1 How to use the DuPageMaps Interactive Web Mapping Application to locate a DuPage County Bikeway Interactive Map Link: Helpful Information: Bikeways Changes in Maps Scale: Due to the changes in scale, when you zoom in for very detailed bikeway information the data may not display accurately on our aerial photography (for example, a trail may appear on the wrong side of the street). If you find any errors or have any additional questions please Bikeways@dupageco.org NOTE: On-street bikeways (bicycle routes or lanes) are shown as located in the center of the roadway. (Please read\refer to Disclaimer of Warranty.) How to use DuPageMaps: After you open the DuPageMaps web mapping application click on "Proceed to DuPageMaps Web Site". Click on the red "Help" button, and then click on the red "How To Use Map" button. This will open or download a PDF document showing you how to use the application. Web Browsers: If you have popup blocker turned on certain functions in the web application will not operate properly. Computer \ Monitor: If you are using an older computer the initial map view maybe slow in loading to your screen. You may need to install or update older software on your computer to view the web application properly. Older monitors the data shown on your view screen may appear to overlap or not show up properly. Maximize the web application to take up your entire screen then the follow the instructions below to find a bikeway within DuPage County Illinois ipad and MAC users: The DuPageMaps web mapping application was developed in Adobe Flash. ***Please follow the directions below to find a bikeway in DuPage County, Illinois***

2 Initial View: (Open DuPageMaps) Click on Proceed to DuPageMaps Web Site. (Please read the Disclaimer before proceeding.) Find a Bikeway in DuPage County, Illinois: DuPageMaps Main Menu: A. Click on green "Map View" button. B. Next click on green "Preset Maps" button. * A menu will pop up on your view screen. (See image below.)

3 C. Check or click "ON" the "Use Preset Maps" check box. (See #1 red arrow below.) D. Click on the "Dupage County Bikeways" text. (See #2 red arrow above.) *All the DuPage County bikeways will appear on your view screen. Note: Make sure you have zoomed out to the full extent of DuPage County. If you zoomed in bikeways may not appear.

4 E. Next click on the blue "Navigation" button (See image below). Then click on the blue Zoom In button and zoom into a DuPage County bikeway. How to Zoom In: Click on Zoom In button. Then left mouse click on your view screen and hold down button, draw a box or window around bikeway or location, let go of mouse button. Your view will zoom into the box drawn on your view screen. Example: Zoomed into location Illinois Prairie Path in Milton Township. Identify: Note: In the next release this Identify tool will be expanded to show detailed information about the bikeway you have selected on screen. (Work in progress.)

5 A. Next click on the main menu magenta "Tools" button. (See image below.) B. Click on the magenta "Identify" button and select\identify a bikeway on your view screen. * After you select on screen a pop-up window will appear. Click on the " > " gray arrow in the pop-up window next to the DuPage Bikeway in MILTON text. This will open a drop down list showing you the Township and Range the bikeway you selected falls within. For a hard copy version of the Countywide Bikeway Map of DuPage County, please your street mailing address to: bikeways@dupageco.org Guide to Understanding the Bikeway Database: Data has been collected on bikeway segments and is recorded if available or applicable to an individual bikeway. Bikeways include: Off-road trails and paths (Path) On-street signed and striped bicycle lanes (Lane) On-street signed bicycle routes (Route) Unknown if proposed for future and yet to be determined OBJECTID STNAME FACNAME GIT SYSDES FROMREF TOREF STATUS FACTYPE SURFACE Is an internal generated number of no special significance for the public. Street associated with facility if applicable (usually entered for a Route or Lane) Trail or bikeway name if available. Designation of whether this trail is part of the Grand Illinois Trail (principally the IL Prairie Path Main Stem and Elgin Branch). For more information on the route of the Grand Illinois Trail see the GIT User Guide at Indicates whether bikeway segment is part of a larger countywide regional trail system such as the West Branch DuPage River Trail or Southern DuPage County Regional Trail. Origin point for bikeway segment if applicable Terminus point for bikeway segment if applicable Refers to current status of the bikeway ranging from Existing if constructed and open to Proposed if planned for the future Refers to the type of facility including a Path or off-road trail, bicycle Route, or bicycle Lane. This may be blank or listed as Unknown if the appropriate type of facility has yet to be determined. Type of surface includes hard surfaces such as Asphalt or Concrete (suitable for all users but most helpful to skaters and some users with mobility constraints), Aggregate for limestone or other screenings (suitable for all users but most helpful to equestrians, joggers and

7 walkers), and others (typical of more rustic paths in forest preserves). TOTWIDTH SORNAME Width in feet shown primarily for off-road paths and trails Primary data source for information which is typically the jurisdiction agency or the DuPage County Regional Planning Commission for bikeways appearing in the countywide plan prior to the 2008 update. Additional Help and Support: When you run the DuPageMaps interactive web mapping application you may need to upgrade Adobe Flash player on your workstation\laptop. If you skip the upgrade the application will not operate properly. Are you having technical problems? Is the error repeatable? If YES. Did you try to close and reopen of the web application and\or reboot your workstation? If YES. Did you turn OFF pop-up blocker in your web browser for our site? If YES.
