1 CentreSpot The official news bulletin of the Essex Senior Football League Season 2016/17 Issue #21 Sunday 18 th December 2016 SEASONS GREETINGS There will be so many of us who look back on what has been in 2016 as we approach this time of the year and in hoping that, if many can just feel at ease with that reflection, for others, it may have brought more excitement than they thought or even success on the field, yet for others absolute sadness at the loss of loved ones. No matter how you may feel I would like to think that, as the holidays approach you will all find peace and goodwill with your families and friends and can look forward to the New Year with a certain hope and renewed vigour so I wish everyone Season's Greetings and look forward to seeing you all again in Rob Errington President/Chairman I am delighted to say that the updated copy (so far!!) of the HANDBOOK is now on Full Time though it still says 1st September but i think that refers to the original copy. (Rob) Unfortunately, a couple of Gremlins crept into last week s issue: The Waltham Abbey v Barking Reserve Division score was shown as 7-1 but it was, in fact,6-1. Jacob Dingli s hatrick for Redbridge v West Essex (10/12) was omitted from the table. (Thanks to David Ballheimer.) Congratulations to Barkingside s George Lutaaya (right) who has been chosen to play for the Uganda international side

2 Peter Brabrook News - Redbridge Football Club Redbridge F.C are sad to hear of the passing of former Ford Utd player Peter Brabrook who started his career with us before playing professionally. Redbridge F.C are sad to hear of the passing of former Ford Utd player Peter Brabrook who started his career with us before playing professionally. Some of our older supporters may remember the name Peter Brabrook, many of you however may not know that he actually started his career with a certain non league club called Ford United. It s with sadness we report that he sadly passed away on Saturday aged 79 after a short illness. Of the small number of players who made it in the professional game having whom previously played for our club he is probably the most successful. An outside right who joined Chelsea in 1954 he went on to appear 488 times in the League with The Blues, West Ham and Orient along with being capped 3 times for England (including a World Cup-tie v USSR). Playing for the Hammers he was part of the famous 1964 FA Cup and 1965 European Cup Winner's Cup winning sides. Our thoughts are with all his family at this time. Homeless people offered free entry to football match in Ilford this weekend Left : Homeless camp on Havelock Street in Ilford Last week, the Recorder reported on the struggle that staff at homeless shelters and charities are facing as the number of rough sleepers rises. In Ilford, a football team is extending an olive branch this weekend. Barkingside FC is offering all staff and rough sleepers in Redbridge free entry to their final match of 2016, against FC Romania, on Saturday at 3pm. Club chairman Jimmy Flanagan said he was determined to give something back. He said: I just thought that with Christmas approaching, it s important for us to give something to the community. It will be our first time doing this but if it goes well, I d like to start doing it a lot more frequently next year. As well as offering free entry to the match, at Ilford Sports Club in Cricklefield Place, Ilford, the club will collect donations which will be distributed to charities in the borough. Phil Herbert, managing director of homelessness charity the Healthy Living Project, welcomed the kind gesture. He said: I think it s brilliant. I hope that it could inspire other football clubs to do the same across all the leagues. Some Premier League footballers earn up to 200,000 a week. It s almost unbelievable! I have to keep saying that figure as it doesn t seem real. On Thursday, the night shelter ran by Ilford Salvation Army, in Clements Road, Ilford, opened its door. John Clifton, who runs the charity branch with his wife Naomi and several volunteers, said there were a lot of familiar faces returning. He said: We are seeing people who have been homeless for over two years now. The problem is that they have no recourse to public funds and so they re effectively stuck. Unfortunately, the three months that the night shelter is open isn t enough time to untangle their personal living situation in order to help them move on. If you have any donations for shelters, there is free parking and fans will be collecting items inside the clubhouse. For more information, ring

But Blues remain seven points clear at the top of the table after their last outing of 2016, with three games in hand on nearest rivals Southend Manor. Barking had thrashed London Bari 5-0 in midweek, while Ilford let a two-goal lead slip to draw at lowly Haringey & Waltham. But the visitors opened the scoring when Liam Whipps sent a corner to the far post and Ajay Ashnike headed home. The hosts thought they had got back on level terms, before realising the referee had already awarded a penalty, which was subsequently saved by Foxes keeper Chris Clark. And Ilford doubled their lead after the break, as Wale Odedoyin netted against his former club, before Glen Golby flicked the ball on for Joe Pearman to halve the deficit with a shot into the bottom corner for his eighth goal of the season. Barking: Hatton, Wackers-Kyriacou, Tarbard, Rix (Shulman 79), Golby, O Brien, Santos, Elbi, Peagram, Delgado, Pearman. Unused subs: Jaconelli, Staunton, Green.

Reserve Division Takeley vs Waltham Abbey Sporting Bengal United FC 1-0 Hullbridge Sports FC Sports ended the year with a disappointing performance at Sporting Bengal.Had the Mile End side had their shooting boots on, they could have easily put five past a disjointed Hullbridge side that barely had a shot on the Bengal goal and this is a side that were second from bottom going in to this fixture. Under 18's keeper Lewis Catling was called up for the game after Sports lost three keepers in a week with James Pellin going to Waltham Abbey, Charlie Aldis going to Stansted and James Merrells hanging up his boots due to work commitments. The only goal of the game was a Luke Osborne own goal after a mix up in the defence and his header went in off the post to give the home side all three points. It took twenty eight minutes for the Bengal keeper to have to make a save after Jimmy Cox had tested him, but you would be pushed to remember any other action around the home sides goal. Sam Taylor saved even more embarrassment on sixty two minutes when he cleared off the goal line for Sports, but this is really a performance that needs to be forgotten.hullbridge now have a break until 7th January 2017 when they see Barkingside visit Lower Road, so let's hope that the Christmas spirit doesn't take too much of a toll on a side that is going to have it all to do in (Source :
