1 May 2017 Promoting Quality of Lake, Providing a forum for Lake Issues & Activities Volume 18 Issue 2 A NOTE FROM YOUR PRESIDENT LOIS BROWN What a beautiful Spring we are having on the lake! The water level is already above summer pool. Even though the water will gradually be drawn down, be careful of more floating limbs, trees and other debris. You can monitor the water levels on TVA s website. Tim s Ford Council (TFC) membership meeting program addressed home security and what home owners can do to help prevent crime in our neighborhoods. There was also discussion regarding growing concern for watercraft safety. The following recommendations were discussed following episodes encountered on the lake by our members: BOAT SPEED Boats going at very high speeds was discussed. When one notes a problem with reckless boat driving, he/she should contact TWRA. PADDLERS AND JET SKIS: From dusk to dawn, paddlers and jet skis are hard for boaters to clearly visualize and sometimes a boater may be very close before recognizing. The water can create optical illusions and a group of kayakers could look like a flock of geese from a distance. Dark clothing and paddlers being in central waterways and middle of coves increases the risk. It is very important to wear life jackets when paddling or other water (Continued on page 3) TF BASS CLUB COMMUNITY RELATIONS OFFICER JAKE DAVIS First, let me say thanks to all the members of the Tim s Ford Council, who have taken the time to look after one of the most beautiful lakes in the country! As many have heard the Tim s Ford Council (TFC) members are also helping with several other projects around our lake such as restoration of fishing habitat and teaming up with the Bass Club to host the 2017 TN High School BASS Championship. If you wish to help please feel free to contact me at the below listed number or . Each quarter I ll try to give a couple helpful tips which could help all to enjoy our lake. First for the boat owners, I highly recommend that everyone conducts a check of required equipment for a safe summer boating season. Ensure all personal floatation devices are in good serviceable condition, Fire Extinguishers are not expired and all lights are in working order. Second, to ensure everything is running good go see a certified master mechanic at a reputable dealer. A few of the items you should talk and have done if you did not last fall are flush the cooling system, service the batteries, change the lower unit oil and water impellor, grease and lube all moving parts to include the trailer, check the hydraulic steer fluid and let s not forget about those live wells. I highly recommend the Certified Master Mechanic s and great folks down at Tim s Ford Power Sports in Winchester, TN check them (Continued on page 3) TIMS FORD COUNCIL NEXT MEETING JULY 27, 2017

CHECK FOR LAKE NEWS REGULARLY DRY CREEK BEACH PARK (UPDATE), By Anita Miller, Liaison for TFC An incredible transformation is taking place at Dry Creek beach Park! Due to grant initiated by County Mayor Stewart, the updating began several weeks ago. A meeting was held with Bill Anderson, Project Manager, who shared the changes and additions including a new maintenance-free fence surrounding the entire property complete with two large pillars with solar lighting and an extension of the gated entrance. This will accommodate guests transition into the park. TFC BOARD MEMBERS 2017 Chairman Lois Brown ltbrown8@comcast.net Vice Chairman Sally Lightner Treasurer Christine Murphy Secretary, Publicity Diane Harris (407) Board Members at Large Dennis English Rick Silver Dave VanBuskirk Dave Lowe Caleb Burgoyne Ron Schmitz (256) Anita Miller (615) Mike Gattie Larry McCumber Ron Cole Mac Warr TVA Liaison Wilson Taylor (256) Jackson Nursery graciously donated 30 redbud trees to enhance the landscape and all have been planted. The Franklin Garden Club is offering their Master Gardener assistance with the planting of additional trees, azaleas, nandina, and border grasses, etc., to accent the lake and pavilions. The future plan is to add two more pavilions to accommodate guests for family gatherings and other events. A new American flag now has a permanent light and will be lit at night. The volleyball courts will have new nets and sand replenished for the court as well as the beach area. The bathrooms will have the power hand dryers, a new roof, and floor drains for maintenance purposes. New water lines have been extended to the pavilion area, making for ease of maintenance and guest needs. The drive and parking areas have been repaved along with several speed bumps for safety. In addition, buoys will be placed and roped accordingly to insure water safety. Please note Tim s Ford Council, along with the greater Franklin County community, initially took an interest in Dry Creek Beach Park several years ago and made a major investment. This investment has continued to benefit so many and as a result, we helped make a huge positive difference, making it possible for individuals and families to enjoy the wondrous lake and the beautiful park. This in turn benefits Franklin County not only with offering of recreational activities, but increasing social activity, economic development, and insuring environmental returns as well. Congratulations to all who continue to serve and improve this community!! page 2

3 (Continued from page 1) activities. FLOATING BOATS AT NIGHT: Many people love to go for an evening cruise in the middle of the lake and float turning off their lights. This is not only a violation of boating guidelines, it is impossible to see as a fast moving boat approaches. Required lighting should always be used. Our members do care about the safety of people enjoying Tim s Ford Lake. Please be safe this summer and spread the word! We should do everything possible to avoid dangerous situations. Membership is growing! Please continue to share the mission of Tim s Ford Council with your friends and neighbors and remember the lake is an asset to our entire community. If you are a member of an organization that has educational programs, consider including a presentation of the Council, its history, work accomplished and key initiatives. Mack Warr scheduled an opportunity for TFC to present a very successful program at the Rotary Club this month. (Continued from page 1) out at or call them at Marty, Sandy and the crew are absolutely the Best in Southern Tennessee and the only dealership which works on my boat. Second item, is all those rods and tackle you ve had sitting in the boat or shed. This is the time to start cleaning and servicing your reels and baits. I hate to see a grown adult cry when the Big One gets away because of rotten fishing line. Last but not least, for the dock owners. Conduct and inspection of your docks look for loose or broken tie downs, damaged walkways, check electrical wires and as always place secure a life ring or life cushion with a 50 foot rope on the dock someplace where anyone can get to it. It just might save your life. If you are not sure about anything to do with your dock call Mr. Dennis English over at Dockscapes, Inc on Lynchburg Rd at , he ll have someone come out and check it for you. Before you know it summer is going to be here now is the time to prepare and I wish everyone a safe enjoyable season. Capt Jake Davis, USCG Licensed Professional Fishing Guide on Tim s Ford, Guntersville, Normandy and Nickajack Lakes. Visit or call/ , msbassguide@comcast.net A big THANK YOU to TVA for the newly added overlooks and Franklin County for the beautification initiatives at Dry Creek Beach. Not only is there a new flag flying over the park (given by TFC) but the County has installed a permanent light to shine on the flag. Lakefront Cabins Please remember to honor our Veterans and our men and women serving our Country. May 20 is Armed Forces Day! or Pontoon Boat Rentals Wishing you a safe summer and many opportunities to enjoy our beautiful lake!
