Stewards' Reports Print Melbourne Racing Club @ Caulfield Date: Saturday August 31 2013 Track: Dead 5 (Races 1-3); Dead 4 @ 1.47pm (Races 4-8) Penetrometer: 5.42 Weather: Fine Rail: +6m entire circuit Stewards Panel: Mr R Cram (Chair), Mr R Montgomery, Mr B McGinley, Mr W Hadley & Mr B Scarlett Race 1 LUCRF JOCKEYS TRUST HANDICAP - 1400 metres: After being placed in its barrier stall Caminetto placed its near hind leg up on the running board. Caminetto underwent a veterinary examination behind the gates and was passed suitable to race. Caminetto again underwent a veterinary examination after the race which failed to reveal any abnormalities. Due to a malfunction with the barriers, a manual start took place. Downalatte was slow to begin (two lengths). Special Girls jumped away awkwardly, shifted in abruptly and tightened Caminetto in onto Spirit Of Heaven (NZ) resulting in Caminetto losing ground. Approaching the 800m Miralago had to be checked off the heels of Critical Angel. From approaching the 600m until the 500m Star Fashion raced tight between Special Girls and Spirit Of Heaven (NZ), which was improving to the outside of Star Fashion. L Nolen (Miralago) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137a, the careless riding being near the 300m he rode his mount out when not sufficiently clear of Special Girls resulting in that filly having to be eased to avoid the heels of Miralago. L Nolen had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight August 31 and to expire at midnight September 6, a total of six race meetings (six provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account L Nolen s guilty plea and good record and that the incident qualified for the low range. Passing the 400m Special Girls had to be eased when tightened for room between Critical Angel (NZ) and Star Fashion, due to both horses shifting ground slightly. Rounding the home turn and in the straight until near the 150m Critical Angel (NZ) had difficulty obtaining a clear run. P Moloney, rider of Spirit Of Heaven (NZ), advised that he was instructed that if there was not a lot of pace in the race to stride forward, and for this reason he elected to go forward three wide from the 800m. Race 2 SPORTINGBET SPRINT SERIES HEAT 1 HANDICAP - 1000 metres:

Lady Antebellum and Daylight Second were both slow to begin (one length). Approaching the 800m Angels Beach had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Holder Sunset (S Baster) which shifted in. S Baster was notified to exercise more care when shifting ground in future. Formidable raced wide without cover. In the straight Balaclava Lady hung in under pressure. In the straight Vain Queen had a tendency to race greenly and lay in under pressure. M Walker (Balaclava Lady) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137a, the careless riding being that approaching the 200m he failed to straighten his mount when not sufficiently clear of Flash Of Doubt thereby tightening that horse in onto Daylight Second resulting in that horse being checked. M Walker had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight August 31 and to expire at midnight September 9, a total of nine race meetings (one metropolitan, eight provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account M Walker s guilty plea and good record, the fact that Balaclava Lady was laying in and that the incident was in the mid-range. Over the last 100m Flash Of Doubt, which had been making ground, was then held up for clear running and as a result went to the line not fully tested. B Melham, rider of Mybenz, advised that he was instructed to ride the mare quietly in the early stages over the 1000m trip from its wide barrier. He further advised that the mare will be better suited over more distance. Race 3 HOCKING STUART HANDICAP - 1400 metres: Trainer Mr R Hore-Lacy was fined $200 for presenting Princess Toshi to race without blinkers which are a part of the mare s declared gear. After the running of Race 2 trainer Mr P Carey advised that Spot On Maggie (NZ) will be ridden forward today from barrier 1 if it begins well. Spot On Maggie (NZ) was ridden mid-field. Spot On Maggie (NZ), which struck the fence when leaving the mounting yard, underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was passed suitable to race. On jumping away Rose Pattern shifted in abruptly and tightened Mosse Diva in onto Oriental Ruby resulting in Mosse Diva being hampered and losing ground. M Payne (Bec Said No Credit) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137a, the careless riding being that near the 1200m she permitted her mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of Mosse Diva resulting in Mosse Diva being checked to avoid the heels of Bec Said No Credit. M Payne had her license to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight September 3 and to expire at midnight September 13, a total of ten race meetings (two metropolitan, eight provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account M Payne s guilty plea and good record and deemed the incident in the mid-range. In the middle stages Mosse Diva raced wide without cover before losing ground rounding the home turn. Rounding the home turn Spot On Maggie (NZ), which was unable to obtain clear running, had to be eased off the heels of Zoomania (NZ) which shifted in slightly before being straightened. Spot On Maggie (NZ) again had difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 200m and then near the 100m commenced to hang in and as a result had to be checked off the heels of Princess Toshi.

