UNLV opened up with wins over Seton Hall and New Mexico State, but lost its next three to Florida Atlantic, Illinois and Seton Hall. The Rebels opened Friday's action by scoring six runs off of nine hits in both games. They defeated SHU, 6-4, behind Paige Emerson's three-hit, three-rbi performance. Against NMSU, the Rebels fell behind 1-0, before Emerson evened the score with a solo homer in the fifth. The offense scored five more times in the sixth, a tworun shot from Pauline Monreal and a three-run job by Heather Harrison. On Saturday, UNLV was deadlocked with both FAU and UI, but one swing of the bat by the visitors was the difference maker. After watching FAU stake itself to a 5-0 lead, UNLV countered with five of its own. Unfortunately, a bases loaded situation turned into a grand slam, which won the game for FAU, 9-5. Against UI, the Rebels held a 2-0 edge only to see Illinois tie it up. A sacrifice fly in the fifth was the deciding score for Illinois in the 3-2 game. Sunday's finale was a 5-0 blanking by SHU, who scored twice early and three times in the fifth. UNLV was led offensively by four players with four or more hits and.357 or better. It was the third career MW weekly accolade for Oliveto. Oliveto went 3-1 in four appearances for UNLV last weekend at UC Santa Barbara s Gaucho Classic I. She registered an ERA of 1.25 and struck out 20 batters while surrendering four earned runs and four walks in 22.1 innings of work. Oliveto began the weekend with a relief appearance in a nine-inning affair against San Diego. She entered the game in the seventh inning with two outs and a runner on, but shut down the Toreros over the final 2.1 frames to earn the 2-1 win. She retired all six batters she faced, which included two via strikeout. She made the start against Nevada, Reno and limited the Wolf Pack to three hits in the 1-0, complete-game victory. She struck out eight hitters, while walking one. Four UNR batters reached base safely, with only one advancing as far as second base. In a 1-0 loss to host UCSB, Oliveto threw 6.0 innings and allowed one run on four hits with three strikeouts. After she gave up a run in the second, only five batters reached base, with only two getting as far as second. In the finale against USD, she threw a complete game and was touched for three runs on six hits en route to the 7-3 victory. She struck out seven against three walks. GETTING THE 100TH The UNLV Rebels' Pete Manarino notched his 100th win as the skipper of the Scarlet & Gray last Friday night in a 6-1 victory over New Mexico State. Manarino took over the Rebel program in 2009 and led the squad to the NCAA Tournament that season. Manarino is no stranger to milestones, as the college softball stalwart coached his 1,500th career NCAA Division I game last season (May 8 vs. San Diego State).

UNLV was victorious in dramatic come-from-behind fashion with a two-run walk-off home run. Manarino began his 27th season of coaching on the NCAA Division I level and his fourth overall at UNLV on Feb. 10. To date, he has coached a total of 1,517 games with 164 games as the Rebels skipper and 1,353 more at Long Beach State (1984 to '06). HISTORY RESET Over the past three seasons, the UNLV Rebels have assaulted the program's year-by-year record book. In 2009, the squad broke three offensive records, as they topped out in RBI (.260), slugging percentage (.466) and on-base percentage (.384). They nearly added three more categories to that list (batting average, runs and home runs), but came up short. In 2010, the team managed to reset the record book and one-up its predecessor by claiming all six of those previously mentioned categories for its own. They set highs in batting average (.323), runs (331), home runs (51), RBI (289), slugging (.517) and on-base percentage (.406). In 2011, the Rebels were able to claim the home run (54), slugging (.520) and on-base percentage (.408) categories for their own. More impressively, this year's team did it in only 45 games, while the 2009 and '10 teams needed 53 and 52 games, respectively.

Prior to the seven-year surge in home runs, UNLV had only registered one season, from 1985 to 2004, with 40 or more home runs when the '95 squad hit 43. They oneupped themselves with a stretch of four consecutive against Wisconsin (March 13), UC Santa Barbara (March 13), Western Illinois (March 16) and Fairfield (March 25) with a run of hits. They notched another three-gamer together with against Seattle (April 2), Loyola Marymount (April 2) and Colorado State (April 8). The Rebels scattered a season-high 15 on three occasions: UC Santa Barbara (March 13), Colorado State (April 8) and Utah (April 28). Through 19 games, the 2012 edition has reached double digits in hits twice with both instances coming at UC Santa Barbara's Gaucho Classic I. UNLV smashed 10 hits against then-#23 Houston (Feb. 25) before one-upping itself with 11 vs. San Diego (Feb. 26). In all, the team has nine or more hits in seven of the 18 games played. Most recently, the team had a five-game stretch where they registered at least nine hits in each contest. The run began with the Houston and San Diego games and followed with the Seton Hall (March 2), New Mexico State (March 2) and Florida Atlantic (March 3). They had nine hits in each of those March contests. RUNNING HOME Since 2005, the UNLV Rebels have scored 200 or more runs in each of the past seven seasons. The 2011 team touched home plate 254 times to extend the streak. In all, the softball program has seen 14 teams score at least 200 runs in a given season. Prior to the seven-year surge in runs, UNLV had only registered seven seasons, from 1985 to 2004, with 200 or more scores. Paige Emerson led the team with 40, while Ashli Holland and Stefany Valentino tied for the second with 34 apiece. Through 19 games, the 2012 editions has scored 65 runs. 6 OH NO, OLIVETO THROWS ANOTHER NO-NO Amanda Oliveto tossed her third career no-hitter in the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic against Memphis. The sophomore hurler went the distance in the 1-0 win over the Tigers and 22 batters, one over the minimum. Oliveto cruised along until the third batter of the fifth inning ended the hurler's bid for her firstcareer perfect game. Unfortunately, a walk put a halt to the perfect bid, but left the no-hitter attainable. She got next seven batters out to preserve the no-no. In all, she got 12 batters to ground out, five to strike out and two to line out. In 2011, Oliveto became the fifth pitcher in UNLV softball history to toss a no-hitter when she went the distance in a complete-game shutout of Cal Poly (March 27). At the time it was the 12th no-no thrown in program lore until she achieved the feat once more in her next start against Seattle (April 1) for #13. More impressively, Oliveto was the first to throw them consecutively. The no-hitter against Cal Poly was the first for UNLV since Feb. 18, 1995, when Stewart won an 8-0 decision over Massachusetts. Against Cal Poly, she held the Mustang offense incheck, as she struck out eight. Besides the strikeouts, she induced 12 ground outs and one fly out.
