6 Players to Watch: Mitch Coughlin: After cementing himself as the closer at the end of the season, Mitch looks to headline the pitching staff this season. Boasting high velocity, dangerous movement, and complete control, Mitch looks to build off of last seasons success and be one of the leaders of the team. Michael Kress: Over four season Kress has been the anchor of the infield with only a few errors, and many incredible plays. This season Kress looks to continue leading the team as a fielder, but his biggest impact may just be his bat towards the start of the lineup as Kress boasts one of the best all-time batting averages to ever come through Utah State. Braxton Jensen: After transferring from Williston State College, Braxton looks to be a key part of the lineup this season as he grinds out base-hits left and right (literally and figuratively). Braxton has perhaps the best glove and arm on the infield (although Michael Kress would contend that), his skills have opened up many options for us to be able to utilize the skills of other players as he doesn't have a weak spot in any of the infield positions that he plays. Drake Baumert: After being an integral part of our outfield in the season, Drake has established himself as one of the team leaders both on and off the field as he is taking his second season as Club President in full stride. Drake has demonstrated exceptional skills as a catcher, and as a power hitter and looks to use his baseball IQ to guide our pitching staff throughout this season. Alex Munns: Being a starter for 5 straight seasons is a tough task to expect from any player, but that is exctly what Munns is hoping to accomplish this season. With several All-Conference awards in his first three seasons, Munns looks to rebound from a season which left his awards shelf empty. Munns is the anchor of the outfield, with incredible baseball IQ, speed, and the ability to make astonishing reads, Munns looks to continue putting on a clinic in the outfield. With an impressive fall season, and great work-ethic in the off-season, Munns is ready and able to guide this team with his talented bat, glove, and leadership this season. 7 2019 Season Outlook: The outlook for the season couldn't be higher at Utah State. With 17 returning players we look to use our leadership and experience throughout Conference and Post-Season. We bring back our #1, and #2 starters from last season, but perhaps the biggest piece of our puzzle is the re-utilization of Mitch Coughlin as he has demonstrated the ability to command games and win, it will be a fight for our #1 starting pitcher position. We add several strong gloves, bats, and arms with the new additions to this years team. We aren't rebuilding this year, we have already reloaded, and we are ready to compete with the best teams in the nation. Although only five players are listed in the Players to Watch section I could have easily could have added 10 more players. Coming from a player from a National Championship team, I have to say that this year is the most talent I have seen on one Utah State roster. The depth and talent on this team is going to be able to compete with any team in the country.
