Despite appearing in only five games and throwing just 8.0 innings, Bishop took full advantage of her first year in the program. She spent countless hours in the bullpen, earning the respect of her teammates and coaches while making great strides in her development. A late pickup for Nebraska in the 2012 recruiting class, Bishop saw her hard work pay off when she took the circle. The right-hander allowed an earned run in only one of her five appearances as a freshman. Although she did not factor into a decision, Bishop picked up one save to tie for team-high honors in that category, and her 1.75 ERA was the lowest mark of any Husker in Her game experience, combined with another dedicated offseason, have Bishop poised for a potentially larger role in 2014, although the Huskers return senior All-American Tatum Edwards and sophomore Emily Lockman, both all-conference and all-region pitchers from FreshMan season [2013] Bishop put in countless hours in the bullpen leading up to the season and during her freshman campaign. Although she saw limited action behind a pair of first-team all-region pitchers, Bishop made great strides in her development and produced impressive results when she did take the circle. Nebraska s tallest pitcher, Bishop posted a 1.75 ERA in 8.0 innings in 2013, combining for one shutout while adding one save. She allowed an earned run in only one of her five appearances on the season, while ranking in a tie for eighth among all Big Ten pitchers in saves. Bishop tossed a perfect inning in her career debut against New Mexico on Feb. 10 in the final game of Nebraska s season-opening tournament in Las Cruces, N.M. She then threw a career-high 3.0 innings against Maryland back in her home state of California, earning a save after allowing only one hit and no runs against the Terrapins. The next day, Bishop came on in relief against No. 9 Oregon and struck out a career-high three batters, while allowing two runs in 2.0 innings. She faced another ranked team the next weekend, tossing 1.1 innings of scoreless, one-hit relief against the national champion Oklahoma Sooners. Her final appearance of the year came in game one of a March 20 doubleheader at North Dakota State, when she pitched two-thirds of an inning and did not allow an earned run. Bishop was one of two freshmen pitchers from California in Nebraska s 2012 recruiting class after starring at Woodbridge High School in Irvine, Calif. The final addition to NU s signing class, Bishop decided to become a Husker following her official visit to Nebraska in September of 2011, just two months before she signed her letter of intent with the Huskers. She was a late find for Nebraska, as injuries had limited Bishop s recruitment, but Bishop possesses plenty of potential, and she put together a healthy and solid senior season at Woodbridge. Bishop completed her prep career at Woodbridge High School in the spring of As the team s ace in 2012, Bishop led the Warriors to their first appearance in the CIF playoffs in several years, which included a first-round win over Aliso Niguel. She compiled an record against talented competition, posting a 2.47 ERA in innings. Bishop added one save, struck out 97 and walked only 39, as opponents owned just a.289 onbase percentage against her. Bishop also contributed to Woodbridge s success offensively, batting.386 on the season with 11 doubles, two home runs, 11 walks, 17 runs scored and 32 RBIs in only 30 games. For her efforts, Bishop was selected to participate in the Orange County Coaches all-star game following her senior season. Bishop also experienced a wealth of success on the club level. She was a part of Mark Campbell s Victory USA 14-and-under team that won the 2009 ASA national championship, after finishing as the runner-up the previous season. In 2010, Bishop made the jump to the 18-and-under gold level with the So Cal Athletics, who won the inaugural Premier Girls Fastpitch National Championship in a nationally-televised final on ESPN. In the summer of 2011, Bishop played for the Firecrackers-Snyder team out of Lakewood, Calif. Bishop helped lead the Firecrackers to a third-place finish in a field of more than 300 teams at the Gold Triple Crown Colorado Sprinkler tournament in Denver. For her efforts on the club level, Bishop earned an invite to the Allister OnDeck 2010 Arizona Jamboree, an invitation-only event for elite high school softball prospects. A three-time all-conference performer and the 2013 Big Ten Pitcher of the Year, Edwards was a second-team NFCA All-American in 2013, becoming the first Husker to earn first- or second-team All-America accolades in nearly a decade. She teams with her twin sister Taylor - a third-team All-America catcher in to give Nebraska an All-American behind the plate and in the circle. Nebraska and Arizona State are the only two schools in the country to feature an All-America battery in 2014, while the Huskers are one of only seven teams nationally to return multiple All-Americans this spring. In the circle, Tatum is in her career with a 2.17 ERA. After seeing limited action in her first two seasons, Edwards posted a record with a 1.91 ERA and 10 shutouts as a junior in 2013, when she ranked 11th nationally in shutouts and 12th in victories. She enters her senior season in fourth place in school history with a.754 career winning percentage and 10th with 333 strikeouts. This spring, she will attempt to become only the third Husker to produce three seasons with 10 or more home runs and just the sixth to produce 30 career doubles and 30 career home