Why I chose Cal: I chose to come to Cal because it was a chance for me to play the best collegiate softball in the country with the best players in the country. I also came because the academics here, like the softball team, are second to none. My favorite class at Cal: My favorite or most interesting class at Cal has been ESPM 44 (Biological Control), which also had my favorite professor, Prof. Nicholas Mills. 3 Erika 13 RACKLIN OF Senior Bats: S Throws: R Pittsburg, Calif. Berean Christian HS basketball for four seasons. Personal: Sociology major... parents are Eric Racklin and Kim Brown... father played football at Tulane... enjoys reading, shopping and watching SpongeBob Square- Pants. Why I chose Cal: I wanted to go to a great university with great athletic and academic programs, and that is still close to home so I can wash my clothes and eat dinner for free. My favorite instructor: My favorite has been Prof. Richard Muller for Physics 10. He was really nice and energetic; he made every class interesting and had different experiments to explain what we were learning that day. He took the time to get to know each student. 2007: Produced her best season in a Cal uniform after hitting.280 with 18 stolen bases both career-highs... scored 16 runs from Mar also had seven multi-hit games in that span... had a stolen base and scored the game s first run in the 2-0 win over UC Santa Barbara (2/10)... went 3-for-3 with two runs vs. Maryland (2/ 25)... hit.348 for the week Feb. 28-Mar. 4 with seven runs, three RBI and a triple... was a productive 3-for-5 with three runs, two RBI and a stolen base vs. Santa Clara (2/ 28)... went 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI vs. Delaware State (3/2)... tallied two hits with a pair of runs at UNLV (3/3)... hit.400 with five runs scored, Mar went 2- for-3 with a pair of runs vs. Northern Iowa (3/ 11)... went 3-for-5 with five runs scored vs. Baylor (3/14)... went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs vs. Nevada (3/17)... hit.500 at the Women 4 Women Softball Invitational (Mar )... went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI vs. Michigan (3/23)... recorded three hits with three runs and two stolen bases vs. Liberty (3/23)... had two hits and a run vs. UCLA (4/22)... went 3-for-3 vs. Arizona with a stolen base (4/27)... tripled with an RBI and a run scored at UCLA (5/4)... scored a run vs. Florida State in the Tuscaloosa Regional (5/18). 2006: Led Cal in stolen bases last season with 10, scored 18 runs and posted a.958 fielding percentage... saw action in 56 games (including 15 starts in center field)... appeared as a pinchrunner 35 times... scored four runs against Oklahoma State (2/10)... touched home twice against UNLV (2/19)... started the season with a three-game hitting streak against Oklahoma State, Cal Poly and UC Santa Barbara (Feb ). 2005: Saw action in 47 games, primarily as a pinch runner her 16 steals were tied for second on Cal s squad with Lindsay James (sixth Pac-10) made four starts in right field and collected first collegiate hit against Michigan State (2/20). 5 JUNIORS Gina 45 LEOMITI OF Junior San Diego, Calif. Mira Mesa HS 2007: The sophomore enjoyed a highly successful 2007 campaign, and produced a team-high.354 batting average, with 25 runs, 11 doubles, five home runs, 30 RBI, a.544 slugging percentage and a fielding percentage - all are personal-bests for a singleseason - in just 57 games played... earned Pac-10 honorable mention recognition... had a seven-game hitting streak from Mar. 9-Mar. 14 and a five game hit streak from Mar owned a six-game hitting streak (Apr )... had at least one hit in 26 of her last 39 games... came up with the season s first big hit when her two-out double in the second inning scored three runs in Cal s 8-0 victory over Kansas (2/9)... had a solid game vs. Delaware State (3/ 2) with three hits, two RBI and a run scored... scored three runs vs. UConn (3/9)... went 4-for-5 with three runs and an RBI vs. Iowa State (3/10)... hit.500 at the Bank of Hawaii Invitational (Mar )... collected three hits with an RBI vs. Baylor (3/14)... went 3- for-4 with two runs and two RBI vs. Nevada (3/17)... had a double, run, and RBI vs. Liberty (3/23)... belted a three-run home run in the first inning at Oregon State (3/31)... walked twice and scored two runs vs. Stanford (4/6)... doubled and drove in a run vs. the Cardinal (4/7)... went 2-for-4 with a home run in G1 at UC Davis (4/25)... went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run at Washington (5/5)... singled, doubled and scored vs. Oregon (5/12)... went 4-for-5 with a home run and four RBI vs. Florida State in the Tuscaloosa Regional (5/18). 2006: Stepped up in clutch situations at the plate in her freshman year at Cal... My favorite instructor at Cal: I have had the opportunity to take Linguistics 1A with Prof. Sam Mchombo. The course was based on learning the Swahili language. Prof. Mchombo was always full of enthusiasm and excitement. He made learning fun, in which I feel is very important. He makes sure to involve each student in every lecture, to make Swahili easier to understand, while at the same time making each student feel comfortable while speaking in front of the class. I will be following up Linguistics 1A with linguistics 1B in the spring and can t wait. LEOMITI S CAREER STATISTICS Total

