BUSY WEEKEND AT THE BALLPARK In addition to some exciting Pac-10 softball on the field, there will be lots going on at Husky Softball Stadium this weekend. After the Huskies take on UCLA Wednesday, all UW students are invited to attend the Huskies' practice on Thursday at 4 p.m. where there will be a free barbeque along with a home run derby. Students will have the opportunity to dig into the batter's box (albeit against a pitching machine, not Danielle Lawrie) and see who can knock the ball out of the park. The following day when UW faces Oregon State, students will again be encouraged to come out for Dawg Pack Friday with free food available. The Husky band will also be in attendance as the Huskies try to sweep the season series from the Beavers. Saturday is Spring Fling at UW, with several exciting sporting events taking place including rowing's prestigious Windemere Cup along with Husky baseball against USC. Outfield seating at Husky Softball Stadium will be free Saturday when UW takes on Oregon at 3 p.m. Saturday will also be "Real Dawgs Wear Purple... And Pink" Day as the first 300 fans will receive pink t-shirts while the Huskies will don pink jerseys in support of cancer awareness. Finally on Sunday, fans will receive free trading cards of the Husky juniors and sophomores while the Husky band will again be in attendance. Sunday is also Armed Forces Day as the Huskies take on the Ducks at Noon. LAST WEEK The Huskies picked up a win in three games over the weekend in Arizona, falling 9-2 to No. 4 Arizona State on Friday before knocking off No. 7 Arizona, 4-1, on Saturday to clinch the season series from the Wildcats. After winning the first two games against Arizona State back in March to clinch the series from the Sun Devils, the Huskies picked up their second win over the Wildcats on Saturday to guarantee series wins over both the Sun Devils and Wildcats for the first time since Against the Wildcats, Danielle Lawrie shut down the nation's highest scoring offense again, limiting Arizona to just one run on four hits while striking out 13 to give UW a 4-1 win. Ashley Charters was again the leader at the plate, going 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot while freshman Kimi Pohlman continued to hit Pac-10 pitching well, going 2-for-4. Fellow freshman Niki Williams also had a big day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a walk. SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION: No. 2 UCLA (35-8, ; 51-9, ) Series vs. UW: UCLA leads About UCLA: The Bruins come to Seattle as the hottest team in the conference, riding a nine-game winning streak. All nine wins have come in conference play and followed a four-game losing streak which saw the Bruins start a surprising 1-4 in conference play. Since then, UCLA has been unbeatable, led by Megan Langenfeld in the circle, who is 11-0 on the season. The Bruins swept three games on the road against the Arizona schools last weekend, capping the weekend with a school-record seven home runs in a 10-4 win over ASU. They also run-ruled the Sun Devils, 9-1, on Saturday after defeating Arizona, 2-1, on Friday. The Bruins are led by Katie Schroeder at the plate, who sports at.410 average and 13 home runs, while Langenfeld has carried UCLA in the circle with her 1.11 ERA. Series History: The Bruins have already clinched the season series over the Huskies after winning both games in Los Angeles a few weeks ago. UCLA has now now five consecutive meetings between the two teams after sweeping the season series last season. The Huskies took two-of-three from the Bruins in 2007 including one at Husky Softball Stadium. SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION: Oregon State (24-25, ; 28-31, ) Series vs. UW: Washington leads About Oregon State: The Beavers are looking to get back on track after being swept last weekend in the Bay Area by Cal and Stanford. Oregon State is looking to get back above the.500 mark to become eligible for postseason play. Despite the losses last weekend, the Beavers set a new school record by turning their 29th double play of the season. OSU is led at the plate by sophomore Audrey Roderfeld, who carries a.326 average and also leads the team with 12 home runs and 34 RBI. Freshman Paige Hall has carried most of the load in the circle, going with a 3.11 ERA while Kelly Dyer leads the team with 107 strikeouts in innings. Series History: The Huskies clinched the season series over the Beavers two weeks ago by winning a pair of games in Corvallis and will look to sweep the season series for the first time since UW had dropped two-ofthree to the Beavers in four consecutive