INF Carlos Asuaje collected his 10th multi-hit game last night with his single and his eighth double of the season...since being recalled from Triple-A on June 23, Asuaje has hit.306 (41-for-134) with eight doubles, a triple, two home runs, 12 RBI and 12 runs scored. PERD IS THE WORD: Starter RHP Luis Perdomo makes his 20th start of the season tonight, and in doing so, he matches his career high start total of 20 from last season, when he made a total of 35 appearances for the Padres...a win tonight would be his fifth in eight starts and he has worked 5.0 innings-or-more in 16 of his 19 starts and at least 6.0 innings in 12 of those outings. LUIS, FOR THREE: Luis Perdomo s three triples in his 28 at bats are more than all other Major League pitchers in their combined 3,189 at-bats...chc Jake Arrieta and PHI Jeremy Hellickson are the only other Major League pitchers to record a triple so far this season...the last pitcher in MLB history to hit three triples in a season was the Marlin's Dontrelle Willis in 2007...the last pitcher to hit four triples in a season was the Phillies' Robin Roberts in 1955. CINCY: Dating back to the 2016 season, INF Yangervis Solarte has hit safely in every game opposing the Reds, hitting.400 (12-for-30) with one double, one home run, four RBI, six runs scored and a.438 on-base percentage. RUNS GALORE: Per STATS, the Reds have had 39 innings this season in which they have allowed four-or-more runs, and after allowing four runs in the eighth inning last night, the Padres have had 38 such innings, ranking as the most and second-most in the Majors this season...the Reds have had 17 games in which they have allowed 10-or-more runs, and as of last night, the Padres have done so in 16 games...this also ranks as the most and second-most in the league. PADRES ON DECK: RHP Michel Baez, a native of Cuba, allowed four hits and fanned nine over 7.0 innings in Single-A Fort Wayne's 3-1 win at Great Lakes...Baez is now 5-0 with a 0.74 ERA. LHP MacKenzie Gore, the Padres' first-round pick, allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts over 3.1 innings in the Arizona Rookie league, as the Padres-1 defeated the Padres-2 7-4. RHP Nick Margevicius allowed two hits with three strikeouts over 5.0 scoreless innings for short-season Single-A Tri-City. DH Jabari Blash hit a grand slam as one of four homers from Triple-A El Paso in a 14-9 win at Fresno...RF Rafael Ortega also had four RBI with a home run. OF Tre Carter, Robbie Podorsky and 2B Matthew Batten all had three hits for Tri-City. DATES IN PADRES HISTORY: On August 8, 2003, Jake Peavy, Jay Witasick and Rod Beck combined on a seven-hit, 12-inning shutout...cf Mark Kotsay drove home the only run with a walk-off double as the Padres defeated the Reds 1-0 at Qualcomm Stadium. On August 9, 1988, C Benito Santiago drove in three runs with two homers and RHP Eric Show allowed one run on four hits with four strikeouts in a complete game as the Padres defeated the Braves 5-1 in Atlanta. #61- LUIS PERDOMO - RHP TONIGHT S STARTER PERD, PERD, PERD...PERD IS THE WORD: 24-year-old Luis Perdomo takes the mound tonight for his 20th start of the season, ninth on the road, against the Cincinnati Reds...his 20th start matches his career high start total of 20 from last season, when he made a total of 35 appearances for the Padres. A win tonight would be his fifth in eight starts and he has worked 5.0 inningsor-more in 16 of his 19 starts and at least 6.0 innings in 12 of those outings. SWING IT, LUIS: In his outing on 7/22 at SF, he hit a two-run triple in the top of the fourth inning...it was his third triple in just 24 at-bats on the season, becoming the first Padre in franchise history to hit three triples in a single season. Perdomo s three triples in his 24-at bats were more than all other Major League pitchers in their combined 2,837 at-bats at that time...chc Jake Arrieta and PHI Jeremy Hellickson are the only other Major League pitchers to record a triple so far this season, resulting in Perdomo having more triples than all other MLB pitchers in their current combined 3,189 at-bats. The last pitcher in MLB history to hit three triples in a season was Dontrelle Willis of the Marlins in 2007...the last pitcher to hit four triples in a season was Robin Roberts of the Phillies in 1955. Recorded two extra-base hits in a game for the first time in his career on 5/15 at MIL his RBI triple in the second inning was the first triple of his career and he became the first Padre hurler to hit a three-bagger since Tyson Ross on 6/20/15 vs. ARI. IT S BEEN A WHILE: Perdomo recorded a win in three consecutive starts from 6/23-7/5, the longest such streak of his career and one of only two Padre to record a win in three straight so far this season (also, Chacin, 7/20-8/1)...over the threegame stretch, Perdomo went 3-0 with a 2.76 ERA (5 ER, 16.1 IP). To start the streak on 6/23 vs. DET, he tossed 6.0 shutout innings of two-hit ball, allowing no runs while striking out six...it marked his second start this season going at least 6.0 innings, allowing two hits or less and no earned runs (also 5/31vs. CHC), the only Padres pitcher this season to record such a start. The only Padres pitcher to record wins in three consecutive starts in 2016 was LHP Christian Friedrich from May 27 to June 6. QUALITY OVER QUANTITY: Has tossed 10 quality starts this year, the second-most on the team behind Jhoulys Chacin s 13. Tossed four straight quality starts from 4/28 to 5/15 and posted a 3.00 ERA (8 ER, 24.0 IP) in that time with a 26-to-6 strikeout-to-walk ratio. WELL GROUNDED: Leads all National League pitchers and ranks second in MLB with a 63.3 ground ball percentage (minimum 104.1 innings pitched), behind only HOU Lance McCullers Jr. (64.1)...teammates Clayton Richard (59.2) and Jhoulys Chacin (51.7) rank fifth and 10th, respectively. SUPPORT SYSTEM: His 58 total runs of support (runs scored while he is in the game) are tied for the eighth-fewest among National League pitchers with at least 104.0 innings pitched...the Padres are 8-11 in his 19 starts this season. A WIN, AT LAST, FOR LUIS: Went 10 starts into this season without earning a win...only John D Acquisto (12 starts without a win in 1977) has ever had a longer winless streak in Padres history (STATS). Tossed 6.2 innings of three-run ball, allowing seven hits while striking out four to earn the victory in the Padres 9-3 victory vs. CIN.
