Friday s opener begins at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday s second game starts at 1 p.m. On Saturday, fans are welcome to bring their leashed dog(s) with them to Bowlin Stadium as part of Bark in the Park Day. Sunday s finale begins at Noon. Fans with a same-day baseball ticket can purchase a general admission softball ticket for only $1. Fans unable to make it out to the ballpark can follow all of the action online. Nate Rohr will have the call for a free radio broadcast on Huskers.com, and live stats will also be available. Nebraska has won 11 consecutive home games, the longest home winning streak in the Big Ten. NU has won a league-best 10 consecutive Big Ten Conference home games. Nebraska is all-time in conference openers, including a 2-1 mark in Big Ten openers. Head Coach Rhonda Revelle is in her 22 conference openers. The Huskers rank second in the Big Ten in batting average and third in slugging percentage, onbase percentage and runs per game. Nebraska has scored double-digit runs 10 times in 24 games. Knighten went 3-for-3 vs. Charleston Southern with a double, two homers and a career-high five RBIs. THIS WEEK S TOP 10 Record: Ranking: Not Ranked Big Ten Record: 0-0 Home Record: 1-0 vs. Michigan State: 7-0 Nebraska brings a record into conference play following a 4-1 showing last week that included a 10-1 run-rule victory over UNO in the home opener. That win marked NU s 11th consecutive home victory, and the Huskers have also won 10 consecutive conference games at Bowlin Stadium. In five games last week, Nebraska outscored its opponents The Husker offense continued its strong hitting, averaging 8.4 runs per game. Nebraska tallied at least 10 runs three times last week, as the Huskers have now totaled double-digit runs in 10 of their first 24 games. The NU pitching staff also performed well, posting a 2.90 ERA in five games last week, its lowest mark of any week this season. Nebraska s offense is currently on pace score 369 runs and average 6.6 runs per game, which would top the school records of 358 runs (1996) and 5.7 runs per game (2014). The Husker roster features eight Nebraska natives, tying for the most in-state players since softball became an NCAA sport in Rhonda Revelle last carried a roster with eight Nebraska natives in 2009, while the 1990 and 1992 Huskers also featured eight in-state products. Thirteen players on the NU roster were either a high school or travel ball teammate with at least one fellow Husker. Six Huskers were named their state s high school player of the year, representing four different states. The Huskers who earned state high school player-ofthe-year honors include: Alicia Armstrong (Nebraska); Mattie Fowler (Arizona); Kaylan Jablonski (Nebraska); Emily Lockman (California); Cassie McClure (Texas); and Madi Unzicker (Nebraska). Three of Nebraska s four pitchers were their state s high school player of the year, including Jablonski, Lockman and McClure. Nebraska features four pitchers on its roster, marking the first time since 2009 that NU has four pitchers. The NU roster features five players who have earned all-conference honors in their careers, with all five gaining recognition every season of their careers. Those players include three-time All-Atlantic 10 honoree Steph Pasquale (at Temple), two-time All-Big Ten selections Alicia Armstrong and Emily Lockman and 2014 freshmen honorees MJ Knighten (All-Big Ten) and Cassie McClure (All-Big 12 at Texas Tech). Senior Steph Pasquale was one of 50 players nationally named to the preseason USA Softball Player of the Year watch list. She was one of 12 players nationally named to both the 2014 and 2015 watch lists. Nebraska s captains this spring are juniors Alicia Armstrong, Mattie Fowler and Kiki Stokes. Fowler is in her third season as a Husker captain, while Armstrong and Stokes are serving as captains for the first time. Sophomore Austen Urness will miss the 2015 season after undergoing knee surgery last fall. Urness, who also battled injuries in 2014, started 38 games last year and hit.274 with six doubles, four homers and 22 RBIs. Rhonda Revelle is in her 23rd season leading her alma mater in Revelle is the longest serving women s head coach in the history of Nebraska Athletics. Revelle owns 855 wins at Nebraska. She is the all-time wins leader in the history of Husker Athletics. Associate Head Coach Lori Sippel is in her 26th year at Nebraska. Sippel is the longest-tenured female assistant coach in the history of Nebraska Athletics. Revelle ( ) and Sippel ( ) also played for Nebraska. Counting their time as both a player and coach, Revelle and Sippel have been a part of 1,159 of Nebraska s 1,336 all-time victories (87 percent). Assistant coach Diane Miller rounds out the Husker coaching staff. In her seventh season, Miller has helped Nebraska s offense set more than 20 school records. Revelle, Sippel and Miller were named the Midwest Region Coaching Staff of the Year in 2013 and NU is celebrating its 40th anniversary season in The Huskers shared the Big Ten regular-season championship with Michigan in 2014, Nebraska s 19th conference championship. 