seasons. SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION: Oregon (15-29, ; 35-29, ) Series vs. UW: Washington leads About Oregon: Like their state counterparts, the Ducks are also coming off a weekend in the Bay Area in which they were swept by Cal and Stanford. Oregon has been led by their speedy trio of Neena Bryant, Sari-Jane Jenkins and Cortney Kivett, who have a combined 59 stolen bases this season. Bryant leads the team with a.338 average and 26 steals, the latter of which ranks third in the conference. Jenkins, an All Pac-10 outfielder who is the Ducks' all-time leader in steals, sports a.309 average with 12 steals. Samantha Skillingstad has led the way in the circle, going with a 2.14 ERA. Series History: The Huskies hold a commanding lead in the series and have won six of the last seven against the Ducks, including a win in Eugene two weeks ago. UW won the season series last year, 2-1, and has captured the season series from the Ducks in five consecutive seasons. They last swept the three-game series in EIGHT WCWS APPEARANCES TWO PAC-10 TITLES 15 STRAIGHT POSTSEASON APPEARANCES

UW has been in the nation's top-5 for 10 consecutive weeks since being ranked No. 7 in the NFCA poll on Feb. 17. UW is No. 3 in the all-important RPI rankings, which take strength of schedule into account. The Huskies only trail No.1 Florida and No. 2 Alabama - both of whom they've beat - in the RPI. The Huskies spent two weeks at the top spot in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Top 25 earlier this season after going 5-0 in the Cathedral City Classic, including a 1-0 win over current No.1 Florida. That performance gave the Huskies their first No. 1 ranking since the 2000 season. It was also the first time the Huskies have ever been ranked No. 1 in the ESPN.com poll, which has been in existence since TOUGH SCHEDULE After playing 13 games against ranked teams in the pre-season, the road has only gotten more difficult for UW as they are in the midst of a difficult Pac-10 schedule. Half of the NFCA top-10 are Pac-10 teams while three of the top five hail from the conference. UW has had success against ranked teams this season, defeating six of the nine teams in the NFCA Top 10 excluding themselves. They handed No. 1 Florida one of their three losses, and have also defeated No. 3 Alabama, No. 6 Michigan, No. 7 Arizona State, No. 8 Arizona and No. 9 Georgia. Additionally, the Huksies have also defeated No. 12 Ohio State, No. 14 Cal, No. 15 Tennessee and No. 23 Florida State. Of UW's nine setbacks this season, eight have come against top-10 teams and all but one have come at the opposing team's home field. They lost twice at No. 2 UCLA and No. 4 Stanford and one each in Tuscaloosa, Ala., to No. 6 Alabama and No. 8 Georgia. Last weekend the Huskies fell to No. 7 Arizona State and No. 8 Arizona on their home fields as well. HOME SWEET HOME With their 9-0 record at Husky Softball Stadium this season, the Huskies are off to their best home start in school history. The 2005 team previously started 8-0 at home before the 2009 team surpassed that mark recently. The nine-game home winning streak is still a ways off from the longest home winning streak in school history, which is a 15-gamer held by the 1996 team. That team went 18-2 overall at home en route to its first World Series appearance. NO SLOWING DOWN Since having her 16-game hitting streak snapped three weeks ago against UCLA, Ashley Charters has bounced right back into form. The senior collected four hits in 10 at bats last weekend against the Arizona schools - including her eighth three-hit game of the season against Arizona - and has now hit safely in five of the last six games and in 21 of 24 overall. With a.459 overall average, Charters is threatening to break UW's long-standing single-season average record of.472, set by Angie Marzetta in Charters has especially enjoyed hitting Pac-10 pitching, hitting safely in 11 of 14 conference games and collecting at least two hits in 10 of those games. She is hitting an even.500 in conference play (25x50), scoring 12 runs and driving in six. Her.459 overall average ranks second in the Pac-10 and eighth nationally. She also ranks second in the Pac-10 in stolen bases, fourth in hits and seventh in runs scored. MOVING ON UP With her four hits over the weekend, Ashley Charters moved into a tie for third all-time in UW history with 286 knocks. She needs just six more to tie Jaime Clark for second and needs 33 to tie the all-time record established by Sara Pickering. Charters also inched closer to the all-time runs record with one over the weekend, giving her 196 compared to all-time leader Clark, who crossed home plate 223 times in her