5 General Information By signing up and entering the OVO Energy Tour Ride supporting Breast Cancer Care the participant confirms that they are medically fit to do so, have undertaken sufficient preparation and training to complete their chosen distance and have a suitably equipped and maintained bicycle for the event. All route maps for the event and GPX files can be found on We recommend completing at least one training ride. Prior to the event Make sure you have read the Rider Manual and know where and when you need to be on the day of The Tour Ride. Book any accommodation needed for the Saturday evening. Keep well hydrated in the days ahead of the event. Avoid any late changes of equipment or materials, such as adjusting your saddle height. The day before the event Have a short ride the day before, around 1 hour in duration. Have your bike and kit prepared, ensuring your bike is clean and in good working order. Organise any spares and equipment you will need for all eventualities and weather conditions. Check the weather conditions for the day of the ride and prepare accordingly. Avoid eating too late and overeating to avoid any stomach discomfort. Aim for at least 8-10 hours sleep. The more you are prepared the evening before, the more stress free and enjoyable the morning of the ride will be! The morning of the event Allow plenty of time to travel and park, especially if you need to collect your rider pack. Double check your bike in case anything has been knocked during your journey. Eat a substantial breakfast around 2 hours prior to your start time, including low GI carbs to help maintain energy levels. Keep wrapped up and stay warm prior to the start, it can be chilly early in the morning even in July. Make sure you have a jacket or gilet with you, even on a cloudless day the weather conditions can change and a top will come in handy should you, or someone you are with has a puncture or mechanical. Double check your pockets and make sure you have your phone, and any spares such as inner tubes, track pump and energy gels or bars for the early part of the ride. Prioritise hydration levels from waking up until around 1 hour before the start, but don t consume large quantities of fluid in the last 45 mins, instead taking small sips to keep fluid levels topped up. During the ride Avoid long stops (no more than mins) and getting cold when stopped, as prolonged stops result in muscle stiffness. Avoid the temptation to be with faster riders at the start, as it s a long ride ahead. Stick to your own pace to avoid fading in the closing sections of the ride. Aim to eat and drink continuously throughout OVO Energy Tour Ride, aiming for 20-30g of carbs (1 gel or bar) in each hour, along with 500ml of fluid per hour of your ride. Keep a constant rhythm for the duration of the OVO Energy Tour Ride and avoid going too hard on the longer climbs.

6 General Information Riding standards and behaviour In entering the OVO Energy Tour Ride the participant agrees to obey the Highway Code and any instructions given to them by organisers or marshals. Participants also understand accept the following: Cyclo sportives are non-competitive events and should in no way be ridden in a competitive manner. Helmets are mandatory for all participants. All efforts are made by the organisers to ensure that the participants receive the support as promoted with the event entry. However all participants should ensure they ride in a self-sufficient manner (e.g. taking their own food, money and means of navigation and communication to cover unforeseen circumstances that may leave them without the aforementioned support). Junior riders Junior riders are deemed to be any rider under the age of 18-years on the day of the event. No parental responsibility attaches to the organisers at any time. Mechanical information To maximise your enjoyment and safety it s important that you have a suitable bike and that it is in good running order. As with any ride make sure that you have the essentials such as a spare inner tube, pump and puncture repair kit with you, and you know how to fix a puncture on your bike. Support will be provided by Brother Neutral service cars throughout the day along both routes along with mechanical support at feed stations. First aid For cuts and grazes, basic first aid kits will be located at the feed stations. Paramedic first responders will be based at the Start/Finish and patrol the route, and will assist you if needed. Additional first aid services will be located at the Start and Finish. Any rider requiring emergency medical support should call 999 as a first response. If you need to contact ride control at any point you will find the phone number printed on your rider number. Cut-off times All riders are required to cross the finish line at Queens Road by 17:30. Any riders finishing after this point may not receive a finish time. The finish line will be closed at 17:30 promptly. Riders are advised that the feed stations will close at 12:30 and 14:30 respectively and riders should aim to reach the feed station locations well in advance of these times. Support vehicles will patrol the routes and will be able to transfer any riders unable to finish back to Southwold along with their bike. Food and drink Both feed stations will be well stocked with products from HIGH5 and Soreen and water to fill up bottles. Riders are asked to think of others and only take the food that you need to complete the ride.

7 General Information There will be three feed stations on the 80 mile route, and one feed station on the 30 mile route. Toilets will be provided at all feed stations. Riders are asked to use the bins provided at feed stations to dispose of litter and to consider the surrounding local community.
