The project information is as follows: Lansing Section - Moore s River Drive, Mt. Hope Avenue Project Limits: Moore s River Drive - Waverly Road to Mt. Hope Avenue. Mt. Hope Avenue Moore s River Drive to approximately 200 east of the Pleasant Grove Road intersection. Description: Remove westbound travel lanes to permit construction of two-way multi-use pathway. Reconstruct eastbound lanes to accommodate two travel lanes (one in each direction) and bike lanes. Remove existing sea wall and replace with rip rap and a sloping embankment. Reconfigure Mt. Hope Avenue from the Moore s River Drive intersection to just east of Pleasant Grove Road from 4 lanes to 3 lanes with bike lanes. Lansing Township Section - Waverly Road, Old Lansing Road Project Limits: Waverly Road - Moore s River Drive to Old Lansing Road. Old Lasing Road Waverly Road to the west boundary of Grand River Park. Description: Upgrade the bridge railing on the east side of the Waverly Road bridge over the Grand River to current pedestrian standards. Contruct a sidewalk or pathway on the east side of Waverly Road from Moore s River Drive to Old Lansing Road and on the north side of Old Lansing Road from Waverly Road to the west boundary of the Grand River Park. Install a pedestrian crossing signal on Old Lansing Road at the west boundary of the Grand River Park. Upgrade signals, as necessary, for pedestrian/bicycle crossing at the Moore s River Drive/Waverly Road intersection. Total Project Cost: $1.3 million (shown as 100% local funding until alternate funding secured) A public meeting on this and adjacent road and pathway projects was held on March 24 th. 2 Waverly/Grand River Regional Recreational Pathway Project Description of Project: The proposed project consists of three distinct elements: 1) Reconfigure Mt. Hope Avenue from four lanes to three lanes with bike lanes. This will link the existing buffer lanes on Pleasant Grove Road to the pathway on Moore s River Drive. The attached figures show this section (existing and proposed) 2) Reconfigure the four lane boulevard section of Moore s River Drive (Mt. Hope to Waverly) as a two lane roadway with bike lanes along the south side of the right of way, where the current eastbound lanes are. The sea wall along the Grand River would be removed and replaced with a sloping embankment and a pathway. This would provide a utilitarian link from Waverly Road to the bike lanes proposed in 1) above and a recreational link to the existing pathway along Moore s River Drive. Several figures show this section in both existing and proposed configurations. 3) Provide a shared use pathway on the east side of Waverly Road from the Grand River to Old Lansing and on the north side of Old Lansing Road from Waverly Road to the east corner of the Grand River Park. This section is in Lansing Township. The section along Waverly road is constrained by an embankment and additional right of way would need to be acquired. There is an existing sidewalk from the YMCA to the east which would be widened. A new multi-use path would be constructed from Waverly Road to the YMCA to complete the non-motorized link. This project is part of a larger non-motorized plan for the area that includes: 2011 Ingham County Road Commission Waverly Road reconstruction project from I-96 to Jolly Road which includes paved shoulders City of Lansing CMAQ project to extend bike lanes north to Glenburne Blvd. and construct a pathway on the east side of Waverly Road from north of Jolly Road to Cooley Drive (just south of Moore s River Drive). Proposed CMAQ project to construct a pathway on the Consumer s Energy Right of Way from Waverly Road to US-127. Future bike lanes on Jolly Road from Waverly Road to east of Pleasant Grove Road The following pages contain maps and images for this project, showing both existing and proposed configurations, as well as for the adjacent projects.