Deer Valley HS 2007: Redshirt. 2006: Made 10 appearances for the Bears in 2006, primarily as a pinch-hitter... registered a base hit against Mississippi Valley State (2/6) and had two RBI and a run versus North Dakota State (3/12). SOPHOMORES Marissa 11 DREWREY P Sophomore Oakdale, Calif. /Oakdale HS 2007: Finished her freshman campaign with an 11-8 record with three saves posted a 4.36 ERA and 71 strikeouts... despite suffering the loss to UMass (2/10), impressive in her first collegiate start, allowing just one run on two hits with a strikeout in six innings of work... went 3-1 from Feb picked up the win after allowing one run on four hits in 3.2 innings of work vs. Maryland (2/25)... compiled a 2-0 record with a 2.00 ERA from Mar allowed one run on four hits in six innings of work for her seventh victory of the season vs. Iowa State (3/11)... recorded a solid outing for her eighth win of the season (nine hits, one run, four strikeouts) vs. Nevada (3/16)... registered a season-high six strikeouts to help Cal defeat Nevada for a second straight time (3/17)... had the best outing of her career (4/28) when she pitched her first career complete game, a three-hit shutout in Cal s 1-0 win over No. 7 Arizona State (ASU had the 3rd best offense in the league)... picked up her second save of the season after striking out three ASU batters in 1.2 innings of work on Apr registered her third save of the season, allowing one hit in 2.0 innings at UCLA on May 4... collected the win at Washington after allowing one run on five hits in five innings of work (5/5)... saw action in the Tuscaloosa Regional (May 18-20) and had three strikeouts in 1.2 innings of work vs. Florida State (5/ 18). High School: Helped lead Oakdale HS to Division III Section titles in 2005 and selected the Modesto Player of the Year as a junior and a senior... voted league MVP three times... selected team MVP from finished her high school career with 0.14 ERA and 1,004 strikeouts. Why I chose Cal: I chose Cal because I will not only be getting one of the best educations from the No. 1 public university in the country, but I also have the opportunity to play for a top Pac-10 softball program. And another plus, I m only an hour and a half from home. My favorite class at Cal: Education 52 (Understanding Language in Society) has been the most interesting class so far. It covered many topics beyond the basics, with a lot of emphasis on diversity in our society, which is definitely what Cal is all about. letters all four years in field hockey and softball... member of the National Honor Society... played for the New Jersey Breaker club team. Personal: Undeclared major parents are Patricia and Richard Houston has one sibling, Abbey. Why I chose Cal: I chose Cal because I don t think there is a better place in the country to come to school whether it is for sports or academics. The softball program is more than competitive and the school academically cannot be beat. The weather lets you train outside all year and the city (San Francisco) is close by so there is plenty to do. Cal is a one of a kind school and from every aspect it is a great school. My favorite class at Cal: Since attending Cal my favorite class has been American Studies 10. This class talked mostly about food in society and how food truly impacts our lives besides as a necessity. The information we learned was not like any other class I had taken before. The information we learned couldn t be taken out of just one text book and I truly learned a lot from the class. My favorite instructor: My favorite instructor since attending Cal has been Professor Moran of American Studies 10. She was my favorite because she taught by showing movie clips to prove her points and made class interesting and things you wanted to watch rather then fall asleep. Shannon 4 HOUSTON OF Sophomore New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt HS 2007: Used primarily used as a pinch runner, scored 22 runs in finished 12- for-16 in stolen bases... had two stolen bases with a run scored at San Diego State (2/9)... recorded three stolen