1 CentreSpot The official news bulletin of the Essex Senior Football League Season 2016/17 Issue #8 Sunday 18 th September 2016 Waltham Forest pushed Ryman Premier side Folkestone Invicta all the way in their FA Cup tie but ultimately bowed out of the competition after a 3-1 defeat. In the Premier division, leaders Hullbridge Sports, who won in midweek by a solitary goal at Waltham & Development, could only muster a draw against Wadham Lodge but retain top spot by goal difference. The Black & White Army had already picked up 3pts during the week with a 2-0 home win against Barkingside and The Side, themselves, returned to winning ways with a 1-0 win over London Bari at the Old Spotted Dog Basildon United bounced back from last weekend s defeat to record a thumping win over Stansted at the Hive. Sawbridgeworth Town followed up their 5-1 midweek demolition of Sporting Bengal United with 16-year old Ronnie Bird netting the winner on his debut in a 2-1 home win over Tower Hamlets. The former picked up their first league win of the season after defeating West Essex, who fell to their sixth straight defeat in all competitions, 3-1 at the Mile End. Their earlier defeat was a narrow 1-0 loss at the hands of Waltham Forest. With two quick second half goals FC Romania, who went down 1-2 to Southend Manor in their first home game at Theobalds Lane during the week, ended Enfield 1893 s four game unbeaten run in a 4-2 win at Barrows Farm. Clapton denied Southend Manor from annexing all the points with an 89 th minute penalty save by debutant keeper Robert Dogaru and then snatched the points themselves when Roddy Lemba bundled home deep into stoppage time. In their midweek matches, Ilford hit four goals at Redbridge (4-3) and Barking notched three against Eton Manor without reply but Saturday s anticipated goalfest at Cricklefield never materialised as both Ilford and Barking fired blanks. Redbridge suffered their second defeat of the week on Saturday doing down 2-1 to high-fliers Takeley who picked up a useful midweek point in a 1-1 draw with Tower Hamlets.

8 EUAN SEALS CUP WIN AS INVICTA REACH THIRD QUALIFYING ROUND FOR THE FIRST TIME IN NINE YEARS Folkestone Invicta 3 Waltham Forest 1 Pitched against opponents from two leagues lower for the second time in as many rounds, Ryman Invicta found the second half momentum to beat Essex League high-flyers Waltham Forest 3-1 and progressed into the third qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup at the Fullicks Stadium. Opinions varied, but Forest who have only lost one competitive game this season never quite threatened as much as first round visitors North Greenford United and while Folkestone again took the lead and lost it, second half goals from leading scorer Ian Draycott and 16-year-old substitute Euan Sahadow took the home side into the hat for Monday s draw. Outstanding midfielder Scott Heard forced the ball past unconvincing Walham keeper Rhys Madden to put Invicta ahead after 16 minutes, but while some saw it otherwise, the visitors rarely posed an attacking threat until the final minutes of the first period which allowed time for wide-man Rheo Josephs to fire Forest level seconds before the break. If we are honest, Folkestone should have been well ahead before the Waltham equaliser with Draycott within inches of converting chances laid on a plate by midfielders Heard and Ronnie Dolan long before Josephs had given the Essex visitors just a glimmer of hope. But the ever willing Draycott one of four injury doubts for the home side right up to kick-off grabbed a characteristically important goal to restore Invicta s lead just after the hour. The home side were reduced to ten men some 12 minutes from time when referee James Whittaker showed midfielder Dolan a straight red card following a committed challenge that saw one of the Forest players stretchered off after a delay of several minutes. Referee Whittaker seemed so much more reactive than proactive at times, but Folkestone never again looked in serious danger and fellow substitute Matt Newman burst clear down the right before sending over a slide rule pass that allowed youngster Sahdadow to seal victory with his first senior goal.
