August 2013 The long trek to Wembley started in earnest this weekend with the Extra Prelimary Round and 1500 was at stake for the winners and I am delighted to say that we had a few. Hullbridge Sports of the back of a league win away from home last weekend and a midweek 1-1 draw at Southend Manor on Wednesday made their third away trip in a week, to Woodbridge Town, one of a number of Thurlow Nunn sides we were up against and a hard fought match came awake in the last minute when Harvey Hicks grabbed two goals for Hullbridge Sports to take the tie. At Burroughs Park, Great Wakering Rovers, themselves with two early league successes, a 5-2 win at Bowers and Pitsea in midweek on top of the 2-0 success last weekend, met Halstead Town from the Thurlow Nunn Division One with their Chairman, one of the great Senior League players of all time, Jimmy Holder. Dan Trenkel's side though, were not to be messed about and in a very well disciplined match, found Billy Johnson "on fire" with a hat-trick. The Captain, added his 66th minute effort, a Trenkel Trickle as it bobbled over the line and Max Kent stormed down the right wing to smash home the 5th with a minute to go, In the midweek match at Bowers & Pitsea the highlight of their five goals was an overhead scissors kick from the outside the area by Wakerings' Jay Smith. Bowers & Pitsea are always a joy to visit and their hospitality the very tops. Over at Coles Park, Haringey Borough were entertaining Rushden and Higham and gave the opposition something to think about with a resounding 6-0 victory. Having also scored in midweek in a 2-2 draw at, Darrell Cox opened in 16 mins and added a second a minute before the break. Laewrence Constanti;s 68 min effort was followed by Anthony McDonalds brace on 70m and 76 mins and Dewayne Clarke tied it all up in the 81st minute. An excellent away win came for Tower Hamlets, 3-2 winners at in the week. Their trip to Walsham Le Willows was rewarded with a 1-0 victory thanks to a 75th minute goal from Luke With. Greenhouse London's away day found them Wellingborough Town bound and a 3-3 draw ensued, the home side getting the equaliser 3 mins into added time. Goals for Tom Cookey, Mana Asamoah and Solomon Ofori gave our side a replay. In the all Senior League ties, beat Bowers & Pitsea 3-1, Lemar Reynolds scoring twice in the first half and Rob O'Brien in the second. James Buffin replied for Bowers and Pitsea. Basildon United, 5-3 winners at in the week, met Southend Manor and went 2-1 up at the break with goals from Terry Martin 18 mins and Tom Cocklin 44m after James Braithwaite had opened the scoring for the visitors in the 13th min, There it stood until four minutes from time when Mark Sisson gave his Manor side a replay with a 2-2 scoreline. played Stanway Rovers of the Thurlow Nunn League in front of a superb attendance of 127 and drew 0-0. By just three people, the highest attendance of the day, 130 were at Station Road for the visit of Hadleigh United but it wasn't to be for our side, the visitors going away with a 2-0 win. Also on the losing side were, at Newmarket Town 1-3, Eden Nelson netting the Foxes only goal on 55 mins, League leaders Sporting Bengal United lost away to FC Clacton 1-3 and Eton Manor were on the wrong side of 3-1 defeat at Haverhill Rovers. Sawbridgeworth Town met Mildenhall Town but despite a Billy Jones goal, lost the game 1-6 and, finally, London Apsa lost 1-4 at Whitton United. On Friday night, Enfield 1893 met London Tigers at Coles Park and drew 0-0 so we can look forward to four replays amongst our clubs. Rob Errington 12

Hullbridge Sports BRADFORD ROBINSON ME- MORIAL STAND Football Club are proud to announce that at 2:45pm on Saturday 17th., before the FA Cup match with Bowers and Pitsea, The Bradford Robinson Memorial Stand will be officially opened by Brad's parents Dorothy (Dot) and Ken who have made a generously large donation to the club in memory of their son. Brad did so much for the club as a dedicated supporter and committee member for 30 years and died tragically aged just 39 after a painful and brave battle against cancer.
