2 Madisonville Youth Boosters Post Office Box 741 Madisonville, La Dear Coaches and Parents: On behalf of the Madisonville Youth Boosters, I want to welcome you to Madisonville and the 2010 Southwest Regional 15 Y/O Babe Ruth Tournament. We are excited about the opportunity to host this tournament. Our Babe Ruth Program has been around for a short time now, and we consider our baseball program to be one of the up and coming programs in the state and region. Players will be staying in the homes of the Host Families in Madisonville. Please review this manual carefully to have a clear understanding of the activities and the responsibilities of you and your players. We ask that you make every effort to make this tournament experience one that will be positive for all players. Keep in mind that your players look to you as an example of how to handle life situations, not just how to play baseball. Make this tournament a memory that they will cherish forever. 5 GAME CONDUCT AND SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS 1. All games will be played under rules and regulations covered in the Professional Baseball Rule Book. Rules and Regulations of Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken Baseball. 2. Brackets for Regional Tournaments are preset at the Regional meeting each year. 3. Bottom of the bracket will be Home Team. 4. The on deck circle closest to your dugout will be the one used by your team 5. Games will be kept moving at all times. No unnecessary delays will be permitted. Have a back-up catcher ready to warm up pitcher between innings if your catcher is not ready. 6. Anyone, players, manager, or coaches acting in an un sportsmanlike manner shall be removed from the playing field or ball park immediately and disqualified from the tournament. If a player is ejected from the game, he must leave the ball park accompanied by an adult. If his parents are not present, he will be accompanied by his manager or coach. No Host Parent will be allowed to accompany the player. 7. Managers, coaches and players shall wear full uniforms according to Baseball Rules. Be neat. When at the ballpark, keep your shirt tail tucked in and your cap on properly. When taking the field, for your game, no warm up or hitting shirts allowed. Protective headgear must be worn at bat and on the bases. Equipment (bats, gloves, helmets, etc) shall be neatly stacked in their proper places at all times (inside the dugout). 8. Only players, coaches, manager, and the batboy shall be allowed in the dugouts. Players and coaches must stay inside the dugouts (exception two coaches in the coach boxes on offense.) 9. Masks with throat protectors will be required at all times when warming up the pitchers whether on the field or in the bullpen. 10. No team will be allowed to kneel or stand along baseline and watch other teams warm up. 11. Players must be in uniform and at the field (1) hour before their scheduled game time. All players will be required to attend the Opening Ceremony in uniform 12. Each team will be allowed ten (10) minutes of pre-game fielding practice. The home team will start thirty (30) minutes prior to the game time. The visiting team shall practice next for ten (10) minutes. The remaining time shall be used for the introduction of players, umpires and introduce any special guest. 13. Jewelry is prohibited, players shall not wear jewelry. Medical alert and religious bracelets are not considered jewelry. If worn they must be taped to the body so as to remain visible.

6 14. The tournament is under the jurisdiction of the Assistant Southwest Regional Commissioner and the Tournament Director. The Protest Committee shall be appointed by the Tournament Director in accord with the Southwest Regional Commissioner or his assistant. The Protest Committee shall have the final authority in all protests. A rules violation is the only thing that can be protested (judgment calls are not to be protested). 15. The Southwest Regional Commissioner shall have authority to remove any player, coach, or manager for actions detrimental to Babe Ruth Baseball. Any misbehavior on or off the field could cause the disqualification of a manager, coach, or player or the entire team from the tournament 16. The team manager together with the Host Parent Coordinator will determine at his teams elimination if the players will remain in their Host Homes until the next morning or leave the Host homes. The entire team will be required to do the same (stay one more night or go with the team manager). Any other arrangements must be approved by the acting Babe Ruth Commissioner. Teams using a bus or other outside transportation should make arrangements for the transportation to be available upon elimination from the tournament. All teams should be removed from Host Homes by no later than noon following the day of elimination from the tournament. 17. Check with your State Commissioner to ensure that he mailed one 5 x 7 or 8 x 10 glossy photograph and one copy of your consent for treatment forms to the Regional tournament site and to Babe Ruth Headquarters. You are responsible for bringing your STATE FLAG (3 x 5 ) with your credentials to the Regional Tournament check-in. 18. One room per team for manager and/or coach will be provided by the host site. This will be furnished from the time of check-in and will continue until check-out times the day following elimination from the tournament. This room will consist of two double beds. 19. NO TOBACCO PRODUCTS WILL BE PERMITTED ON THE PLAYING FIELD, DUGOUT, OR RESTROOM BY MANAGERS, COACHES, OR PLAYERS OF A TEAM.

