SO-CAL SHOWDOWN: Yesterday's win over the Los Angeles Dodgers marked the Padres third consecutive victory over their Southern California foe it was the first series the Friars have won opposite LAD since Sept. 27-29, 2016 at Petco...the last time the Padres won three straight against Los Angeles was when they claimed two games from June 5-7 and the first game of the series on July 21, 2013...Saturday, the Padres swept LAD for the first doubleheader sweep in Petco Park history. Yesterday, Jhoulys Chacin reached his career 1,000.0 inning mark in the fifth inning of his start...he recorded his 12th win, and he owns a 8-3 record at Petco this season and a 1.91 ERA (20 ER, 94.1 IP)... his 1.91 home ERA is the second-best in baseball, trailing only Gio Gonzalez's 1.87 ERA. SO WE MEET AGAIN: The Padres host the St. Louis Cardinals for the final series between the two clubs this season...the Redbirds have won seven of their last 10 meetings opposite San Diego, dating back to the start of the 2016 season...the Cardinals are slugging.547 against the Padres in those games, which is higher than against any other NL opponent (STATS)... however, the Padres swiped two of three games in St. Louis earlier this season, marking the first time the Padres have won a series against the Cardinals in St. Louis since July of 2014. WELCOME TO THE GROUNDER GAMES: Luis Perdomo leads all Major League pitchers with a 62.4 ground ball percentage (minimum 134.0 innings pitched)...the Padres have the highest opponent groundball percentage (49.1 percent) than any other team in the majors (St. Louis ranks fifth with a 47.2 percent)...padres starters have forced 1,184 grounders, which are the most in the league among starters...san Diego starters have also induced the most ground ball double plays in the National League (86), trailing only the Rangers (89) for most in the majors...cardinals' starters have forced the third-most in the league (84). THE 'PEN IS MIGHTIER THAN THE SWORD: In their last 20 games (since August 13), the Padres bullpen has posted a 2.81 ERA, which ranks second in the NL and fifth in the majors...
