2 ABOUT THE EVENT Despite campaigns to educate road users on road safety, the death tolls on the roads are still on the rise. The promotion of safety on roads cannot be overemphasized. Of necessity, stakeholders need to be steps ahead when it comes to implementing road safety initiatives. With the world Cup fast approaching, gauging to what extent the strategies have been incorporated, and determining what still needs to be done will the objective of this indaba. It should outline the progress made in mitigating risks that were associated with the preparations, as well as, how challenges have been addressed. Another key aspect is to also include safety mechanisms in the rehabilitation of existing roads Fredrick Mwalusaka, Director, Road Safety and Traffic Agency Zambia 11:30-12:30 Case Study: Highlighting the implications of road safety initiatives in Namibia Road safety initiatives need to be included in road networks. This has financial and engineering implications, and also affects maintenance procedures and road safety audits. Overcoming these challenges will be a priority in this session. Across provinces and municipalities is a lack of standard process when there is a road block. Simon Ditshego, National Manager: Law Enforcement, Cross Border Road Transport Agency 11:30-14:30 Mini-workshop: Road Safety Audits Managing human error There is a need to identify causes of human error and the implications of it. Practical solutions such as training requirements for auditors as well as initiatives that encourages thoroughness from project development right through to construction need to be emphasized.