career. SILENCING THE CATS After no-hitting the nation's highest-scoring offense back on April 3, Danielle Lawrie was at it again last weekend, silencing Arizona's potent bats in a 4-1 Husky victory. While the Wildcats made sure there would be no no-no from the get-go when Brittany Lastrapes doubled to lead off the bottom of the first inning, Lawrie was nearly as unhittable the rest of the way, retiring 11 in a row after Lastrapes' hit. She struck out 13 in the game and allowed just four hits, keeping the Wildcats' high scoring offense at bay. Lawrie was most impressive in the fifth inning of the game when she worked herself into some trouble but promptly worked her way out. After walking the first two batters of the inning and allowing a single to load the bases, Lastrapes struck again with an RBI single. But Lawrie, as she has done all season, bore down and got K'Lee Arredondo to ground into a fielder's choice put out at home for the second out. Then facing No. 3 hitter Jenae Leles with the bases juiced and the nation's HR leader Stacie Chambers on deck, Lawrie went to a 3-0 count before coming back to strike out Leles on a wicked change up to escape the jam. She would go on to record her 26th win of the season. ONE-TWO-THREE With 16 strikeouts over the weekend, Danielle Lawrie can now lay claim to the top three single-season strikeout marks in UW history. Lawrie now has 325 strikeouts on the season, passing Jennifer Spediacci's 316 in Lawrie holds the No. 1 spot with her 457 Ks in 2007 and the No. 2 spot with 387 in Lawrie could have up to four chances this week to tie and/or break UW's single-season shutout record. She has 15 this season, one shy of Spediacci's 16 in NFCA/LOUISVILLE SLUGGER ALL-AMERICA SELECTIONS 53 ALL-PACIFIC REGION SELECTIONS

Stuart Williams Blake Greer Stenson Lawrie Koziol Harris Fleischman Ventoza Clifton TEAM Multi-RBI Games Player Total Watson Blake Harris M. Stuart Williams Greer Charters Pohlman Smith Lawrie Salling Stenson McWherter TEAM POHL POSITION Kimi Pohlman continues to impress in her first season with the Huskies, proving to be one of the more consistent hitters in UW's lineup this season. With speed and power to boot, Pohlman has solidified herself in the No. 2 spot in UW's lineup and has been a mainstay in the outfield. The freshman is batting.373 on the season, which ranks ninth in the Pac-10, making her one of just two rookies in the Pac-10's top-10 in average. Pohlman has yet to be caught stealing this season, going a perfect 14-for-14 on her attempts. She has also shown some pop in her bat, belting two home runs, including a grand slam for her first career long ball. Pohlman hasn't backed down against the toughest competition either as she's hitting a robust.390 in conference games. Earlier this season, Pohlman showed her clutch ability when she provided the game-winning single in UW's 1-0 victory over current No. 1 Florida, notching the single against All-American Stacey Nelson. GETTING HER SEA(TT)LEGS While new Husky Jenn Salling is still getting her timing back after not playing in game competition since the 2008 Olympics, the Canadian superstar appears to finally be coming around for the Huskies at just the right time as they head down the stretch toward postseason play. Salling, who was a First team All-American and the Pac-10 Newcomer of the Year with Oregon in 2007, will face her former team again this weekend after picking up her first career hit as a Husky against the Ducks two weeks ago. Since making her debut at home in early April against the Arizona schools, Salling has been a solid contributer from the No. 3 spot in the lineup, driving in five runs and scoring four times. CLOSE CALLS The Huskies have shown a knack for winning the tight ball games this year as they are 6-2 in extra inning games, most recently a 1-0, nine-inning victory at Oregon State. That win was also UW's fifth 1-0 win of the season. The Huskies are 9-2 in one-run games on the season. CENTURY CLUB With three RBI two weeks ago, including a game-winning home run against Oregon and a two-run double against Oregon State, Ashley Charters became the second Husky this season to go over the 100-mark in career RBI. Charters now has 101 to move one ahead of teammate Alicia Blake, who picked up career RBI No. 100 with her first home run of the season against Arizona State on April 4. Just 15 Huskies have ever accomplished the feat, incluing Blake and Charters, and another Husky should join the club soon. Lauren Greer has 99 for her career and joins Blake and Charters in the chase for the all-time top-10 list as Aimee Minor controls the No. 10 spot with 109 career RBI. YES-YES TO NO-NOs