2 Enderby Footpath BS Bus Stop Community Resource Huncote Leisure In the future, New Lubbesthorpe will have its own community activities and facilities, which the community can help to shape. In the meantime, here is some background to the surrounding villages and communities where you can access groups, amenities and activities. Amenities Map LOCAL AMENITIES INFORMATION Enderby is to the south, at the bottom end of Beggars Lane. When you reach the crossroads you will see the Next headquarters. Turn left and follow the road until you see the signs and then you will come into a small village centre with a Co-op, café, petrol and a few other small shops. There is also a community library as well as Enderby Leisure and Golf Centre which is home to a 138 station gym, group exercise studios, a crèche, two swimming pools, a sports hall, squash courts, indoor bowls hall, café, bar and meeting rooms. There is a Civic Centre which houses the 9 hole golf course. Huncote is home to the Pavilion which has sports and leisure facilities, as well as being home to the District Council Home and Leisure Services and Homestart. Facilities include gym, squash, badminton, 3G pitches, classes, children s birthday parties, café & terrace, BMX track. If you need to register with a Doctor, then visit Forest House Medical Centre on the A47 Desford crossroads, as they will be taking patients from New Lubbesthorpe until a surgery is built. Check the map in the guide for further information on local amenities. Food & Drink Health Education Shopping MERIDIEN LEISURE PARK There is also a very friendly Community Library which also has activities and groups that meet in it. There are a number of small shops such as newsagents, hairdressers, Post Office, Co-op, Sainsbury s and bakers scattered throughout LFE. The majority of shops can be found on the main A47 road through towards the city. If you fancy a take-away you can find Indian food as well as a Fish and Chip shop. LFE is the closest community to Lubbesthorpe and probably the place you will nip to get a pint of milk or a loaf of bread as it is located on Beggars Lane. There is a footpath off Tay Road (near to the bollards) which will give you access to LFE and a convenience store located on Forest House Lane. During school holidays The Pavilion host a holiday club for children aged between 5 14 years. Ro ad Leicester Forest East (LFE) A653 Lubbes

4 The New Lubbesthorpe Travel Plan How will residents benefit? Travelling more sustainably can help in a number of ways: What is the New Lubbesthorpe Travel Plan? A major new development like New Lubbesthorpe, will create a lot of new traffic. Cars are a very flexible way of making journeys but do have some downsides. Their emissions are a contributor to climate change and reduce air quality. Cars also make more demands on our road network and require space for parking in city centres, business parks and shopping centres. In many places, local roads and car parking is already at, or close to, capacity. Less journeys by car with only one person will make for a more sustainable future. The Drummond Estate, the developer of New Lubbesthorpe, is committed to promoting and developing travel options to reduce the need for all journeys to be made by car. S ave money use of a petrol or diesel powered car and buying a 2nd car can be more expensive than you think choosing sustainable options, including an electric car, can save money. Residents of New Lubbesthorpe can enjoy free bus travel and savings on cycling, train travel and more besides. Improve health by using travel options that help incorporate healthy activities into your daily routines Make a difference by choosing to travel sustainably, you are making a positive difference for future generations and the environment Summary of key activities Walking promoting the options to walk locally Cycling promoting and developing tools to encourage more cycling reviewing options such as a Bicycle Users Group, Bike Share scheme and Dr Bike maintenance Travel by Walking and by Bike Why take the bus? Walking or cycling to work, shops or school is an easy way to achieve this target, plus it will save you money, meaning less travel costs and no gym membership! What s more, for some journeys, travelling by bike can be as quick as the car. As well as being a good way of helping the environment and reducing congestion, travelling by bus can offer some great personal benefits. If you are travelling into Leicester city centre, the journey time could be quicker than taking the car, as the Hinckley Road is a bus priority corridor. What is more, many buses on this corridor offer some of the latest comforts with onboard wi-fi, charging and high-quality seating. Making walking and cycling easier