7 PLAYER INSTRUCTIONS Reporting Each player must report with the team at the appointed time and place for Host Parent Assignment and all other scheduled events. Game Conduct The Southwest Regional Commissioner shall have the authority to remove any player, coach, or manager for actions detriment to Babe Ruth Baseball. Any misbehavior or misconduct on or off the field could cause the disqualification of a manager, coach, player or the entire team from the tournament. Schedule Follow your team schedule at all times. Be at practice sessions, Regional games and special events on time. Be sure to check with your manager and Host Parents whenever you divert from the listed functions. Appearance Banquet: Dress for the banquet will be informal. Khaki slacks are preferred-no SHORTS and team uniform shirts. (No flip-flops or sandals). Penalty for players or coaches not dressing properly will be dealt with severely. Ballpark: When teams enter the field for their game they will be in their baseball uniform, no warm-ups or hitting shirts will be allowed. When in uniform at the ballpark, your shirt will be tucked in and your cap worn properly. A Religious Medal taped to the inside of your uniform shirt will be the only jewelry allowed. Leisure: As champions of your state, we expect your dress to be neat; you of course may dress informally and comfortable. Bare feet will not be allowed at any time you are outside of your Host Home. Curfew All players are to be in their Host Parents home one (1) hour after the day s last scheduled activity or Regional games. If an event or game goes beyond 12 o clock midnight, all team members will return directly to their Host Parents home following the event. There will not be a one (1) hour grace period. Uniforms Each player on the same team shall wear a different number on his uniform. The Babe Ruth Shoulder emblem shall be worn on the left sleeve. (For sleeveless uniforms, the shoulder emblem must be worn on the left chest.)

8 Money Do not request money, gifts or special favors from your Regional Host Family at any time. If you need special assistance or guidance, contact your team manager or a member of the Babe Ruth Regional Staff. Phone No Host Family telephones will be used without the Host permission. No charges will be made to the Host Family phone. Read the instructions given to the Host Parents regarding player instructions. Automobile You are not permitted to use any type of recreational equipment, go carts, bicycles, etc. No player will be allowed to drive a Host Parent s automobile. If a player drives his vehicle to the tournament site, it will be grounded for the duration of the teams participation in the tournament Host Hotel If a player needs to visit the host hotel, he must first have permission from his Host Parents, Team Manager, and Tournament Commissioner. It is recommended that players not be at the host hotel Host Homes Team manager together with the Host Parent Coordinator will determine at his team s elimination if the players will remain in their Host Homes until the next morning or leave the host homes. Computers You are not permitted to use any household appliance, electronic, mechanical or computer equipment. Swimming You are not permitted to take part in any water activities other than swimming (i.e. no diving, etc.) You must also check with your manager and/or coaches prior to going swimming, particularly on game days. Host Team Members of the Host Team are to be treated and are subject to the same regulations as the other State Champion Teams.

9 HOTEL LIST Below is a list of hotels in the Madisonville/Covington area. The coaches will be provided 1 room per team reserved at the Friendly Inn - Hammond, LA. Those rooms are listed under Babe Ruth SW Regional Tournament. I suggest that you inform the players families to call the La Quinta first. They have a block of rooms listed under Babe Ruth SW Regional Tournament. These rooms are blocked under the code Babe Ruth Please mention this code to receive the special rates, these hotels are providing for the tournament. Please call the Host Hotel for the block rate.