3 3 HOME SWEET HOME Nebraska opened its home season on March 11 with a 10-1, run-rule victory over UNO. The Huskers, who won their home opener for the 10th consecutive season, have enjoyed tremendous recent success at Bowlin Stadium. The Huskers have won 11 consecutive home games, the longest home winning streak of any Big Ten team. Nebraska has won 10 consecutive Big Ten Conference home games, the longest streak in the league. Nebraska has swept three consecutive home Big Ten series (Iowa, Ohio State and Indiana in 2014). NU has posted a 28-5 record in home conference games since joining the Big Ten (2012-present). That record ranks second in the league behind Michigan (32-5). Nebraska has won 11 of its 12 home conference series since joining the Big Ten (2012-present). NU has posted a 37-8 home record (.822) since Overall, Nebraska boasts a record at Bowlin Stadium, good for a.734 winning percentage. The Husker pitching staff has been tremendous at home the past five seasons. Since 2011, Nebraska boasts a 1.67 ERA in 69 games at Bowlin Stadium. The Huskers lost their top three statistical hitters from the 2014 lineup, a group that included a pair of two-time All-Americans and Nebraska s only three all-region hitters. Despite the losses, the Husker offense is enjoying a better start to the season than last year s decorated group. Entering play this week, NU ranked second in the Big Ten in average (.348) and third in slugging percentage (.500), on-base percentage (.431) and runs per game (6.6). Nebraska s batting average is.076 higher this season than it was through 24 games last season. The Huskers have scored 57 more runs through 24 games this season than they did a year ago, while averaging 2.4 more runs per game. The 2014 offense set a school record for RBIs. That offense produced 86 RBIs in its first 24 games, while this year s lineup has totaled 147 RBIs in its 24 games. The 2014 offense set a school record for extra-base hits. Fowler picked up her 100th career hit against the Broncos, joining Stokes, Alicia Armstrong and Steph Pasquale as Huskers with 100 career hits. Stokes scored the 100th run of her career against Boise State, becoming the only current Husker with 100 career runs scored. STOKES DOING IT ALL Junior Kiki Stokes has collected hits, drawn walks, scored runs, hit homers, stolen bases and produced RBIs as Nebraska s leadoff hitter for all 24 games this season. Stokes leads Nebraska in average (.444), hits (32), runs (29), doubles (6), home runs (6), stolen bases (7), RBIs (23), walks, (13), total bases (58), slugging percentage (.806) and on-base percentage (.549). Stokes ranks second on the team in triples (1) and hitby-pitches (5). Stokes is third in the Big Ten in runs scored and on-base percentage, fourth in average and slugging percentage and sixth in home runs and total bases. Stokes is threatening to become the first Husker since Ali Viola in 1998 to hit.400 in a season. Stokes is currently on pace to challenge Tobin Echo- Hawk s record batting average of.439 in In a 56-game regular season, Stokes is on pace to score 68 runs, which would break Tobin Echo-Hawk s record of 61 runs scored in In a 56-game regular season, Stokes is on pace to finish with 75 hits, a total that would rank sixth in school history. Stokes six home runs are a career high. She has homered six times in 24 games this season after producing six home runs in 122 career games entering this spring. 5 5 KNIGHTEN POSTS BIG WEEK Sophomore MJ Knighten produced big numbers in helping Nebraska to a 4-1 record last week. Knighten was especially good in her return to home state for the Easton Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. Knighten went 9-for-17 (.529) last week with six runs, two doubles, two homers and nine RBIs. Knighten produced nine RBIs herself, while Nebraska s five opponents combined for only 11 RBIs. Knighten produced three multi-hit efforts, including a pair of perfect days. Knighten went 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and a run scored against UNO on March 11. Two days later, she went 3-for-3 with a double, two home runs, three runs scored and five RBIs against Charleston Southern. Over that time frame, Revelle has produced the second-highest total of academic All-Americans of any coach in the country. 7 WOMEN S COLLEGE WORLD SERIES Nebraska has advanced to the Women s College World Series seven times to rank 11th in NCAA history. 3 TOP-10 ATTENDANCE SEASONS In the 13 seasons NU has called Bowlin Stadium home, Nebraska has ranked in the top 10 nationally in attendance three times, while finishing in the top 25 in 12 of 13 seasons. In 2014, the Huskers averaged a school-record 965 fans per game to rank 18th nationally. Pasquale has produced 19 hits in 19 games at Nebraska after totaling 189 hits in 161 games at Temple. Pasquale, who averages more than one hit per game in her career, owns 208 career hits, a total that ranks 26th among all active Division I players. HUSKERS BEAT FIRST RANKED TEAM Nebraska earned its first victory over a ranked opponent when the Huskers upset No. 10 Tennessee, 5-2, on Feb. 21. Junior Kiki Stokes homered twice and drove in three runs in the victory, with junior Emily Lockman earning the win and sophomore Cassie McClure picking up the save. Nebraska is 1-4 vs. ranked teams this season, including a 1-2 mark against top-10 opponents. With her win over Tennessee, Lockman earned her fourth career victory over a top-10 team and her sixth career win vs. a ranked foe. REVELLE EARNS 850th VICTORY