2 E-Learning Module Description [E- LEARNING MODULE DESCRIPTION] 2 Course Description: In this course students, which can include novice or beginner cyclists, will be able to learn the basics of cycling. This course will give students the knowledge to identify the different parts of a bike. Lessons will include tutorials on being able to change a flat tires. Students will also be given an overview on the proper nutrition and the steps required to make a commitment to become fit. An important part of this e-learning course will be learning the rules of the road in order to maintain a safe ride each time they go on the road. Finally, students will need to demonstrate their ability to ride on an open road observing all the rules and wearing all proper cycling gear. Instructional Goal: Students who successfully complete this e-learning course will be able to identify the parts of a bike, learn the significance of good nutrition and fitness and the importance of road safety while cycling. Course Objectives: Sub Goal 1: Students will complete a diagram of the different parts of a bike and describe how each part works. Students will also demonstrate how to fix a flat tire. After completing this module students will. Demonstrate their knowledge by completing a diagram of the different parts of a bike. Describe how each part of the bike works. Demonstrate how to fix a flat tire Sub Goal 2: Students will be able to recognize what they need to do to commit to be fit. After completing this module students will. Recognize the parts of the human muscular system. Identify the significance of nutrition and energy for a healthy cycling regimen. Begin an online blog to share their experiences with their peers and instructor.
3 [E- LEARNING MODULE DESCRIPTION] 3 Sub Goal 3: Students will learn about nutrition and fitness and how they can make wise food choices to help maintain a healthy weight. After completing this module students will Identify the parts of the food pyramid. Recognize portioned food intake to maintain a healthy weight. Compose a food diary and share via their online blog. Sub Goal 4: Students will learn the significance of cycling safety and it s cycling gear. After completing this module students will Recognize the importance of cycling safety and observing the rules of the road. Identify the required safety cycling equipment. Be evaluated on bike safety and cycling gear. Demonstrate their ability to ride on the open road. Required Text(s): This e-learning course will be taught completely online. All materials such as video tutorials, PowerPoint presentations and all reading material will be provided by the instructor of this course. All students are required to have Internet access in order to access the video tutorials, which will be uploaded to screencast.com. Adobe reader will also be required in order to view all the reading material. Students will need to have the following cycling gear: Road Bike Safety Helmet Gloves Water Bottles Cycling Shoes Glasses (optional) Bike Computer Sun Block (optional) Cycling Gear is required for this course.
4 [E- LEARNING MODULE DESCRIPTION] 4 Assignments: Coursework for this e-learning course will include: PowerPoint presentations, Worksheets, Video Tutorials and blog entries. Students will need to maintain their blog and post their experiences while performing their cycling assignments and while performing assignments such as fixing a flat tire. This will need to be submitted as videos and uploaded to their blogs. Students will also need to maintain a food diary and write about their weigh loss experience during the duration of this e-learning course. Students will be tested in their knowledge of cycling, fitness, nutrition and safety. Assessments will be online in the form of multiple choice and True/False questions. The final exam will consist of the student s ability to ride on the open road. Proficiency will need to be demonstrated by the student s ability to ride a 6-mile ride. In order to receive full credit students will need to submit a video of their 6-mile ride. All appropriate gear must be visible. Assignment Name Possible Points Lesson 1: What s in a bike? 5 [E- LEARNING MODULE DESCRIPTION] 5 Grading: Grading for this e-learning course includes quizzes for lessons 1, 2, and 3. Quizzes will be available online and will address the topics outlined in each lesson. The final exam will be part of lesson 4, which includes a ride in the open road. The assignments and blog entries will also be graded and will carry a large percentage of the final grade obtained for this e-learning course. The total points possible for this e-learning course is 775.
