PADRES ON DECK: RHP Bryan Rodriguez allowed five hits with five strikeouts in a complete-game shutout in Triple-A El Paso s 4-0 win at Round Rock. For Double-A San Antonio, LHP Eric Lauer allowed two hits with two strikeouts over 5.0 scoreless innings...lauer is 3-2 with a 5.73 ERA for the Missions since being promoted from Advanced Single-A Lake Elsinore. RHP Pedro Avila, who was acquired from the Nationals last off-season for catcher Derek Norris, allowed a run on five hits with seven strikeouts in 6.2 innings for Single-A Fort Wayne...Avila has a 6-1 record with a 3.54 ERA. Tri-City RF Luis Asuncion had a double with an RBI and a run scored in the Northwest League s 5-4 win over the Pioneer League in the Short-Season Single-A All-Star Game. #61- LUIS PERDOMO - RHP PERD, PERD, PERD...PERD IS THE WORD: 24-year-old Luis Perdomo takes the mound today in search of his fifth win in his last seven starts. Tonight will be his 19th start of the season, 11th at home, and his first career start against the Minnesota Twins. Has worked 5.0 innings-or-more in 15 of his 18 starts and at least 6.0 innings in 11 of those outings. SWING IT, LUIS: In his outing on 7/22 at SF, he hit a two-run triple in the top of the fourth inning...it was his third triple in just 24 at-bats on the season, becoming the first Padre in franchise history to hit three triples in a single season. Perdomo s three triples in his 27-at bats so far this season are more than all other Major League pitchers in their combined 3,068 at-bats...chc Jake Arrieta and PHI Jeremy Hellickson both have one three-bagger. Tossed four straight quality starts from 4/28 to 5/15 and posted a 3.00 ERA (8 ER, 24.0 IP) in that time with a 26-to-6 strikeout-to-walk ratio. WELL GROUNDED: Leads all MLB pitchers with a 65.2 ground ball percentage (minimum 98.1 innings pitched)...teammates Clayton Richard (59.2) and Jhoulys Chacin (52.2) rank fifth and 10th, respectively. SUPPORT SYSTEM: His 56 total runs of support (runs scored while he is in the game) are tied for the ninth-fewest among National League pitchers with at least 98.0 innings pitched...the Padres are 8-10 in his 18 starts this season. A WIN, AT LAST, FOR LUIS: Went 10 starts into this season without earning a win...only John D Acquisto (12 starts without a win in 1977) has ever had a longer winless streak in Padres history (STATS). Tossed 6.2 innings of three-run ball, allowing seven hits while striking out four to earn the victory in the Padres 9-3 victory vs. CIN.
