First division table-topper all square The match of the day in ended deadlocked at 3-3 as second team Bishop s Stortford equalised two minutes from time at leaders Aylesbury United. 2 Dulwich wait on vital meeting On Monday 4 th March the London Borough of Southwark Council meets to hear a planning application which could sound the first death knell of one of England s most historic amateur clubs. Howeever hopes are high councillors will grant Dulwich Hamlet a lifeline that would see their unique colours of Pink and Blue worn by many generations of footballers a longer run into the future. With only a few years left to run on the lease at their current Champion Hill ground, the proposal would see a Homebase store built on the ground, providing plentiful employment for local people. The football club would meanwhile move into a new stadium on adjacent derelict land with the complex incorporating facilities for local schools and other sports clubs to utilise. A long-running campaign by supporters attracted support from football legends such as Kevin Keegan and Bobby Charlton as well as supporters the length and breath of the United Kingdom and from as far afield as continental Europe, South Africa, Australia and the States. All in all over 5,000 signatures have been gathered. The plan is not without its objectors however and when the application is heard at Southwark Town Hall, Dulwich supporters will be holding a vigil outside to which all fans regards of who they support are invited to attend. Wealdstone funday An afternoon of entertainment will be staged at the White Lion ground in Edgware on April 21 st. The events will get underway at 1pm with Viking Rangers Ladies taking on Spurs Ladies. That will be followed by an Under 11s game before the highlight of the afternoon at 4pm. A Wealdstone Past XI will face a Spurs Vets side. Among those pencilled in for the Vets are Dennis Bond, Gary Brooke, Mark Falco, Richard Cooke, Les Boughey, John Pratt, Paul Allen, Paul Price, Jimmy Neighbour, Phil Beal, Tony Galvin, Gerry Armstrong, Milija Aleksic, Ian Culverhouse, David Kerslake, Steve Grenfell, Shaun Close, Ralph Coates, Martin Chivers, Tommy Harmer, Cliff Jones and John Ryden Maidenhead captain moves on Skipper Tim Cook has left Maidenhead United after an apparent disagreement with manager Alan Devonshire. Cook had been kept out of the side in recent weeks due to the good form of Steve Croxford, Jamie Jarvis and Orlando Jeffery. He has now joined rivals Chesham United. Steve Croxford has been named as club captain following Cook's departure. Goal rush keeps Shots cup going Aldershot Town moved into the quarter finals of the League Cup with a three goal burst early into the second half against a Corinthian Casuals side making their first visit to the Recreation Ground. Despite plenty of first half possession Aldershot could not break through the third division side s defences in the opening 45 minutes. However after a strong start to the second half they finally got their reward when Lee Holsgrove buried the ball home from 12 yards from a clearance. The game was over as a contest on 57 minutes when a delightful ball through from Richard Gell was eloquently finished by Grant Payne. The striker turned provider a minute later when his strike was parried by the visiting keeper into the path of Scott Forrester who slotted home. Wokingham set never to return? After leaving their Finchampstead Road home in 1999 newspaper reports suggest Wokingham Town may never return to the town. Club chairman Phillip Butt, speaking to the Wokingham Times, described a meeting with the District Council as "an exercise in futility" after their discussions failed to produce a meaningful outcome to the club's current plight. The meeting was seen as a last-ditch attempt to find somewhere suitable for a return to the district. Mr Butt, in a recent matchday programme explained: "The council suggested we approach Finchampstead Football Club with a view to a ground share. I contacted Finchampstead, and was rapidly brought upto-date on their own problems which include no home matches before the end of the cricket season, no possibility of floodlights, and facilities which are located more than 100 metres from the pitch. I was astounded the council would make such a proposal since their own planning department and officials have been involved in rejecting many proposed developments on that site." For its part a spokesman for the council said: "Since Wokingham Town Football Club's ground in Finchampstead Road was sold for development, the club has been keen for the council to find a piece of our land to develop a new ground for them to play on in the district. We have been working with them to try to identify a suitable site for such a development, but so far we have not been able to identify anywhere that would meet the requirements and planning policies." Wokingham have been ground-sharing at Windsor & Eton for the past three years. 3 Haule goes to Harrow Borough Davis Haule has left Hendon for Harrow Borough. He joined Hendon from Wembley early in the 1999/2000 season and made 89 appearances and scored 18 goals for the club. He made his Harrow debut when he came on as a second half substitute in the 3-0 defeat by Hitchin. Hopes of a quick return to Claremont Road were dashed when the planned midweek game fell victim to the weather. Double century for Bunting Windsor & Eton keeper Trevor Bunting has played his 200 th game for Windsor & Eton. He made his first appearance in March 1998 and celebrated his 200 th in the 4-2 win over Harlow Town. Liburd benefits A benefit evening for Hemel Hempstead Town player Marc Liburd has raised over 2,600. The player suffered a serious knee injury while playing in a pre season friendly against Billericay Town. He has had an operation to repair the damage and was in plaster from hip to foot. The benefit evening which comprised of a Disco/Buffet and an auction of football memorabilia raised 2,655, including a cheque for from Gordon Taylor, the chief executive of the Professional Footballers Association which was donated from their benevolent fund. Thame star wins Oxford trial Jefferson Louis of Thame United has won a trial at third division Oxford United just two months after coming out of prison. The striker served a six-month jail sentence for driving offences Speaking to his local newspaper he said: "Everything that I wanted is coming true. Training with a professional team is a dream come true. When I went to prison, I said to myself I want to achieve something. Going to jail was a good thing that happened to me. It made me look at life in a different perspective and come out better motivated. There's nothing in life you cannot do. If you want something in life, you can do it." Thame boss Andy Sinnott said he had noticed a change in the 22- year-old forward. He said: "Prior to his troubles, he always had the ability but didn't have the application. There's a noticeable change in his attitude and outlook on life. Ware hero dies Former Ware player Mo Hibbet has died. He played for the club in the 1950s and 60s and remains the club s greatest goalscorer. In over seven years in the team he scored 211 times. Grays forced to make changes After recording only their second clean sheet in 13 games with the 1-0 victory at Aldershot, Grays Athletic were forced into making changes to their defence for the visit of Kingstonian. John O'Sullivan was due to start a four match ban while Steve Robinson was suspended for one game. Canvey unveil ambitious stadium plans A joint Canvey Island Football Club and Castle Point Council venture for a ground up to Football League standards, catering for 6,000 fans, have been revealed. Manager Jeff King told the Southend Echo Even residents who do not follow us by coming to games seem to be behind us. I think there's a general feel-good feeling about the football club on the island, simply due to the way we've put Canvey on the map with our performances in national competitions. It's funny to think that, years ago, we were thought of as those nuisances down at The Point. Happily those times have changed. A site at the council-owned Waterside farm sports centre is favoured for the new stadium, but a site in Northwick Road is also being looked at.
