Hi to one & all, Another year has been completed in the WAC competitive year, culminating with the Presentation & Xmas get together last Saturday afternoon / evening being the most attended ever, &

13 Hi to one & all, Another year has been completed in the WAC competitive year, culminating with the Presentation & Xmas get together last Saturday afternoon / evening being the most attended ever, & hopefully enjoyed by everyone there! The activities got underway at about 3 pm with the kids ( young & not so young "kids") playing with the Radio Controlled Cars, some of the kids riding their bikes into a couple of mud holes, others just jumped into the mud because it was there! A slim Santa made an appearance to give the kids there gifts, lollies etc, after the original Santa ( Dave the St Johns man) was replaced because the suit was so tight, not only could he get it all the way on, it took 2 men & 2 woman to get the partly - on suit, off him, ( funniest thing Id seen for a while). Replacement was Cyril Croker (hence the slim Santa) who did a great job for the kids! Next was the excellent Spit Roasts & all the trimmings were served & devoured by the crowd till they couldn't eat anymore, so then the Trophy Presentation & Awards began, enter Mr MC, Evan Van Leeuwen, who at the mention of a microphone will entertain the troops with his good humour, jokes, quips, etc & make the whole event an enjoyable experience & I can't thank him enough for doing so! Top honours to Dylan Grant ( Club Champion ), Kristy Turnbull (Ladies Champion), Tyler Van Leeuwen ( Junior Champion ).

A huge raffle was keenly supported with some very good prizes to be had, again made more enjoyable with Evan Van Leeuwen announcing the winning tickets as they were drawn by the previous prize

14 John Williamson became the latest Life Member for his dedication to the Club in so many ways, along with two trustee members from years gone by, who we thought should be included in the life member roll, were Steve Marselos & Neil Chappel. A huge raffle was keenly supported with some very good prizes to be had, again made more enjoyable with Evan Van Leeuwen announcing the winning tickets as they were drawn by the previous prize winners, & involving the kids with the drawing of the tickets & letting them announce the ticket numbers over the microphone was excellent. Many thanks to Tammy Croker for her excellent work organising some of the great raffle prizes! All of the above is a lot of hard work & sometimes very stressful efforts of your dedicated members in their quests, to make you & your families time, with our Club as enjoyable & friendly as possible! The money for the presentation food, kids gifts, drinks etc is funded by the Canteen profit for the year ( not from WAC Club monies ) which in itself is a terrific effort to be able to put on the social side of the Club for free. About 3 years ago my aim was to change the way the Presentation was done in previous years, when we would go to a Club, RSL or Bowling etc (somewhere) to have the event, which the cost of doing so, was an expensive night by the time you paid for a meal, drinks etc, the kids were either left at home or bored out there minds, listening to all the awards & dribble that some of us get carried away with, basically the family that supports you is forgotten for most of that night, so my idea was put to the Committee to have it at AWABAWAC Park

grounds, which I got some strange looks, but they humoured me & we went ahead & haven't looked back since, the Canteen has financed it every year since, so that it is more a family event rather than

Don't get me wrong, we recognise the skills of the competitors by their awards they win, but it is not the whole picture, families & partners need to be included. We need to thank the huge effort put in by a few people who put the presentation together & they are; Sue Humbles (who says she is "not doing it next year", every year, but does ) Kylie Inskip (Mother hen to all the canteen staff), Kristy Turnbull, Tony (Gadget ) & Vicki Evans ( spit & meats & spuds & corn organiser ) David Grant & family (cook & some catering ), Danielle Bartlett (some of the kids Toys ). Even though it " wasn't" a competitive event, we had a rollover in the presentation area, big Dave, our St Johns man's chair broke & he went tumbling backwards, which brought on uncontrollable laughter & tears from his female colleagues trying to get him back on his feet, no sympathy for poor Dave, hope we get him back next year, as he has become part of the family. Westlake's Auto Club is going along quite nicely, our Committee continues to work well together, finance's are comfortable, equipment is still producing good tracks, (hence the full fields we have had all year) Rallysprint fields are growing, due to Stage 1 events we run ( been a long time since we've had 40 odd competitors) & most of all the willingness of people to help, make for a successful Club. We are held in high regard far & wide, that makes me feel proud.

It has been a privilege to head the Club for the last few years, I hope I can continue for the 2013 year, but that will depend on a lot of things that are controlling my life at the moment.

Just a mention of thanks for all the kind words & thoughts for my wife, Louise who is battling hard to beat her medical condition & hopes to be back in the Canteen in the future. It is very humbling to think that so many of you are thinking of us at this time. There are a few projects planned for 2013 season (not so much the track, but finish off some building additions, fences & gates etc ) To the Westlake's Auto Club "family" (because that is what you are ) I wish you a Happy & Safe Christmas, be kind to each other & hope to see you all in 2013 Col Pogson President Westlake's Auto Club

19 Dear Santa, Wow, what can I say? All Westlake's Members have blown me away by their enthusiasm, help for each other and love for the sport. I couldn t imagine the friends and family we all have made this year, never mind the adrenalin packed fun we all had in the dust and mud. One thing that didn t change was the weather. Awaba has always been known to get hit by the rain when we don t want it too! There was rain predicted for the last time at the track for presentation day but the sun beamed through for everyone to have a fantastic day and night. I never realized how much the Committee did when joining up this year and boy do they all work! You never hear any of them taking a break. The dedication they all give to the club is something to be very proud of. Thank you to all the volunteers in the club and their families aswell that have helped along the way in My family da tribe has had a great time competing and spectating this year and cant wait to start the count down to hit the dirt next year! There will be a couple more of us competing (yes we are still growing, thankfully WAC has family memberships for all our little sub families), a couple new cars in the works and a new little family member to meet.