bases and went 1-for-1 with three runs and two RBI vs. Florida International (2/18)... scored a run vs. Ohio State (2/24) and went 1-for-1 vs. Maryland (Feb. 25)... produced a.375 batting average with four runs and three RBI from Mar went 2-for- 4 with a run and two RBI including a key hit which unlocked a 5-5 tie to score Bernice Masaniai and Gina Leomiti in the win vs. Iowa State (3/10)... had a stolen base and a run vs. Liberty (3/23)... scored runs against Stanford (4/7) and UCLA (4/22) in Pac-10 play. High School: Selected the 2006 South Jersey Player of the Year... led New Egypt HS to the 2006 state championship... chosen to the all-state team... set a team record with 30 stolen bases as a senior... won two state championships senior year in field hockey and softball... 8 Taylor 23 KELLY IF Sophomore Santee, Calif./Santana HS 2007: Played in 51 games in her first season and produced five stolen bases, 17 runs and 15 RBI... tallied two hits with an RBI and a run scored vs. Kansas (2/9)... went 2-for- 3 with a double and RBI vs. Utah State on Feb went 1-for- 3 with a run and RBI vs. Santa Clara on Feb had her best game of the season by going 4-for-5 with five RBI vs. UConn on Mar scored two runs vs. Eastern Illinois on Mar scored a run vs. Nevada on Mar tripled and scored a run scored vs. Arizona State (4/29)... scored two runs vs. Florida State in the Tuscaloosa Regional on May 18. High School: Selected league Player of the Year as a senior... led Santana HS to a 2005 league title... Personal: Intended psychology major enjoys singing songs by Cher parents are Cindy and Robert Kelly. Why I chose Cal: Attending the University of California, Berkeley has been a goal of mine since I was young. I remember the day I started playing travel ball my coach and inspiration, Chris Facione (who also attended Cal), told me that he was going to help me achieve this dream of mine. I grew up hearing stories about Cal and how great it was to not only go to school with amazing athletes but also meet very intelligent individuals. When I came on my visit to Berkeley I knew, the moment I walked down Telegraph, that this is where I belonged. Receiving the opportunity to attend Cal and play softball for the Golden Bears is something that I have been working for my entire life. Now, I am excited to KELLY S CAREER STATISTICS CALIFORNIA Golden Bears continue reaching for goals, not only as a team, but as a family. My favorite class at Cal: My favorite class so far at Cal has been Psychology 1. I think that it is interesting hearing about what goes on inside your brain and what triggers what emotions. My favorite instructor: Prof. John Kihlstrom in the psychology department. Not only was he a very intelligent and serious looking guy, he would always make us laugh to make us feel comfortable while learning a lot of information. Brittany 00 LaROSA P Sophomore Diamond Bar, Calif./ Diamond Bar HS 2007: Finished the 2007 season with a 5-8 record and two shutouts... in her collegiate debut vs. Kansas (2/9), allowed just two hits in five innings of work for her first complete game shutout... scattered four hits in seven innings for her second win and shutout vs. UCSB (2/10)... from Feb (6.1 innings pitched) gave up just one run on two hits and two strikeouts... collected the win vs. Delaware State (3/2) after recording a season-high six strikeouts... pitched the first three innings and gave up just one hit at UNLV (3/3)... collected her first career save in Cal s 3-2 win over Loyola- Chicago (3/7), allowing just one hit with a pair of strikeouts in three innings of work... didn t allow a run or a hit in 3.2 innings of work to collect the win at UC Davis (G2, 4/25)... also saw action in the Tuscaloosa Regional (May 18-20). High School: The No. 2-ranked pitcher in the nation by Rivals.com in earned first-team all-league honors four times and was a four-time Sierra League MVP... also chosen first-team all-state, first-team All- Inland Valley and first team all-area four straight years... a member of the Los Angeles all-region squad in both 2003 and named the Los Angeles Times all-region MVP in as a senior, had her jersey retired by Diamond Bar HS... played for the Corona Angels U18 Gold... was club teammate of Cal sophomore Christina Schallig. I knew exactly what I wanted and Cal could give that to me. Cal will allow me to earn a great education that I will be proud of for the rest of my life and also have a chance to be part of a great softball legacy with Coach Ninemire. My favorite class at Cal: I have enjoyed all my classes here at Berkeley. If I would have to pick one that I have enjoyed the most, it was Ed 75. It was a sports orientated class. It brought to light different views on sports.
