Box 804, Bellville Newsletter May 9 Monthly Busso evening: Busso the man that created the iconic Alfa Romeo V6 engine, born Giuseppe Busso 27 April 1913 and passed away 3 January 2006 just 3 days after production was stopped of his beloved V6 engine. He was Technical Director for Alfa Romeo and Ferrari. Some of his projects included 1900, Matta, Giulietta, Giulia, Alfetta and the Alfa Romeo Twin Cam engine. The first Alfa Romeo to receive the fantastic V6 engine was the 6 Sedan. Thanks Rod for bringing your stunning example to the meeting. Also thanks to Alastair for bringing your concours winning 156 GTA another Busso master piece. Unfortunately no photos were taken on the evening. The valve engine received the coveted International Engine of the year award in In August 2011 Evo magazine rated the Alfa V6 engine as the most glorious sounding six cylinder engine ever. Classic and Sports car magazine said it is the best sounding engine this side of the Maserati V8.

2 May 6 Busso run to Damas restaurant Worcester: We all got together at the Clubhouse and left in convoy at around 10:30 and travelled over the du Toit's Kloof pass. En-route to Damas Restaurant we stopped to pick up our Guest of Honour, Ms. Dreyer. The short version of the story is that when our beloved Chairman, Stephen Wearne, was in Grade 2 (Sub. B) his teacher (and our Guest of Honour), Ms. Dreyer was driving an Alfasud. Little Stephen fell in love with the car, and his love grew as he grew older. Finally years later and much convincing, Ms Dreyer decided to part with her Alfasud and Stephen was and still is the proud owner. Ms Dreyer's love for Alfa Romeo has never faded and as a gesture the Alfa Romeo Club invited Ms Dreyer along. She thoroughly enjoyed the day and marvelled at the fabulous array of Alfa Romeo's that lined the parking lot at Damas Restaurant. At Damas Restaurant we were spoiled with not only a lovely setting, but also a scrumptious 2-course lunch. In the convoy we had a really special little car that caused quite the conversation of Facebook: the Conrero Giulietta Sprint. Also in the convoy was 3 x 156 GTA's, 147 GTA, GTV 2.5 with 3.0 conversion GTA, Giulia, Spider, Brera, 4C and an Alfa 6. PHOTOS COMPLIMENTS WANDA ACKERMAN

3 Formula one and Touring car news: Chinese GP Shangai 15 April The car showed good and consistent pace throughout the race. Leclerc spun off during the race which unsettled the car a bit however he managed to recover regain positions after the pit stops. M Ericsson finished 16 th overall C Leclerc finished 19 th overall Azerbeijan GP Baku City 29 April Best race of the season so far. C Leclerc also collected driver of the day a race in which he scored his first ever points in Formula One and that being a rookie F1 driver. In an incident filled race he kept his calm to collect 8 points and a lot of respect. C Leclerc finished 6 th overall M Ericsson finished 11 th overall Spanish GP Barcelona 13 May Not the best race for any of the Italian brands but let s stick to Alfa Romeo. Both drivers gave a relatively strong performance on the day. The team managed a point s finish for the third race in row which is a good sign of things to come. The race was also commemorated by Alfa Romeo s first victory in Formula One on 13 th May 1950 by Nino Farina in the all - conquering Alfa Romeo Alfetta Tipo 158 at Silverstone. C Leclerc finished 10 th overall M Ericsson finished 13 th overall Driver standings at present 10 th C Leclerc - 9 points 13 th M Ericsson - 2 points Constructor s standings at present 9 th overall

4 Knysna Hill climb Simola 2018: The Knysna hill climb once again dished up a whole host of fantastic machinery from single seaters to powerful super cars to classics and of corse two Alfa Romeo Giulia QV s. The Giulia s were entered into class A3 for standard production road legal vehicles. The Giulia s were narrowly beaten by a Noble quite a different type of vehicle to the heavier saloons however we will not go there. Pierre Bester finished second with a time of and in third Piet Potgieter with a time of CEO of Penta Motor Group Phillip Botha was clearly ecstatic with their results. In the classic department Trevor Tuck won his class in convincing fashion with a time of 50.4 sec a full 4 seconds faster than his nearest rival. Killarney 4 Hour Mopar SA endurance series 19 May 2018: In years gone by it was always stated that when the Alfa s came to the Cape for racing they always broke for some reason or other, maybe they were home sick. Of late the Alfa Romeo s seem to be very at home always producing good results. This was again the case with the Mopar Alfa Romeo Giulietta coming home in a fine sixth place in amongst a whole lot of bigger machinery. They once again produced a class win as well as index of performance winner. The car is ultra - reliable and the little Giulietta has been fitted with a few trick bits and pieces from Romeo Ferraris. The gearbox only weighs 90 kilograms, very impressive. CARC stand had a nice buzz with members in and out braai fires and jumping castle for kiddies. I think it went down very well and all enjoyed. Thanks to Erich for the hard work and boerrie rolls with filter coffee and muffins for the chills. Also special thanks to Kosie Freysen and Jan Burger for their donations. Much appreciated. We have some nice plans to convert our stand into a more user friendly one in winter. The club is looking for any input and or hands and or donations to help in this regard.

5 Stunning photo s courtesy of Angelo Marsiglia Mille Miglia 2018: Celebrating the 90 th anniversary of Alfa Romeo s 1928 win The race was one in 1928 by Giuseppe Campari and Giulio Ramponi in an Alfa Romeo 6c 1500 SS with race no mile race on the Italian roads was held from 1927 up until 1957 when these types of races was deemed to be dangerous. Eight Alfa Romeo cars was entered in the 1928 race and all eight finished with Alfa Romeo taking honours in the individual and team categories. This year 90 years later Alfa Romeo takes the three top podiums. What an achievement. In first position the Alfa Romeo 6c 1500 GS which was driven by Tonconogy Ruffini. With just 8 penalty points behind in second position c 1500 Super Sport with coachwork by Stabilimenti Farina a car which currently resides at the FCA Heritage collection and is normally on display at Museo Storico Alfa Romeo. This particular car wore the no 30 race number worn originally by the sister car that won the race originally in In 2018 the drivers were Giovanni Moceri and Daniele Bonetti. In third and yet again an Alfa Romeo the 6C 1750 SS Zagato driven by Vesco Guerini. Alfa Romeo has won 11 Mille Miglia titles 1928/ 29/ 30/ 32/ 34/ 35/ 36/ 37 /38 and 47. Fantastic achievement. Marcus Ericsson and Charles Leclerc racing drivers from the Alfa Romeo Sauber Formula One team were also present and drove the 1932 Gran Premio Tipo B and Competizione, benefits of being F1 driver for an Alfa Romeo team.

6 STELVIO Miss USA Miss Sarah Rose Summers was crowned 2018 Miss USA. More importantly Alfa Romeo USA supplied her with her winning prize the all new Stelvio. Alfa Romeo always supplied the lucky ladies of Miss SA in years gone by. Model of the month Alfa Romeo 2000 Berlina :18 Resin models by BOSS Models This model has just been launched and again is in resin. Models as are now been produced in resin to cut costs because of all the industrial action in countries where labour was cheaper. So model builders have started producing models in Europe again sky rocketing the prices. It also does not help that the RSA rand has gone for a ball of you know what every time a government official opens his mouth. So unfortunately there are once again no opening features. Paint work on these resin models are superb. Before any custom duties or shipping costs they will set you back around R