runs. Junior season [2013] Edwards put together one of the most complete all-around seasons in school history in 2013, excelling in the circle and at the plate. For her efforts, Edwards was selected as a second-team NFCA All-American, a first-team all-region honoree, the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year, a unanimous first-team All-Big Ten selection, a Big Ten All-Tournament team pick and twice she was named the conference pitcher of the week. With her second-team selection, Edwards became the first Husker since Peaches James in 2004 to be chosen as either a first- or second-team All-American. She was also the first Husker since James in 2004 to win a conference player-of-the-year award, and Edwards was one of only five unanimous first-team All-Big Ten honorees in She proved to be one of the nation s top dual threats, as Edwards and Oklahoma s Keilani Ricketts - the 2012 and 2013 National Player of the Year - were the only two players in the country to produce 30 victories and hit at least 10 home runs in Edwards is the only player in school history to reach both of those marks in the same season. In the circle, Edwards enjoyed a breakout junior season after seeing relatively limited action in her first two seasons. She ranked 11th nationally in shutouts (10), 12th in victories, 30th in hits allowed per seven innings (4.9) and 40th in strikeouts (229). Edwards also left her mark on Nebraska s record book, ranking fourth in wins, seventh in shutouts and complete games (30) and eighth in innings pitched. Her 30 wins were the second-most ever by a Husker junior, while her 10 shutouts ranked third. She did not allow an earned run in 20 of her 44 appearances, including 15 of her 36 starts. Edwards also posted five double-digit strikeout games in 2013, a feat she did not accomplish once while making 35 appearances and throwing combined innings during her freshman and sophomore seasons. After a solid opening weekend, Edwards gave a preview of what was to come when she tossed a complete-game five-hitter without allowing an earned run in a 1-0 loss in front of more than 2,000 fans at No. 16 Arizona in the second week of the season. She then took a no-hitter and shutout into the seventh inning in an eventual loss to No. 1 Oklahoma in her next start against a ranked team. Edwards picked up her first win over a ranked opponent when she tossed her second shutout of the season, a four-hitter against No. 23 Florida State. She snapped the nation s longest winning streak with her three-hit victory over No. 9 Michigan in April, then snapped the nation s longest home winning streak with a five-hit win at No. 3 Oregon in May. Edwards allowed only one earned run in both of those streak-snapping, complete-game victories. While Edwards saw her pitching stock soar in her junior season, she also continued to swing a strong bat, despite fewer at bats with her increased workload in the circle. Edwards batted.286 on the season and slugged.600 as 22 of her 40 hits went for extra bases. She recorded 11 doubles and 11 home runs, becoming only the seventh player in school history to produce 10 doubles and 10 home runs in the same season. In the postseason, Fowler produced the game-winning RBI in a Big Ten Tournament victory over Purdue, and she added a critical insurance run with an RBI single in the Huskers 4-2 win in game three of the NCAA Super Regional at No. 3 Oregon, a victory that clinched Nebraska s berth in the WCWS. Defensively, Fowler fared well in her first season at first base. She committed only five errors in 427 chances, posting a.988 fielding percentage. Fowler s 404 putouts ranked 10th in school history. Freshman season [2012] Fowler made an immediate impact as a freshman in 2012, starting all 55 games for the Huskers. One of only three players to start every game for NU in 2012 and the only underclassman Fowler began the year as the starting third baseman before moving to shortstop. She started the final 49 games at short and made five starts at third base and one early-season start in the circle, before focusing exclusively on her hitting and defense. Fowler improved throughout her freshman season and finished with a.248 batting average that included five doubles, one triple, five home runs and 27 RBIs. She recorded eight multi-hit games and six multi-rbi efforts, proving to be a clutch hitter despite her freshman status. Fowler was especially clutch in the eighth inning, leading the Huskers to a perfect 3-0 record in extra-inning contests. On the year, Fowler hit.011 higher with runners in scoring position, and she produced 11 of her 27 RBIs with two outs. After earning Arizona Gatorade Player-of-the-Year honors in her senior season of high school, Fowler s college career got off to a slow start in her opening weekend as she dealt with a position change, while also taking on a pitching role. After settling in at her natural position of shortstop and focusing only on that position, Fowler flourished in the second weekend of her career. In five games in New Mexico, Fowler went 7-for-15 with three doubles, a home run, two walks, four runs scored and eight RBIs. She excelled in two games against 2011 NCAA Tournament qualifier New Mexico State, finishing 5-for-6 with three doubles, a home run, six RBIs and four runs scored in two games against the Aggies. Defensively, Fowler posted a.921 fielding percentage, committing 13 errors. She also made one appearance in the circle, starting against Idaho State in the third game of the season, allowing four runs on four hits in 2.0 innings.