Danielle Lawrie had come close a few times earlier this season but finally sealed the deal on her first no-hitter of the season - and third of her career - April 3 against Arizona and it couldn't have come at a better time. The Wildcats came in with a nation-leading 88 home runs but were no match for Lawrie, who walked one and struck out 12 in the near-perfecto. Lawrie's last no-hitter came in the 2007 Women's College World Series when she shut down DePaul in her first-ever World Series game. She also threw a six-inning perfect game against Utah Valley State in Lawire now has one no-hitter, three one-hitters and eight two-hitters this season. COMEBACK DAWGS The Huskies have come from behind to win 10 times this season. Most recently, UW trailed 2-1 against Arizona State before tying the game in the fifth and walking-off in the seventh on Ashley Charters' game-winning home run. UW earned the Comeback Dawgs moniker in the Judi Garman Classic, when it won one of the craziest games in Husky history, scoring eight runs in the final two innings to defeat Penn State, The Huskies fell behind early as Penn State jumped out to leads of 5-1 after one inning and 7-1 after two. While the Dawgs chipped away, Penn State kept extending their lead and took a 13-6 lead into the sixth. But UW scored five in the sixth and three in the seventh to win the game on Niki Williams' game-tying triple and Alicia Blake's game-winning single. LET'S GET IT STARTED UW is in pretty good shape if they get off to a fast start, going 27-0 this season when they score first. They are also undefeated when they score in the first inning, going 14-0 when they jump out of the gates early. POWER SURGE Senior Ashlyn Watson has had a breakout year for the Huskies, making the most of her first healthy season by leading the Huskies in home runs (7) and RBI (29), both of which are career highs. She also ranks third on the squad with a.364 average and tied for second with 44 hits. She also leads the team with four sacrifice flies, a number which ranks tied for eighth nationally. A career.219 hitter coming into 2009, Watson has been one of the most consistent forces in the Husky lineup this season, hitting safely in 30 of the 42 games she's played in and leads the team in multi-rbi games (8) while ranking second in multi-hit games (13). She has also risen to the occasion against some of the toughest pitching in the country, batting.438 (7x16) in the Cathedral City Classic, including a 2-for-4 effort against All-American Stacey Nelson of Florida. In the Easton SEC/Pac-10/Big 12 Challenge against three ranked teams, Watson hit safely in every game, batting.533 (8x15) with two doubles, two home runs and two RBI along with three multi-hit games. Both of her home runs came in UW's 2-0 win over No. 7/8 Georgia. TWO ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA AWARD WINNERS 10 ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT VIII SELECTIONS

With two home runs last weekend, UW now has connected for 34 home runs with 10 different players going deep, including four freshmen. Ashlyn Watson and Ashley Charters have already equaled the team's individual high set last season with seven home runs (Morgan Stuart and Alicia Blake each had 7 in '08). UW is 22-0 this season when they hit at least one home run. TRIPLE YOUR PLEASURE The Huskies did not have a triple in 56 games last season, the first time in school history UW went an entire season without a three-bagger. Senior Ashley Charters made sure the Huskies wouldn't repeat the effort when she picked up a three-bagger against UC Santa Barbara in the opening game of the Campbell Cartier Classic. UW now has a total of eight three-baggers on the season, led by Charters' three. Freshmen Felecia Harris, Kimi Pohlman and Niki Williams each have one while Morgan Stuart has two triples. ALL GOOD THINGS MUST END Danielle Lawrie had an incredible streak of 90 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run earlier this season until No. 9 Georgia plated two runs in a 2-0 victory over the Huskies in the Easton SEC/Pac-10/Big 12 Challenge. Although the NCAA only recognizes streaks of innings scored upon - earned or unearned - Lawrie's streak of 90 consecutive innings without an earned run is easily a school record. Within those 90 innings, Lawrie had a streak of 64.1 consecutive scoreless innings which ended in the Husky Softball Classic. The streak ties Cat Osterman for the 16th longest in NCAA history. In the Pac-10 annals, it ranks as the seventh-longest streak behind such names as UCLA's Lisa Fernandez and Cal's Jocelyn Forest. During the streak, Lawrie went 11-0 with eight complete-game shutouts