The Monthly Newsletter of Carlton and District Motor Club JUNE 2015 The Huntsman rally Saturday July 4 th 2015 Update & appeal to ALL members The organisation of the rally is proceeding.regs are immanent and should be out by the time you read this. There's been a lot of interest already with perhaps at least a dozen committed entries. Now's the time to look and decide how you, the club member, will support YOUR club and its premier event. Firstly are you going to enter [& don't forget you don't need a competition licence for the clubman s event BUT limited to 20 places over 15 invited clubs]. Get your entry in quick. As in past events the special tests are non damaging if driven sensibly. Not entering then please marshal. The event needs you and it would be great to get every club member committed.bring your family & friends. Can't commit to a whole day and/or other reason please still volunteer.there's a multitude of other jobs which someone has to do [driver/chauffeur; signing on; etc.] could it be you? PLEASE get in touch sooner rather than later preferably by June 12 th. EVEN IF you can't help on the actual day there are still things to be done beforehand Particularly helpful will be assistance in setting up on Friday 3 rd July and early morning of the 4 th and tidying up on Sunday 5 th.

2 Please get in touch soonest and support YOUR club Vince Orme EDITORIAL and COMMITTEE NEWS The last few days of April and the first few of May are a very busy time for motorsport events in general and for the club Drive it day has become a full days event and the Donington Historic Festival spans three days. Donington has become a must take part meeting and we enjoyed the three days despite the weather being generally cold and unsettled. This picture captures the essence of the Donington Historic Festival mechanics about to fire up a Judd engined Lotus 101 F1 (ex Saturo Nakajima/ Nelson Piquet) in the foreground, Kevin Wheatcrofts amazing W125 replica (of the 1937 Donington GP Mercedes Benz winner) also about to be fired up for demonstration laps and a mixed bunch of classic rally cars in the background which have just completed an hour and a half autosolo demonstration organised by the Midland HRCR on the Donington Grand Prix loop. Shortly after I had taken the picture the Judd V8 was fired up and I nearly jumped out of my skin! I forgot to include Members of the month in April and May congratulations to Matt Carr, first Novice on the Bruce Robinson Road Rally, Rob and Steve for their 2 nd Overall at Woodbridge and In May, Clive and Anji Martin for their great results on the Icelandic Saga. Congratulations to Rob Lowe who took his Classic Subaru Impreza to a crushing 2 minute win on the Middlewick Stages at MOD Woodbridge on 10 th May. Steve and I will be taking the Manta to Ludford for the Wolds Rally on 21 st June, to see our mates at Mablethorpe Mc and Rob Lowe will be out again in the Subaru for the Twyford Stages on 7 th June.

REPORTS Donington Historic Festival 2 nd,3 rd and 4 th May Thanks to HRCR for inviting various club members to take part in their demonstration Autosolo at the Festival. Clive and Anji had no car as Maisie was at sea returning from Iceland and the Harrier is nowhere near ready but we persuaded Anji to attend on Monday where she drove a few laps In the RS2000. Stephen took along the Manta which needed a shakedown following its rebuild. We trailered the Escort and Stephen drove the Manta with Jessica being deafened down the M1. HRCR were on first so there was no time to set up tyre pressures etc and we all slalomed around the cones on the recce lap, although there was no official timing the start and finish marshals recorded times on timecards in the cars for drivers information.

4 Rallying with Group B line up, only a couple of genuine GpB s but an interesting line up I was not surprised that Stephen was quickest the closest I got was within 2 secs and David Brians Mk1 Rs2000 was a couple of seconds slower, but Stephens shakedown had shown up an oil leak which dropped his oil pressure and threatened to drop oil on the track. He kept an eye on the leak, tightened up the timing case bolts and turned out again for the afternoon session where he was even faster, I consoled myself by blaming my pace on forest tyres while he was on inters. As I completed my first afternoon run i noticed a strong smell of petrol, I pulled up in the queue for my second run, switched off and jumped out to check the smell out, a fuel pipe banjo had worked loose and was blowing out fuel. It would be unforgiveable to drop fluids on the racing line of the GP loop with World Superbikes due on the 24 th May and UK riders monopolising the podium! I was not the only old stager to have some spillage problems but there were no problems at the Superbike meeting shown live on Eurosport. Judging by the state of the Paddock and the indoor Group B paddock, there were many other cars with much more serious incontinence problems! No other incidents to report but, as our paddock was very close to the Esses there were plenty of incidents to witness on the race track. My highlight of the day was watching the W125 being started and it roaring around the track 700kgs and 750bhp is much the same as current F1 s but with no aerodynamics and 5 wide tyres, hats off to Rosemeyer! I am not sure what fuel is used back in the day it would have been dope but start up involved pouring a litre or so of fuel into the inlet manifold with spectacular results.

6 Rob Lowe returned to MOD Woodbridge with local expert co-driver Richard Bonner to attempt the move to his Subaru Imprezas first win with its new owner. The results credit Justin Oliver and James Crook with a win on the first stage but in fact their clutch failed and they only completed one lap, otherwise Rob would officially have lead every stage, pulling out an average 10 secs per stage advantage over Johnny Ellis and Dave Green in another Impreza. Alex Cannon and Ray Keith in a Focus briefly held second place but their gearbox failed on stage 2. Third place went to Stephen Tilburn and Jody Wilson in a Millington engined RS2000. The access problems caused by the tram works are beginning to ease and free parking concessions are still available in adjoining car parks and on surrounding roads. Pull off a shock to the establishment on its debut at Le Mans 1250 bhp twin turbo V6 Hybrid, tyre wear is a major problem they are not kidding!, I thought it was April Fools day at first, we will see.
