1 Devon & Cornwall Police Record 1 Freedom of Information Act Request No: /12 We are seeking the same information from every Police Authority and would like to know the number of road traffic accidents in which a mobile phone has been noted as playing a contributing role in the incident. Please provide details on an annual basis for the last three years available data. In your response please include: 1. The total number of road accidents for each year 2. The total number of mobile phone related accidents for each year Where possible for each mobile phone related accident please include: a) The date of each accident b) Location of accident, including road classification c) A brief description of the incident, including how many / type of s involved d) Information on the mobile phone s contributing role in the incident (I.e was driver phoning, texting at time, etc) e) Injuries sustained due to the accident f) Charges brought in relation to the accident The Performance and Analysis Department have provided the following information: 1. States Female Driver Was Using Mobile As She Drove. Moments Later D1 Drove Her Veh Into The Rear Of V4 Which Was Parked Correctly And Unattended, This In Turn Was Shunted Into V2, This In Turn Shunted Into V3. Yes Driver Of V1 Dic, Mobile Phone Rang And Whilst Eyes Off Road, Collided With Parked And Unattended V2. Veh 1 Driving Towards Junction, And Stopped To Allow Van (Unknown) To Turn Into Junction From Tregenna Place. Veh 1 Then Pulled Out Colliding With The Rear Of Veh 2, Knocking M'cyclist Off. Rider Of Veh 2 Has Stated That Driver Of Veh 1 Was On Yes

Veh1 (Tractor) Travelling Alon B Veh3 Travelling Behind Veh1 And Veh2 Behind Veh3 - Veh2 Has Attempted To Overtake Not Realising A Tractor (Veh1) Was In Front Of Veh3 - Veh1 Has Then Made A Right Turn Without Signalling Causing Veh2 To Take Evasive Action And Swerve Towards The Offside Kerb Striking A Raised Manhole Cover And Causing Damage - Driver Of Veh1 Believed To Be On Mobile Phone At Time Of Rtc. Vehicle Parked Opposite Painters Shop, Facing Towards Lynton In A Marked Parking Bay. Coach Passed The Parked Vehicle Colliding With Rear Nearside Quarter And Bumper Causing Scuffing. Vehicle Did Not Stop, And Was Alleged To Be On His Mobile Phone. V1 Travelling Westbound On Royal Parade, Approaches Pelican Crossing At This Road Junctions With Armada Way Pedestrian Precinct. The Red Lights Are Illumintated. V1 Comes To A Halt At Stop Line For Pelican Crossing And Waits For Several Peds To Cross, Elderly Female Ped Begins To Cross Fatal

Rp Was Unable To Identify Direction Of Travel But States He Was On Trinity Street In St Austell Held Up In A Line Of Traffic Approaching A Roundabout. V1 Drove In To The Rear Of His Stationary Vehicle. Rp Spoke To Young Female Driver Of Renault And States That She Was Holding A Mobile Phone In Her Hand With Both Hands On The Steering Wheel. Female Driver Said Her Steering Wheel Had Locked, Details Exchanged At Scene. V2 Entered Vue Cimema Car Park Intending To Drop Off O/S The Cinema. V1 Reversed Out O Parking Bay, V2 Sounded Horn But V1 Collided With V2 Causing Damage, D1

Veh2 Facing Towards Marshmills R/A In Lane 1 Is Clipped At The Rear By Veh1, Causing Damage To The Rear Offside. Veh3 Facing Towards Marshmills R/A On Slip Road In Lane 2 At Low Speed - Veh1 Rebounded Off Veh2 And Struck The Rear Of Veh3. Veh3 Was Knocked Sideways By The Force Of Impact And Rolled Over. Veh1 Drove Around Veh3 And Continued Onto Marshmills, Contravening Red T/Light. Veh1 Came To Veh1 Allegedly Hit Nearside Drain, Loosing Control, Spinning & Rolling On Its Roof Into A Ditch. Veh001 Was Being Driven Southbound Along The A39 From Winnards Perch Towards Trekenning Roundabout. Veh002 Was Travelling Same Distance Behind Veh001 In The Same Direction. A Pedal Cyclist Was Cycling Along The A39 In The Same Direction As Veh001 And Veh002. Veh001 Overtook/Passed The Cyclist And Then For No Apparent Reason Swerved Into The Nearside Verge Causing It To Roll. The Serious Fatal