and struck out 119 batters while walking just 11. During the 90 innings, she went 14-0 with 10 shutouts and 142 strikeouts. A K OF Ks Lawrie reached another milestone in the Easton SEC/Pac-10/Big 12 Challenge when she became the first Husky pitcher ever to go over the 1,000 strikeout mark in her career. She struck out eight in a 6-0 win over No. 2 Alabama to become just the second active Division I pitcher with 1,000 Ks, joining Stanford senior Missy Penna. Lawrie's 11.1 strikeouts per seven innings ratio for her career is No. 5 all time, behind such names as Cat Osterman, Monica Abbott and Angela Tincher. WOMAN OF THE WEEK Danielle Lawrie picked up an impressive trifecta after the Cathedral City Classic, sweeping the National Player of the Week awards along with earning Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week. Lawrie earned her second consecutive Pac-10 honor and also added the USA Softball National Collegiate Player of the Week award and the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Player of the Week. It marked the first National POW award for Lawrie in her career and her sixth Pac-10 honor. She is the first Husky to sweep the awards and the first to earn any national POW honor since Dena Tyson in Lawrie went 3-0 in the Palm Springs tournament without allowing an earned run in 23 innings while striking out 43 batters and allowing just five hits. She threw three shutouts, two of which were in extra innings against ranked teams, including one against one of the most powerful lineups in the country in Florida. Her week started with a nine-inning, two-hit shutout of Florida, which came into the game batting.376 as a team. She struck out 12 and allowed just two bunt singles. Against Nebraska, the junior allowed a leadoff single then retired the next 21 batters, just missing her second career perfect game. She struck out 15 to set a season high, then topped herself with 16 Ks in a two-hit, eight-inning shutout of Ohio State. QUEEN K Danielle Lawrie came into this season already holding UW's single-season strikeout record and just two weeks into the season she became its career leader as well. Going into the Campbell Cartier Classic, Lawrie needed just 14 strikeouts to equal Jennifer Spediacci's career school record and she nearly broke it in the first game of the weekend. Lawrie struck out 12 UC-Santa Barbara hitters to get within two, then tied the record with two Ks in the first inning against San Diego State. One inning later, she broke the record, becoming UW's all time leader with 895 strikeouts. GOING STREAKING The Huskies' 19-game winning streak to start the season ended when No. 2 Alabama handed UW a 6-0 loss in the Easton SEC/Pac-10/Big 12 Challenge. The 19-game winning streak is tied for the second-longest in school history, trailing the 2000 team which won 23 in a row. 6 UW SOFTBALL APRIL 28, 2009 WHAT A START With their win over then-no. 2 Florida in the Cathedral City Classic, the Huskies improved to 11-0, breaking the school record for best start to a season. The previous best start was put together by the 2002 team, which kicked off the season The 2009 team extended the record by winning their first 19 games of the season. JUDI GARMAN CLASSIC RECAP - 3/12-3/15 The Huskies had a successful weekend at the prestigious Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif., compiling a 4-1 record in one of the toughest tournaments in the country. UW earned victories over No. 22 Florida State, No. 8 Michigan and No. 25 Fresno State along with a slugfest over Penn State. Danielle Lawrie earned all three of the victories over ranked teams, allowing just one run and five hits in 27.1 innings while striking out 47 batters. She allowed just two hits against Florida State, with Ashlyn Watson again provided the clutch gamewinning hit in a 4-1 win. After UW outslugged Penn State in a wild game - with the Huskies overcoming deficits of 7-1, 11-4 and 13-6 to win in the bottom of the seventh - the Huskies won a much different ball game, 1-0 over Michigan. Lawrie allowed just one hit and struck out 13 while Morgan Stuart's home run provided all the offense. Lawrie came back the next day to allow just two hits in 11 innings while striking out 18 as the Huskies outlasted Fresno State, 3-0. Ashley Charters provided the game-winning hit to give UW its fourth extra-inning win of the season. Stuart led the Huskies over the weekend with a.471 average and two home runs. EASTON SEC/PAC-10/BIG 12 CHALLENGE RECAP - 3/5-3/8 The Huskies suffered their first two losses of the season and Danielle Lawrie's streak of consecutive innings without allowing an unearned run ended at 90, but all was not