hendon won the cup for the first time. The Kingstonian teams of the early 9 s were arguably as good as those of the 9 s and many trophies were won. After winning the Surrey Senior cup for the 9th time (as Kingstonian) in 97, the club s successes dried up and despite the endeavours of many managers and countless players, the team went into decline. In 979 relegation to Division One was suffered, but in 985 the club bounced back as runners up to Farnborough Town. K s were a mite fortunate as Leatherhead, who finished above them on goal difference, had three points deducted for fielding an ineligible player. Kingstonian remained as members of the Premier Division until the end of the 997/98 season when promoted to the Nationwide Conference. The famous Richmond Road ground, which was loved by so many, became increasingly dilapidated and subject to vandalism, so a decision was made to relocate and develop the site for housing a move that also assisted the club s finances. The last game played there was in January 988 against Bromley. After one and a half season s ground sharing at Hampton s Beveree ground. K s opened their brand new Kingsmeadow Stadium (on the site of the old Norbiton Sports Ground) in August 989, when Slough Town were the visitors. After achieving a draw with Peterborough United in 99, the club recorded a fine FA Cup win at Kingsmeadow by beating Brighton in 994; they also competed well the following year against Plymouth. In front of,495 supporters the K s held Leyton Orient to a draw only to lose in the FA Cup nd Round Replay in 998. Drawn away to Luton Town in the First Round of the FA Cup in October 999 saw the K s come in at half time only to go down 4 at the end. a draw only to lose in the FA Cup nd Round Replay in 998. Drawn away to Luton Town in the First Round of the FA Cup in October 999 saw the K s come in at half time only to go down 4 at the end. At the beginning of the season, the club appointed Geoff Chapple as manager. He brought about an exciting change of fortune for the club. In his first season, he took the club to the Isthmian League Premier Division Championship. In the following season, their first in the Football Conference, the club finished a creditable 8th, but they capped it all off by winning the FA Trophy at Wembley in May 999 with a victory over Forest Green Rovers. The following season 999/, in the last FA Trophy Final between the fa

