ATTENTION TEAM LEADERS: Please see attachment concerning t-shirt sizes and dinner banquet member attendance! For our convenience, please fill out the short questionnaire and reply back by March 22 nd. 2. There were several changes to the schedule pertaining to the steel bridge loading and judging, these were made to keep all of the events running as smoothly and efficiently as possible. 3. 3 School Name: Steel Bridge Oral Presentation Scoring Sheet 2017 ASCE Upstate New York Regional Conference Presentation Scoring Categories 1. Design and Methodology 2. Fabrication 3. Schedule Description of the structural framework of the bridge, including specifics like the bridge type, materials used, structural analysis procedures, and the reasoning for why the selected design was chosen Detailed account of the fabrication process. Includes where fabrication took place, tasks, methods of fabrication, and safety Explanation and visuals of the schedule. Includes milestones, design/fabrication time, and any modifications to the schedule that occurred during the process 4. Bridge Construction List of how many members will be used for construction, as well as how the bridge will be constructed 5. Presentation Skills Are the presenters properly dressed, do they maintain eye contact, do they seem natural Are their ideas spoken clearly and with confidence, are they presenting an a professional manner 6. Time (6:00 Minutes + or 10 Seconds) If the presentation is outside of the 10 second window (ie. 5:50-6:10) a.5 point deduction will be implemented for every 30 seconds in which the presentation in outside of the range. 7. 4 P a g e 4 Technical (Mead) Paper Presentation Competition 2017 ASCE Upstate NY Regional Conference TOPIC: "Is it ethical for university engineering faculty to teach technical subject matter to engineering students without obtaining professional licensure? Some states require this (such as Idaho) while some states do not. How does that affect the success of a university program? Should all 50 states be consistent with this? Should there be additional routes to obtain professional licensure, such as through research and a doctorate degree? RULES: 1. Papers are not to exceed 2,000 words in length, must be by only one person, and should not have appeared in any publications other than in school or chapter publications. Reference citations of the papers should conform to official ASCE Journal Submission Guidelines, which can be found on the ASCE Publications website: 2. Authors must be undergraduate students and both ASCE Student Organization members and ASCE national student members in good standing at the time of submission to be considered. 3. One electronic copy of the paper should be submitted by to Rachel Murello at remurell@syr.edu. Papers must be received by March 31 st, This submission is not for the national Mead paper competition. Late submissions will not be accepted. 4. An electronic presentation (PowerPoint, etc.) should be submitted by to Rachel Murello at remurell@syr.edu no later than April 19 th, Late submissions will not be accepted. 5. Each author (limit of 2 per school) will be expected to make a 5-minute* oral presentation on the paper. Up to five minutes of questioning by the judges will be allotted following each presentation. (*Allowance of + or 5 seconds without penalty.) 6. The paper portion of the competition constitutes 67% of the final score, while the oral presentation accounts for the remaining 33% of the score. A detailed breakdown of the scoring procedure is outlined on the scoring summary sheet. SELECTION: Winners will be selected by a panel of at least three (3) judges to be identified by the host school. Prizes for winners are as follows: 1 st prize: $100 2 nd prize: $75 3 rd prize: $50

Deductions are as noted in the Design Paper Score Card-Appendix A-7. Project Overview and Technical Addendum (Engineers Notebook): Following the guidelines outlined in Section of the Rules and Regulations-General Requirements: 1 hard copy must be provided for the Product Display. A PDF version is also required to be provided at the time of the Design Paper submission to be consistent with the National Rules. With the exception of the 8 photographs of finishing techniques, there are no items at this point that can/may not be complete at this time. Therefore, all items noted in Section 7 except item 7.1.2, Tab B, Item 3 are required for submission.