Nebraska defeated South Dakota, 8-3, on March 8 to give head coach Rhonda Revelle her 850th victory at Nebraska. The victory came in Revelle s 1,300th game as Nebraska s head coach. As Nebraska s all-time wins leader across all sports, Revelle is the only coach to record 850 victories as a Husker. STOKES NAMED BIG TEN PLAYER OF THE WEEK Junior Kiki Stokes produced a big opening weekend, and she was honored for her performance by being named the Big Ten Player of the Week on Feb. 9. It was the first career weekly honor for the Olathe, Kan., native. Stokes hit.650 in five games the opening weekend, going 13-for-20 at the plate with one double, two home runs and 10 RBIs out of the leadoff spot in the Husker order. She posted a slugging percentage and reached base at a.682 clip. Stokes hit safely in all five games, including four multihit efforts. She also scored a run in every game, scoring multiple runs in four contests. Stokes had three games with multiple RBIs. Stokes hit home runs in back-to-back games for the first time in her career (New Mexico State and Montana). Stokes hit her first career grand slam against Montana, when she finished with a career-high four RBIs. Stokes set a career high with four hits against Texas Tech as part of a 4-for-4 day that also included a walk. Stokes final hit against UTSA was her 100th career hit. The no-hitter was the 37th in program history. The no-hitter occurred in the third game of the season, making it the second-earliest no-hitter in school history. It was only the second combined no-hitter in Nebraska history and the first since All-Americans Leigh Ann Walker and Jenny Voss combined on a seven-inning nohitter against Kansas on May 13, Despite throwing a no-hitter, Nebraska allowed four runs (two earned). The Grizzlies scored twice on RBI ground outs and twice on wild pitches. Although not a solo effort, Jablonski became just the sixth Husker freshman pitcher to be involved in a no-hitter. HUSKERS HOPE FOR POTENT BATTERY Nebraska has featured an All-America battery each of the last two seasons, highlighted by two-time All-America pitcher Tatum Edwards and her twin sister Taylor, the 2014 Division I Catcher of the Year and a two-time All- American. On paper, NU boasted one of the nation s top batteries entering this season. Junior right-hander Emily Lockman returned after earning first-team all-region honors in 2013 and Senior Steph Pasquale was a third-team All-America catcher at Temple in 2013, and she is also a two-time, first-team all-region performer. Lockman owns seven victories over ranked opponents in her career, including a victory over No. 10 Tennessee this season. As a freshman, Lockman earned a completegame victory at No. 3 Oregon in the NCAA Super Regional championship game. As a sophomore, she earned the win at No. 14 Missouri in the 2014 NCAA Regional final. Lockman is one of only four pitchers nationally who earned first-team all-region recognition in both 2013 and Lockman joins James Madison s Jailyn Ford as the only juniors among that quartet. Lockman is the fourth NU pitcher to enter her junior year as a two-time all-conference honoree, and the previous three all ended their careers as All-Americans. Lockman s 1.93 career ERA entering 2015 ranked 22nd nationally among all 2015 pitchers who had thrown at least innings. Among pitchers from a Power Five conference (ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12, SEC), Lockman s ERA was the fourth-lowest. PASQUALE AMONG NATION S TOP HITTERS Senior Steph Pasquale has been one of the nation s most productive hitters in her career. Pasquale starred at Temple from 2011 to 2015, missing all but 12 games last season. She earned a medical hardship for the 2014 season and was granted a fifth year of eligibility. Pasquale transferred to Nebraska after Temple cut softball. At Temple, Pasquale was a three-time all-conference performer, a two-time all-region selection and a 2013 third-team All-American. Pasquale was named to both the 2014 and 2015 USA Softball Player of the Year Watch List. She was one of 12 players nationally named to both the 2014 and 2015 watch lists. In her last full season in 2013, Pasquale batted.465 with 21 doubles, 15 homers and 80 RBIs. She led the nation in RBIs per game and was also the nation s toughest player to strike out, fanning only three times in 209 plate appearances (187 at bats). In her career, Armstrong has totaled 32 multi-hit games, including 13 three-hit efforts. Armstrong is 1 of 9 players in school history to produce 100 career hits before their junior season. Armstrong is 1 of 5 players in school history to total at least 55 hits as both a freshman and a sophomore. Armstrong s 117 hits were the sixth-most any Husker had recorded entering her junior season. SCOUTING MICHIGAN STATE (15-12) Michigan State enters Big Ten Conference play with a overall record. The Spartans went 3-2 last week at the Mercer Tournament, defeating Alabama A&M twice and Youngstown State once, while falling twice to Mercer. MSU lost its final six Big Ten games last season, including a three-game Nebraska sweep in East Lansing. Offensively, Michigan State is batting.262 as a team while averaging 4.0 runs per game. The Spartans scored a season-high 12 runs in their last game against Alabama A&M. MSU has also stolen 37 bases in only 40 attempts.