7 mous Twin Towers, the K s retained their title with an exciting win over Kettering Town, giving Chapple his 5th FA Trophy Final win in seven seasons (the other three with Woking). However, season / proved to be extremely mixed. The K s made the headlines again with a tremendous run in the FA Cup. A home win against Devizes Town was the start of an incredible run that saw the K s defeat Brentford, Southport and Southend United all away from home. In the Fourth Round, K s were thwarted in the last kick of the game at Ashton Gate as Bristol City scored a very last gasp equaliser before winning the replay at Kingsmeadow in a live televised match. Unfortunately, the club s league form proved to be exactly the opposite, as the K s finished next to bottom and were relegated back to the Ryman Football League. Season / and it was time again for a change, as the club and Geoff Chapple parted by mutual consent. Kingstonian quickly appointed former Dover Athletic man Bill Williams as their new manager, who had working alongside him former Tottenham Hotspur player Steve Sedgley as his assistant. In late Williams departed the club and Sedgley moved up to the position of manager and his assistant was Kim Harris who was promoted up from the position of reserve team manager. December saw the sudden resignation of the highly promising Sedgley as manager. The club immediately promoted Harris, a former K s striker, to manager and appointed former Woking man Scott Steele as player/coach. The club had ups and downs over this period but only failed to make the new Conference South following a single goal defeat to Lewes in a Ryman League playoff. Following a poor start to season 4/5 Harris decided to call it a day after just four games. Scott Steele was promoted to manager but, despite encouraging good football from his side, was unable to prevent what became an inevitable relegation to Division One. However, good news arrived off the field when local businessman Jimmy Cochrane bought the football club, giving the club a positive outlook for the first time in several years. Steele s resignation followed towards the end of the season when former assistant manger Ian McDonald was brought in along with Stuart McIntyre as his coach with a view to resurrecting the club s fortunes. The 5/ season saw K s move up the table only to miss out on playoffs on the final day of the season, though silverware was achieved following a win over AFC Wimbledon in the Surrey Senior Cup Final. McDonald was almost immediately succeeded by McIntyre as manager, whilst the club was jointly bought by Mark Anderson and Malcolm Winwright the board would be completed by the presence of John Fenwick as chairman from May to June 4 and then cochairman with Anderson and Winwright from then on. Stuart McIntyre s time as manager was unfortunately shortlived and unsuccessful, and midway through the /7 season he was replaced as manager by former Walton and Hersham manager Alan Dowson. Dowson and his team immediately transformed the club, and achieved a semblance of stability. There was plenty of expectation for the 7/8 season, though inconsistency led to the K s missing the playoffs once again on the final day of the season. The 8/9 season was successful from start to finish. A run to the Third Qualifying Round of the FA Cup was highlighted by a 4 home win over Conference South team Braintree Town, all four goals scored by midfielder Dean Lodge. But it was in the Ryman League Division One South that the biggest success came, as a very strong start led to Kingstonian winning the division. After an absence of four years, the club almost passed straight up through the Ryman Premier Division, recovering from a difficult start to reach the end of the season playoffs. It was Boreham Wood, however, who won the controversial final match. Heartache followed in the following / season when a final day collapse at Margate cost another attempt at the playoffs. The following two seasons saw midtable finishes in the league accompanied by successive London Senior Cup final appearances, before a return to the playoffs in the /4 season, after the club finished runnersup in the league. A semi final defeat against AFC Hornchurch however denied the chance of promotion, in what turned out to be Alan Dowson s last game in charge. With former K s midfielder Tommy Williams installed as manager, the club again reached the FA Cup Third Qualifying Round, losing to a last minute goal against Eastbourne Borough. The league campaign was a rollercoaster, a late challenge for the playoffs falling short in the last couple of weeks of the season. In his second season, the 5 campaign saw the K s lift their first cup in ten years, winning the Isthmian League Cup with a 5 victory over Faversham Town. The 7 season proved to be a difficult campaign, as the club flirted dangerously with relegation thanks to a dreadful run following Christmas; with six games left and hopes almost lost, Tommy Williams was replaced as manager by former Billericay Town man Craig Edwards. He turned the club around immediately and K s moved up to th after a five match unbeaten run to end the season. K s left the Kingsmeadow Stadium at the end of the season and will share with Leatherhead FC at Fetcham Grove for the 78 Bostik Premier campaign. The Isthmian Football League strongly supports the FA statement that there should be a zero tolerance approach against racism and all forms of discrimination. Accordingly any form of discriminatory abuse whether it be based on race or ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, faith, age, ability or any other form of abuse will be reported to The Football Association for action by that Association. 13 BTFC FUNDRAISING PROJECT In February 4, we were given the news that no parent ever wants to hear your son has a medical condition that has no cure. Our hearts were broken into a million pieces. Our little boy has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy a progressive condition which will waste away every single muscle in his body causing eventual paralysis and failure of the heart and lungs. It is % fatal and has no treatment options available life expectancy is just 5. Fraser s body does not produce a protein called Dystrophin which is needed for the repair of muscles, so whilst footballers are strong and have muscles that work properly allowing them to do their dream job, Fraser is 4 years old and already lives his young life fulltime from a wheelchair he will never be able to play football. As parents, you never accept there is nothing you can do so we founded Fraser & Friends, a community to help raise awareness of the condition and educate people about Fraser s life. We have spent the last three years raising money for research, never keeping a penny for Fraser, trying selflessly to make a difference for all children that live with Duchenne. Being a Dad of 5, Glenn was touched by our story and wanted to do something for us a family, something personal, just for Fraser. There will be many lifeassisting pieces of medical equipment that Fraser will need throughout his life, such as a powered wheelchair and breathing ventilation, most of which is not funded by the NHS Glenn is helping us to raise some money towards the things that our son will one day need. We also hope through the profile of the Club, people will learn about our little boy, learn about Duchenne awareness is vital. To have the support of Glenn and BTFC means the world to us as a local family and we will forever be grateful. Just because you can t physically play football, doesn t mean you can t love football! If you see them around the AGP Arena please say hi to Fraser, mum Shelley, dad Geoff and Frasers sister, year old April. #TOGETHERWESAILASONE

14 the GAFFER Firstly welcome to our visitors Kingstonian and all their fans. It s great to get the season off to a start here at the AGP Arena and I very much hope you enjoy the day as our guests. To those of you who came to the AGP Arena on Tuesday night, thank you for your support once again. To those who didn t make it, you missed a very special evening! As you poured into the ground in your hundreds it was incredibly humbling and really brought home just what everyone at the club has achieved this summer. It was so special to see the summer of hard work that has gone into making the ground what it is today really paying off as we broke an attendance record which had stood for forty years. The night got off to a special start as Harry Parker officially opened his own stand in front of a visibly proud and appreciative crowd. It s amazing to see what our fundraising has done for Harry and I sincerely hope we can emulate this by helping many more local children to enjoy a better quality of life. Walking out in front of over 45 people the team were buoyant and focussed on the task in hand. After a few disappointing performances in preseason there was a lot riding on Tuesday night s game and the team and I knew that anything short of a brilliant performance would mean we had let the fans who had turned out to see us down. I am delighted that the boys rose to the occasion and, particularly in the first half, I saw the style and quality of football which we have been working on throughout the summer coming to fruition. We were up against a very talented and hardworking West Ham U side and I felt we really showed what we are capable of this season by not only containing their attacking threat but also putting them under a lot of pressure going forward and scoring some great goals in the process. The night was made by the fans and I cannot thank you enough for the support you have shown the club by attending in such numbers. I am truly sorry for the people who had to be turned away at the gate but we had reached capacity and had to prevent any more people coming into the ground on safety grounds. I do hope those of you who did attend enjoyed the night as much as I did and it has whet your appetite for the season ahead. As we start our league campaign today we are under no illusions as to the scale of the task in hand. We are in a league with some excellent footballing sides in it and I m sure following the recent press coverage we have had as a club, everyone in the league will see us as a scalp they would very much like to take three points from. This excites me as I think we will see great games of football week in week out this season and my team and I will be absolutely focussed on making sure that we are putting the type of performances in which will lead us to our ultimate goal of promotion. That process starts today and I for one am very excited for the months ahead. Please be in full voice today and get behind the boys. Up the Riccay!!! 4