lost as UW picked up three big wins in the Easton SEC/Pac-10/Big 12 Challenge in Tuscaloosa, Ala. In what was arguably the best four-team tournament in the country all season, the Huskies defeated then-no. 1/3 Alabama on their own field in front of a record 3,012 fans to snap the Tide's 23-game home win streak. UW also won games against No. 11/12 Georgia and No. 24 Baylor. Lawrie earned all three of UW's victories, all via shutout, first a 1-0, eight-inning win over Baylor. After Alabama stopped UW's 19-game winning streak to start the season, Lawrie came back Saturday and threw back-to-back shutouts over Georgia (2-0) and Alabama (6-0) as the Huskies avenged their only loss. On Sunday, Georgia finally solved Lawrie and scored the first runs off the ace since Feb. 7 and handed Lawrie her first loss of the season, 2-0, in UW's final game of the weekend. HUSKY SOFTBALL CLASSIC RECAP - 2/27-3/1 The Huskies made their home debut, hosting the fourth annual Husky Softball Classic. UW went 3-0, defeating Seattle, 8-0, and Portland State, 11-1, by the mercy rule while earning a second victory over Portland State on Sunday, 8-2, in a game shortened to five innings due to rain. UW's final game against Boise State was rained out. UW had seven players hit over.400 on the weekend, led by Morgan Stuart, who batted.714 (5x7) with a run and three RBI, along with seniors Alicia Blake (.625, 5x8, 4 R, 7 RBI), Ashley Charters (.600, 6x10, 5 R, 1 HR) and Ashlyn Watson (.444, 4x9, 4 R, 2 RBI). The Huskies also got contributions from their freshmen, as Felecia Harris went deep twice over the weekend - including a grand slam - and Kimi Pohlman also went yard. The Huskies twice hit back-to-back home runs and batted.417 as a team. Danielle Lawrie earned all three wins in the circle, allowing no earned runs and just four hits in 14.0 innings while striking out 26. CATHEDRAL CITY CLASSIC RECAP - 2/20-2/22 The Huskies went 5-0 in the prestigious Cathedral City Classic, including an exciting 1-0 nine-inning win over No. 2 Florida. UW also earned victories over Long Island, Mississippi, Nebraska and No. 23 Ohio State, the latter of which was also an exciting 1-0 game which the Huskies won in the bottom of the eighth inning. UW opened the weekend holding off a pesky Long Island team, 7-3, with Felecia Harris getting the complete-game victory and Ashlyn Watson and Ashley Charters each providing home runs. The Florida showdown more than lived up to the hype as the No. 2 Gators and No. 3 Huskies stayed scoreless until the ninth with All-Americans Danielle Lawrie and Stacey Nelson dueling in the circle. The Huskies finally got the victory on freshman Kimi Pohlman's ninth-inning RBI single and Lawrie fanned 12 Gators and allowed just two hits to win the duel. After an 8-2 win over Ole Miss on Saturday, Sunday was the Danielle Lawrie show as she struck out 31 batters in two games, pitching back-to-back shutouts over the Cornhuskers and Buckeyes. She threw a one-hitter in the 6-0 win over Nebraska with 15 Ks and followed with an eight-inning, two-hit shutout with 16 Ks over Ohio State. Ashley Charters came through with the game-winning, walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth. CAMPBELL CARTIER CLASSIC RECAP - 2/13-2/15 The Huskies came out swinging the hot bats in San Diego and it resulted in a 4-0 record. UW outscored their four opponents (UCSB, Utah State, San Diego State and Long Beach State), 38-4, batting.409 as a team and banging out six doubles, three triples and four home runs. The Huskies won two games by the five-inning mercy rule, including a 16-3 route of Utah State, the most runs by a UW team since a 22-1 outburst against Nevada in In the final game of the weekend against No. 25 Long Beach State, the Huskies tied a season high with 15 hits and used an 11-run third inning to breeze to a 4-0 record in the tournament. Danielle Lawrie was named Pac-10 Pitcher the Week after the weekend, going 3-0 without allowing a run in 18.1 innings and striking out 28 batters. RED DESERT CLASSIC RECAP - 2/6-2/8 In the Huskies first weekend of action in St. George, Utah, they were reminded just how much they missed RECORDS WATCH: DANIELLE LAWRIE In just her third season in the Purple & Gold, Danielle Lawrie has already carved her name into the record books and is poised for more this season. Over the weekend, she moved into the No. 3 spot on the single-season charts for strikeouts and now owns the top three spots. She also moved into the top-5 in wins with the 80th of her career. Earlier this season, she became Washington's alltime career leader in strikeouts. She is also just one shy of the single-season record for shutouts. 