September 2013 It was mixed emotions for our two contestants in the F A Cup with Haringey Borough going on to the 2nd Qualifying Round with a 2-0 win over Combined Counties League, Wembley FC at Vale Farm with their two goals scored by Charles Douse, a full back, both headers, from corners, in 2 mins and 73 mins! Meanwhile back at Coles Park, Greenhouse London were playing their most prestigious match in their history with visitors from the Calor Southern Premier League, Bedford Town. Greenhouse London have been exemplary so far in the F A Cup and F A Vase and were looking forward to more success but Samuel Gyasi put the visitors ahead from the spot on 7 mins followed by two further goals before half time from Jordan Davies and Andrew Phillips. The latter then went on to score two further goals but not before Greenhouse London had pulled one back through Tony Cookey in 62 mins. Even after Dominic Lawless scored Bedford Towns 6th, Greenhouse London, a team that never gives up and always entertains everyone present, found Solomon Ofori grabbing a second for our side two minutes from time. In the League heavy downpours over 24 hours once again may have taken its toll except for some fortunate drying weather that followed in various parts of the county and only one game, at Clapton was lost for those reasons, Enfield 1893 carried the honour of top place and not having conceded a goal in their campaign to Southchurch Park for a meeting with Southend Manor and John Bricknell gave the visitors a 1-0 lead at half time with a 39th minute penalty, After a further Own goal in 74 mins, Harry Prince made it 3-0 in 78 mins but then came the moment in time when Southend Manor's Mark Sisson was deemed to have been fouled in the area and up stepped Tom Newell to score from the spot and put a temporary spanner in the works of the Enfield defensive record. Nevertheless, Robbie Evans added a further goal for Enfield 1893 in 83 mins to consolidate their leading place. A 6-1 midweek victory over FC Romania also put Enfield 1893 into the next round of the League Cup. Whilst Great Wakering Rovers were without a fixture this weekend having gone through 3-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Clapton in their midweek Cup game, Takeley, 3-1 Cup winners against Bowers & Pitsea on Tuesday, went into second place with a 2-1 win over Hullbridge Sports and it was the League's leading scorer, Reece Dobson who was on fire with a goal in 37 seconds. Tom Peck pulled one back for the visitors in 49 mins but Anton Collins made sure of the points in 82 mins. FC Romania entertained Basildon United at Cheshunt and were shaken up by the visitors who went 3-0 up in the first half with goals from Angelo Oguneye in 10 mins and 36 mins followed by Greg Akpele, who turned out for Dagenham & Redbridge Reserves in the week, three minutes later. But in a veritable game of two halves, FC Romania fought back to share the points with three goals of their own thanks to George Marin, Petru Budean and Ilie Vasili. Barking with games to make up travelled to Mile End Stadium to play Sporting Bengal United, 4-2 Cup winners at Stansted in the week, and took a 5th minute lead through Lamar Reynolds followed by Ricky Mackin in the 20th minute. Sarfraz Pivanno managed to pull one back in the 65th minute but Barking held on for the points. Eton Manor entertained Ilford who scored their three goals in the second half, Ryan Gardiner in 46 mins and 68 mins and Chris Lockwood 79 mins doing the damage. Sawbridgeworth Town met Tower Hamlets at Crofters End and in a tight match honours were even with Aaron Gayles 26th minute goal for the visitors offset by Charlie Cole's 62 minute equaliser. Meanwhile at Old Trafford, Aarons, namesake, Dwight Gayle of Crystal Palace and reason for so many mentions of the Essex Senior League in the National Press this season, was dreaming the dream by playing against Manchester United! Dwight caused a heart-stop when he eased Adrian Pariappa s 40-yard ball past Rio Ferdinand but clipped a gaping opportunity wide. Could we have imagined that in 2011! Rpb Errington
