1 February 2019 Newsletter January 5, 2019 Meeting Minutes The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance. Guests: Tom Meyers. The Minutes of the Previous Meeting were approved. Lilac City Riders, Chapter "G" Goldwing Touring Association Spokane, WA The Financial Report by Dan Cash shows we are in better financial health than this time last year. The Christmas party expense was about $1300. The Safety Position is still open. Ken will be back in the spring but if you would like to volunteer, please step up. Upcoming Events February Monthly Meeting 3 Superbowl Party 16 Sweetheart Dinner February Birthdays 15 Terry Burns 18 Bob Moran February Anniversaries 20 Jerry & Sheri Boorman The Upcoming Events were discussed: Game Night/Pool Tournament/Potluck- January 12 th at the Wisowaty s at 5:30 pm. Second Harvest/Bite to Go- January 26 th. Our time slot is 10 AM 11:30 AM. Contact Carol Henscheid if you have questions. Spud Feed- January 26 th at 5:30 PM at the Otis Orchards Community Church. Potluck - salads and desserts only. Sweetheart Dinner planning to be held January 7 th at Mike Mustered s at 7 PM. The Sweetheart Dinner will be held February 16 th at the Otis Orchards Community Church. Super Bowl Party February 3 rd at the Burns. Bring dollars and dimes for the Pool. Bring food. Wear Game Clothes if you have them. CMA/IVR is having a game night January 20 th at Fire Station #49. Details forthcoming via . 1 Joe Henscheid shared his conversation with the Andrus regarding the membership issues. It is recommended that you go through Joe to do this.

2 Just give him your renewal form and payment. He will work with the Andrus to get it processed in a timely manner. Conversation of the ride to Medford, Oregon for the National Rally in July. The current plan is leave July 20 th and return July 25 th. There was a suggestion to extend this trip and return via Tillamook and McMinnville Joe will investigate this. Note that the day pass for National is $35 per person. Motels are expensive this time of year and average about $100-$125. Sherry and Jerry Boorman volunteered to take over the Mileage contest. Announcements: Antoinette Wisowaty is having surgery Tuesday morning for a growth on her bladder. Carol Hurst was injured Friday morning in a riding accident. She broke her left collar bone and several ribs. She is currently in serious condition at Sacred Heart and is not able to have visitors. The Burns announced that they will not be the Chapter Directors for the upcoming year. If we want to see the club continue, we have to have a leader. Please step up - if you need help, there will be plenty of people to assist but, we need to have a leader. The door prizes were won by Antoinette Wisowaty and Mary Grose. 50/25/25 garnered $66 for the club and $16.50 each for Helen Morgan and Peggy Burns No one guessed the identity of the member in the photo. New Year s Eve Party Submitted by Peggy Burns Eleven of us gathered at the Burns home for a lowkey New Year s Eve celebration. The first thing we did (naturally) was to sample the many tasty snacks everyone brought. Next, we broke in to two groups and played some games of There were prizes for the winners of the first 8 games. Dan and Grace are probably still on a sugar high from all their winnings. They were incredibly lucky that night. They should have gone out and bought Lotto tickets. After the games we switched over to sevens. It finally reached 11:30 pm so we turned on the TV and watched the New Year s Eve celebrations in Feel free to submit articles on Motorcycle safety to the Newsletter. Peggy Burns won the free breakfast card for guessing the cost of an antique carpet beater that Antoinette purchased in Massachusetts. Colors drawing of $20 was won by Helen Morgan. Times Square. Mary was even somehow able to teleport herself to Times Square and get a selfie with Diana Ross. Amazing wasn t it. 2

3 Finally, it was midnight and we all toasted each other with some fine sparkling cider. After a bit more visiting everyone went home. We actually stayed up until 1:00am probably a record for us on the very first day of We enjoyed our evening tremendously and hope to do it again next New Year s Eve. 3

4 ANNUAL SUPER BOWL PARTY 2019 Date: Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019 Time: Any time after 12:00 noon. Kick off time has not yet been announced. Location: Burns Residence, 4808 S. Woodruff Road, Spokane Valley, WA Get in the mood by wearing sports attire (football) in order to win prizes. Bring food to share, and something to drink if you don t want coffee or crystal lite. Also bring $1 bills and a roll of dimes for each person for the football pools. Join the fun at the annual Super Bowl party. If you re not a football enthusiast, come anyway. Those that don t like football can play games. Bring your own game or use one of ours. The Super Bowl party is always a good time for everyone that comes. Stopping Distance Submitted by Peggy Burns How many of you know how far you will travel before you can stop your motorcycle from the time you recognize a problem until you are able to come to a complete stop? The following chart demonstrates the relationship between time and distance traveled when breaking. Obviously the faster you are going the longer it takes. However, did you realize that if you double your speed (20 mph to 40 mph) it almost triples the distance it takes to stop. If you triple your speed (20 mph to 60 mph) you will travel six times farther before you can stop. The chart assumes normal reaction times and good road conditions. If reaction times are slower than normal or road conditions are not good, then stopping distance will be increased. If you have questions, call Terry or Peggy at Who Am I???