What local bus services are there? When complete, New Lubbesthorpe will have 320 acres of parkland, with lots of footpaths plus off road shared space for walking and cycling. The main bus services operate along Hinckley Road and to locations such as Coventry, Nuneaton, Hinckley and Leicester. During the daytime, there are up to 6 buses per hour. The main bus operators from these stops are Arriva (service 158) and Stagecoach Midlands (service 48). Benefits of walking and cycling As part of the Travel Plan, there will be support to encourage more cycling. If you have any ideas, newlubbesthorpe@localgo.co.uk Some useful information Find out more about local cycling courses and resources For a guide showing cycle routes in Leicester South go to: Bus travel a new bus service is planned to start within the next year, making it easier to travel to Leicester city centre and surrounding areas Cycling is often quicker than you think from New Lubbesthorpe travel to Leicester City Centre and rail station in minutes and Fosse Shopping Park in minutes with many parts of these journeys on segregated paths and quieter roads. Cars making it possible to car share, explore the potential of a car club and make electric vehicle charging easier Here s a journey planner purely for cycling: Schools and workplaces work is underway with the sites being developed in New Lubbesthorpe and those in the surrounding areas, to make it easier to make these trips without the need for a car Travel by Bus There are other less frequent bus services in the area, for example from Thorpe Astley and Desford Road (near Next HQ). For local bus, coach and train journeys and across the UK, go to How much will it cost? If you travel with Arriva, it may not cost anything for 6 months! As part of the New Lubbesthorpe Travel Plan, there are a limited number of free 6-month Arriva Leicester Zone 1 tickets. To apply, sign up to LocalGo as a resident and select this ticket option. For details of season tickets, go to the website of the bus company running the service. New bus service being planned In the next year, New Lubbesthorpe will have its own highquality bus service coming into the heart of the community. Look out for updates. Save on cycling Save on local bus travel Do you have a local travel enquiry? Do you want your own free Personal Travel Plan?

5 Smarter use of Cars Cars can offer a lot of convenience when making journeys and can at times be the only practical way of making a journey. However, they do have some adverse impacts. There are a number of ways of reducing these impacts and saving money. Here are some suggestions. Car share Travel by Park and Ride Why Park & Ride? If you are looking for a convenient way of travelling to Leicester city centre, Leicester Royal Infirmary or De Montfort University, then using the Park & Ride could work well for you. Within a 5 to 10-minute drive of New Lubbesthorpe, there are two Park & Ride services for Leicester. They operate throughout the year daytime Monday to Saturday and at additional times during the Christmas season and for special events. For full information, go to: Which Park & Ride do I take? The two Park & Ride services for Leicester city centre are at Meynell s Gorse (LE3 3LF) and Enderby (LE19 2AB). Both operate to Jubilee Square in Leicester city centre and operate at the same times and every 15 minutes. If travelling to De Montfort University and Leicester Royal Infirmary, then you need to travel on the Park & Ride from Enderby. How much does it cost? There are a range of ticket options including day tickets, season tickets and group tickets. Parking is free. You pay on the bus. Full details are at: Travel by Train The nearest major rail station is Leicester (LE2 0QB), a distance of 5½ miles away. To reach it by bus, take any bus service for Leicester city centre. Narborough (LE19 2HR) is the nearest rail station and is 3 miles from New Lubbesthorpe. To find out train times and fares, go to How can I save money? On the National Rail Enquiries website ( you will find information on all ticket prices, for all train companies. If you are a regular train traveller, season tickets offer the best way of saving money. On this website, there is a season ticket calculator. You could save even more with LocalGo discounts! Made famous by Peter Kay (John) and Sian Gibson (Kayleigh), this is one way to help reduce costs and enjoy some company! There is a scheme already set up to help make this even easier. Go to: As part of the Travel Plan for New Lubbesthorpe, we plan to develop a group scheme just open to residents of New Lubbesthorpe. If you want to be part of it, newlubbesthorpe@localgo.co.uk Electric vehicles The popularity of electric and hybrid vehicles is growing significantly.