Veh Trav From Woodbury To Clyst St George Driver Was Using Mobile Phone Drifted To Nearside Tried To Correct Position But Lost Control Causing His Vehicle To Roll Veh002 Left Secure And Unatteded In Car Park When Driver Returned To Vehicle Found Damage To Rear And A Note From A Witness With Vrm Of Offending Veh001 Which Had Driven Into Rear Of Veh002 Causing Damage, And Drove Off. Note Also Said The Female Driver Of The Off Veh001 Had Been Using Her Mobile Phone. Veh 2 Wayland Avenue At Junction With Matford Lane Intending To Turn Right. V1 Travelling Matford Lane Up To Road With Wayland Ave Jun On The N/S. D1 Allegeldly Using Mobile Phone And Not Paying Attention, V1 Seen To Veer From Side To Side. V1 Veered To N/S And Collided With Front Of V2. V001, Traveling Uphill, Failed To Negotiate A Left Hand Bend And Travelled Straight On, Colliding With A Wall. V001 Came To Rest

Vehicle 1 Was Travelling From St Austell To Truro As She Approached The Junction With Pencalenick The Vehicle Collided With Veh 2 Which Then Rolled Into Veh 3. The Driver Of Veh 1 Admits Liabilty And States Was Travelling At Same Speed As Rest Of The Traffic. This Was At Rush Hour On A Monday And Traffic Was Fairly Heavy. Pc Suggests That The Driver Of Veh 1 Was Distracted As There Was No Speeding Involved Due To The Traffic Flow And From Witness Accounts There Was No Obstructions Or Any Reason For Her To Vear Off The Main A390 Into Stationary Vehicles Should There Have Been Any Issues With The Vehicle The Driver Has Just Passed The Layby. Veh1 Travelling Behind Veh2, Veh1 Failed To Stop In Time Whilst Veh2 Was Maneouvering Into Space And Collided Into The Rear Of Veh2. Driver2 Alleges That Driver1 Using Mobile Phone. V2 Approaching Roundabout On Dawlish Road Away From Town. V1 Crossed Lanes And Collided With V2 On N/S Damaging Wing Mirror. Driver Of V1 Was Observed Using A Mobile Phone At The Time By 3 Witnesses In V2. Veh Lost Control And Skidded Into A Brick Wall And Railings Due To Tiredness Of Driver And Lack Of Concentration. V002 Had Turned Left Into The Road To Luxulyan From Lanlivery And Saw V001 Approach. V002 Stopped, Allowing Sufficient

Drv Had Been On Mobile Phone At Time/Immediately Prior To Rtc, But Drv States An Animal Had Ran Across Road. D2 States He Was Driving Along Station Road When V1 Pulled Out Suddenly From The Nearside Without Indicating And Collided With V2. D1 Appeared To Be Either Texting Or Rolling A Cigarette. He Stated 'Sorry About That, I Wasn't Paying Attention' He Also Stated He Did Not Know His Telephone Number Or Ins Details, But Gave His Address As 6 Lamb Park. This Does Not Correspond With Pnc Or Held Ins Details (As On Attached Prints On File) V1 Travelling South On A386 - Had Very Minor Contact Wiht Rear Mudguard Of V2 - Who Was Travelling North - - V1 Sustained Damage To Fosd Wing Mirror And For Unknown Reason Crossed On To Oppposite Side Of Road And Had A Head On Collision With V3 Who Was Travelling In The Fatal

Veh 1 Was Travelling South East Along An Road In Caradon Town, Pensilva. Vehi 1 Collided With A Grass Bank On The Nearside At Slow Speed And Rolled On To Its Offside. The Driver Of Veh 1 Was The Only Person Involved And Has Stated She Swerved To Avoid An Animal. The Driver Also Stated She Made A Phone Call Prior To The Collision And Read A Text Message Afterwards. Veh 1 Was Approximately 10 Or 20 Feet From Where It Started Its Journey.
