4 CHOOSING THE RIGHT MULTI TOOL: CUSTOMER FLEXIBILITY Customer needs vary greatly and there is no one-answer for all customers. Mate offers a broad selection to cover all customer needs. Mate IMT3(B), IMT8(A), Ultra (MT3-BUi, MT-8AUi, UMT-3B or UMT-8A) Multi Tools: Use Ultra or UltraQCT Punches and Strippers and Thick Turret Dies. IMT3(B) allows Mate MXC or Wilson HP punches without removing punch hardware. IMT3(B) allows Mate MXC ABS or Wilson WLS punches. IMT3(B) allows Mate MXC or Wilson HP strippers. UMT-3B & UMT-8A are used in machines with a rotating ram in an auto-indexing station. Mate MT4-AU and MT6-AU: Uses A station complete assemblies Original Thick Turret Style, Ultra Style or UltraQCT. Uses dedicated multi tool tooling but offers additional punches to increase machine capacity. MT4-AU is a fixed 4-station multi tool for use in machines with a rotating ram. MULTI TOOL CHOICES FOR NIBBLING BEST: MT6-AU and MT4-AU offer keyed long guided punches when using Thick Turret Original Style Guide and can be fully guided with tight clearance on stripper opening on closedend guides. BETTER: IMT (MT3IRMATE or MT8IRMATE in NCExpress) with hardened guides and long guided punches edges out the Ultra MT due to index-ability and availability of fully guided precision strippers as an option. MT3-BUi, MT-8AUi, UMT-3B and UMT-8A offer hardened guides and long guided punches. GOOD: MT8-24, MT10-16, MT24-8, MTH-16 guides made of softer material and has non-keyed short punches which will induce wear on strippers and pockets. It can be used for nibbling, but life is reduced. A plus is that the strippers are precision fit. Budget an additional ~ /$1000 per year for additional multi-tool wear and tear if nibbling with multi-tools.
