1 PITTSBURGH PIRATES (3-5) vs. BOSTON RED SOX (4-4) APRIL 13, 2017 at Fenway Park, BOSTON, MA --- GAME #9/ROAD #3 RHP CHAD KUHL (1-0, 3.60 ERA) vs. LHP EDUARDO RODRIGUEZ (0-1, 7.20 ERA) THE PIRATES...arrived in Boston this morning at 12:50 after losing a 9-2 decision to the Reds in Pittsburgh Wednesday night...lost three straight to Cincinnati after sweeping the Braves over the weekend at PNC Park...Began the season with a 5-3 loss to the Red Sox in Boston on 4/3...Also suffered a 3-0 loss in 12 innings at Fenway Park on 4/5 before being rained out last Thursday afternoon...had a 5-3 record after eight games last season (5-4 after nine). ROAD TRIP BEGINS: Today s tilt with the Bosox marks the beginning of a seven-game, three-city road trip for the Pirates... The trip also includes three games against the Cubs in Chicago beginning tomorrow afternoon and concludes with three in St. Louis beginning Monday night...pittsburgh posted a record away from home last season. KUHL RUNNINGS: RHP Chad Kuhl is making his second start of the season today after winning his season debut Saturday night vs. Atlanta...Pittsburgh s ninth-round pick in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, Kuhl made his Major League debut with the Pirates last year during a nationally-televised ESPN broadcast on 6/26 and won a 4-3 decision over Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers...He won his first three big league decisions and the Bucs were victorious in each of his first six starts. YOU ALWAYS REMEMBER YOUR FIRST: Bucco backstop Chris Stewart made his Major League debut at Fenway Park while playing with the White Sox on 9/6/10...He pinch-hit for Jim Thome and grounded out in his only at bat that day. GOLDEN BOYS: Not only did Andrew McCutchen and Baltimore s Adam Jones collectively earn Gold Medals with Team USA at the World Baseball Classic this past March, but the two players are also tied for first among all Major League outfielders in hits since the start of the 2010 season...mccutchen has collected his 1182 hits in 1076 games; Jones doing so in 1063 games. HISTORY TRIP: After playing in Major League Baseball s oldest ballpark today, 105-year-old Fenway Park, the Pirates will be playing in 103-year-old Wrigley Field tomorrow afternoon...aside from the Red Sox and Cubs, only three other clubs have played games in back-to-back days in both historic venues; the Braves last year on April 28-29, the Brewers in 2011 on June and the Phillies in 1998 on June (courtesy Elias Sports Bureau).