Near the 200m Zoomania (NZ) and Lucky Angel were hampered when tightened for room between Ava s Delight, which shifted in slightly, and Spot On Maggie (NZ) which shifted out before being straightened by its rider, K Mallyon. A post race veterinary examination of Mosse Diva failed to reveal any abnormalities. The track was upgraded from Dead 5 to Dead 4 at 1.47pm after the running of this race. Race 4 H D F MCNEIL STAKES (Group 3) - 1200 metres: Prior to correct weight S Arnold rider of Prince Harada, second placegetter, viewed the Stewards film before deciding not to lodge an objection. At a later inquiry: L Stojakovic (Miracles Of Life) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137a, the careless riding being that near the 100m she permitted her mount to shift in under riding, when not clear of Prince Harada making contact with that colt resulting in Prince Harada being tightened for room and hampered. L Stojakovic had her license to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight August 31 and to expire at midnight September 12, a total of twelve race meetings (two metropolitan, ten provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account L Stojakovic s guilty plea and good record and that the incident qualified for the higher end of the mid-range. B Prebble (Fast n Rocking) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under the provisions of AR137a, the careless riding being that passing the 100m he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of Miracles Of Life thereby tightening that filly in onto Prince Harada resulting in both Miracles Of Life and Prince Harada having to be checked. B Prebble had his license to ride in races suspended for a period to commence at midnight September 1 and to expire at midnight September 13, a total of twelve race meetings (two metropolitan, ten provincial). In assessing penalty Stewards took into account B Prebble s guilty plea and good record and that the incident qualified for the higher end of the mid-range. Prince Harada and Orion (NZ) were slow to begin. Divine Calling jumped awkwardly and shifted in. In the middle stages Miracles Of Life over-raced. Prince Harada layed in in the early part of the straight. In the straight Divine Calling had a tendency to hang in under pressure and made contact with the running rail near the 100m. Near the 200m Prince Harada shifted in when obtaining a run to the inside of Miracles Of Life and as a result tightened Divine Calling which was weakening. Near the 150m Thermal Current had to be steadied out across the heels of Fast n Rocking (B Prebble) which was shifting in. B Prebble was severely reprimanded for shifting in when not clear. After the running of the race the RV veterinary surgeon reported that Prince Harada had sustained a small wound to its near fore pastern. Race 5 BMW HANDICAP - 1400 metres: In the early stages Soledad was caught wide and as a result strode forward to sit outside the leader passing the 800m.

Approaching and passing the 600m Osvaldo was tightened for room between High Esteem and Under The Eiffel which shifted in on a number of occasions. P Moloney, rider of Under The Eiffel, was notified that he must leave sufficient room for runners to his inside at all times. For the majority of the straight Veewap and Osvaldo were held up and unable to obtain clear running and as a result went to the line not fully tested. Rounding the home turn High Esteem was held up when unable to obtain a clear run. Near the 150m Sharalam (IRE) was tightened for room between Under The Eiffel and Smarty Mac which shifted in away from Lidari (FR). Near the 50m The Great Snowman, which was weakening, had to be checked when tightened for room between Soledad and Sharalam (IRE), which shifted in away from Smarty Mac, which was being taken in by Lidari (FR). Race 6 THESHARK.COM.AU STAKES (Group 3) - 1100 metres: The start of the race was delayed slightly when Yosei had to be re-plated behind the barriers. Yosei also underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was passed suitable to race. That s The One was slow to begin (one length) and was then inconvenienced by Undeniably which knuckled on jumping and shifted in. In the middle stages Pocket Rockets over-raced. Rounding the home turn That s The One was held up when unable to obtain a clear run. In the straight It Is Written and That s The One both layed in under pressure. Passing the 100m Anise had difficulty obtaining a clear run for a short distance. Over the concluding stages That s The One, which was making ground, was disappointed for clear running. C Williams rider of Pocket Rockets reported that his mount may benefit from the application of a tongue tie. A post race veterinary examination of Pocket Rockets failed to reveal any abnormalities. G Boss rider of Jolie Bay reported his mount felt short in its action. A post race veterinary examination of Jolie Bay failed to reveal any abnormal findings. A post race veterinary examination of Undeniably revealed the gelding to be coughing. Race 7 SLICKPIX STAKES (Listed) - 1700 metres: Araldo (GB) knuckled on jumping away. Near the 1400m The Cleaner got its head up when being restrained to avoid the heels of Spacecraft which shifted in. In the middle stages Folding Gear raced three wide without cover and Araldo (GB) raced four wide without cover.

Stewards questioned S Baster rider of Spacecraft regarding the pace of the race during the early and middle stages in which he led. S Baster advised that he was aware of the strong pace but he had been given firm instructions to lead as Spacecraft had shown in the past to be more competitive when leading. S Baster added that Spacecraft, in his view, had run an excellent race and was only run down over the concluding stages. Race 8 NEW ZEALAND BLOODSTOCK MEMSIE STAKES (Group 1) - 1400 metres: Ajeeb (NZ) was slow to begin (two lengths) as was Fiorente (IRE) (four lengths). On jumping away It s A Dundeel (NZ) and Ferlax (NZ) came together. In the early stages Second Effort was caught wide without cover and as a result was allowed to stride forward and sit outside the leader after passing the 800m. Near the 900m Luckygray, when over-racing, shifted out to avoid the heels of Ferlax (NZ). Passing the 800m Luckygray shifted in on two occasions and brushed Ferlax (NZ). Approaching the 600m Happy Trails shifted out to improve and took Atlantic Jewel out off its course. For the entire length of the straight Silent Achiever (NZ) was unable to obtain clear running and as a result went to the line not fully tested. For a short distance approaching the 200m It s A Dundeel had difficulty obtaining a clear run to the inside of Ajeeb (NZ). Passing the 200m Fiorente (IRE) was disappointed for a run between Happy Trails and Ferlax (NZ) for a short distance.