7 UW SOFTBALL APRIL 28, 2009 their three stars who missed the entire 2008 season for various reasons. UW started the season 5-0, which included a 2-1 season-opening victory over No. 12 Tennessee. Junior All-American pitcher Danielle Lawrie went 3-0 in the circle with a 0.64 ERA, striking out 36 batters in 22.0 innings while allowing just eight hits and two earned runs. Senior two-time All-American Ashley Charters led the team with a.429 (6x14) batting average, six runs scored and four RBI - including a grand slam - while senior All-Pac-10 outfielder Lauren Greer was right behind Charters with a.417 average (5x12), three runs and four RBI, including a game-winning three-run jack against LMU. SEASON DEBUTS Washington has opened each of its 16 seasons with a multiple-team tournament, accruing a record. The Huskies have gone undefeated in five of those tournaments (1996, '00, '02, '03, '09) and are 13-4 in season openers after defeating No. 12 Tennessee, 2-1, earlier this season. FOLLOW THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED The Huskies face one of the most challenging schedules in the nation in 2009, taking on five of the eight teams that advanced to the 2008 College World Series and 18 teams that participated in the 2008 NCAA tournament. In addition to a difficult preseason schedule, the Huskies embark on a difficult Pac-10 schedule, historically the most powerful conference in college softball, with the league winning 21 of the 27 national championships contested in the sport. The conference has also had at least three teams advance to the College World Series in 10 consecutive seasons. Six of the eight Pac-10 teams which have softball are ranked in the preseason top 15. UW PICKED THIRD IN PAC-10 Pac-10 coaches showed UW plenty of respect by picking Washington to finish third in the conference after the Huskies tied for fifth last season. The Huskies received two first-place votes and 36 total points to finish just behind 2008 Women s College World Series participant UCLA and defending national champion Arizona State. UCLA was picked to finish first with 43 points, followed by Arizona State, which received 41. Washington followed with 36 points, ahead of Arizona (34), Stanford (31), California (19) and Oregon and Oregon Stated points each. CHARTERS, LAWRIE NAMED TO PLAYER OF THE YEAR WATCH LIST Ashley Charters and Danielle Lawrie were two of 50 players named to the Watch List for the 8th Annual USA Softball National College Player of the Year Award, as announced by the Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA). They were also recently named Top 25 finalists for the award when the field was narrowed down. The two-time All-American Charters was named to the same watch list last season before having to redshirt the season due to an injury. She was named First-Team All-Pac-10 and Second Team All-American in 2007, leading the Huskies back to the College World Series where she was named to the All-Tournament Team. She was also named to the Top 50 Watch List prior to the 2007 and 2006 seasons. Lawrie, an All-American in 2007, redshirted last season as well while she trained with the Canadian National Team and competed in the 2008 Olympic Games. The First Team All-Pac-10 selection and First-Team All- American was one of 25 finalists in 2007 for the USA Softball Player of the Year award. She went on to pitch a no-hitter and a one-hitter in the 2007 College World Series to lead the Huskies into the national semifinals. She was also the lone freshman on the 2006 Top 50 Watch List. 10 Head Coach Heather Tarr Fifth Season Alma Mater: Washington (1998) their successes in the classroom. Washington finished the season with a record and finished sixth in the Pac-10 Conference with a mark after four teams log-jammed in a tie for first place with 13-8 records. Heather Tarr begins her fifth season at the helm of the Husky Softball team after leading the Huskies to their 15th consecutive postseason berth in In just four seasons, she has led Washington to the Super Regionals and a top-15 national ranking three times, including a No. 3 finish in The 2008 season saw Tarr lead UW to its 15th consecutive postseason appearance despite the loss of All-American pitcher Danielle Lawrie, who redshirted the season to compete in the 2008 Olympic Games with Canada, as well as All-American Ashley Charters and Lauren Greer, who took the season off due to injuries. The Huskies compiled a season - their 15th consecutive 30+ win season - advancing to the NCAA Regionals before falling to host Houston. UW finished tied for fifth in the Pac-10, a conference which sent seven of its eight teams to the postseason.