24 PRE SEASON ROUNDUP...PRE SEASON ROUNDUP...PRE SEASON billericay town west ham united Tuesday 8th August 7 A record breaking, history making evening at the AGP Arena on Tuesday night began with the emotional opening of the Harry Parker Stand, by Harry himself as Glenn Tamplin introduced him to thousands in attendance, before Harry let off the ballons that marked the official opening of the new stand named in his honour. The new time record attendance for Billericay Town Football Club of 4,58 were then treated to the teams anthem The Worlds Greatest performed live on the pitch by Lydia Lucy, which was then followed up by the on pitch debut of the Cheerleading team, The Ricays. All this before the two teams were walkeed out on to the pitch by head mascot for the game, Harry Parker. An early effort from the West Ham side was comfortably gathered by Alan Julian in the Town net, which was the only site of goal the visitors had in the first 45 minutes. Rob Davies limped off minutes into the game following a stiff challenge from behind that went unpunished. He was replaced by Dan Waldren. Town were the better team in the first half and deserved the lead they took in the rd minute when Billy Bricknell headed home following some tricky footwork from Louie Theophanous. Before the record breaking crowd could retake their seats Town had double the lead through a fantastic strike from new signing Jermaine Pennant. That would be the final action of the first half as the Blues went in with a lead. A number of changes were made with Ellul, Evans, Pennant, Theophanous, Bricknelll and Foley making way for Paine, Swaine, Modeste, Cunnington, Robinson and Urquhart. The Hammers made the better start to the second half and were rewarded with a goal in the 57th minute. Town then began to press once again with Robinson s crosscomeshot almost creeping into the corner of the net. Leo Chambers, who performed well was withdrawn in the 74th minute. Billericay extended their lead in the 77th minute of the game, a ball played into the box from Paul Konchesky found Sam Deering who took it on is chest and passed it into the back of the net, with the West Ham keeper out of position. Ricky Modeste was a threat throughout the nd half running at the West Ham defence and causing problems with his pace. A West Ham effort late on went just wide of the post, and that was to be final action. A win for Town in front of the biggest crowd at Billericay since 977, ironicallly against West Ham United. 4

Throughout the 8 s and 9 s Scotia Boys continued to grow slowly. In March 5 Scotia Boys changed name to Billericay Town Colts FC and became the official youth section of Billericay Town FC. Today Billericay Town colts is now a successful Charter Standard Community Club, supporting local youth football teams in Billericay and collaborating with Billericay Town FC by providing support for the Eastern Junior Alliance U U7 teams. The club has a membership upwards of 5 children and young people and over + volunteer officers, managers and coaches without whom the club could not run. We look forward to working with Glenn Tamplin and his team this season, to make the club at every level more successful on and off the field. Enjoy the game. Colin Carolan BTCFC Committee

33 Under the helm of Kim Coster, the ladies and girls section has grown to running 7 teams in the 7/8 campaign, U,U, U, U5, U8, Development side and Ladies first team. Coster has been with the club for 5 seasons and is excited about what the future holds for the ladies and girls section. Ladies st team over the years have missed out on promotion as in their league only one team is promoted, this season Coster is delighted to have strengthened the squad by signing West Ham Players, they have settled in well with the existing squad and the season ahead looks promising, our aim is to compete in the top half of the league, with overall objective to win it and at least one major cup trophy, we have full support of Glenn Tamplin and Dan Groves, the first team will be playing on the main pitch, what other female teams at this level will have a pitch as perfect to play on, we also have the pleasure of welcoming aboard a new development squad, bridging the transisition of youth football to the ladies senior team. U8 team this season continues the trend of playing up in a higher age group, they were very successful last season playing as the U team, lifting the Presidents Cup, this season the coaching team are looking for great things for the team. U5 girls were our most success team last season and landed 7 major trophies in the last two seasons, they have dominated the likes of Spurs and West Ham at their age group by winning back to back Essex County Girls league titles, and achieved this magnificent record by going unbeaten, winning and drawing of their 4 game, to round off yet another successful season, they won the National ESF Grande Finale at England HQ, St George s Park in, they returned to the same salubrious surroundings to defend their title against some of the UK s best teams and lifted the title for the second year running. U, Since starting the team at the beginning of the season the girls have seen great development and progression this term. James demands his team plays football in the way it should be played, fast flowing, attacking, and quick thinking passing football with the emphasis of all girls enjoying themselves which is key. The success of a great season is progression which has already seen Billericay Town girls Us reach the League Cup Final against West Ham Utd ladies in their st season! We are extremely proud to be associated with Billericay Town FC and over the seasons have been successful our trophies take pride and are on display in the clubs trophy cabinet. #TOGETHERWESAILASONE
