Should your watercraft not be listed above and you feel that it should be allowed to be entered into the Derby, please contact the Derby Director prior to the early bird deadline to be given consideration. Tandem craft may only be used by solo anglers. Only one angler per craft will be allowed. 6. Tournament Area The approved fishing zone will be indicated on the map provided with your registration bag. Anglers fishing in the Derby must fish within the approved fishing zone at all times. Fish caught outside the fishing zone will be disqualified. The fishing zone will be defined by Indian Point to the west, the provincial border to the north (bi-sects the river), Gutzman Island to the east and the Ontario shoreline to the south. 7. Scoring Scoring will be done by the Catch-Measure-Photo-Release method. Participants must use a digital camera and take a photo of the fish on the standard measuring device that is provided to participants in their registration bag. If your camera's memory card is not in a standard form, you must provide the tourney director with an approved USB cable. - To be eligible the camera s memory card must be clear of all other photos. - The first photo must be of the watercraft on the bank or on your vehicle at the Petawawa Point parking lot. - The fish s closed mouth must be aligned with the "0" marking of the measuring device to prevent a competitor from trying to score it twice. - The tail should be in a pinched position to maximize length.
11 - The fish must be photographed on the provided measuring device, no other pictures of the fish in any other position shall be considered valid. - As this is a catch and release Derby, all fish must be released. - Upon return to Petawawa Point, anglers will give their memory card/and or camera and cable to the Derby Director for downloading ONLY if they consider a photographed fish is in the running for 1st place (a board will display the leading fish in each category in the registration tent, updated throughout the day as anglers come in to enter their photos. - Cameras may not be shared by competitors. - Submitted fish measuring the same length must have distinct differences in appearance or the angler may be subject to disqualification. - The Derby Committee will review all photos to verify validity of the catch and the length to determine place winners. - Length is rounded to the nearest quarter of an inch. - Late check in will result in disqualification. - Ties - Should two anglers enter a fish with the same measurements, the tie is broken by whoever submitted his/her photos first. The angler who submitted the photo later will drop one place in the standings. 8. Eligible Fishing Methods All fish must be caught alive on a conventional rod and reel in a sporting manner. Only artificial lures may be used during the Derby. Commercially sold pork trailers or scents may be added and used. Foul hooked fish may not be scored. A foul hooked fish is defined as a fish that does not have at least one hook in its mouth, and it must be released. Anglers may not catch fish or weigh in fish that have been caged or confined in an area prior to the tournament. All fish must be caught during derby hours. Trolling and fly fishing are allowed. Anglers may use a landing net. Anglers must show proof of a valid Ontario Sport or Conservation fishing license on the day of registration and anglers must comply with all rules and regulations set forth by the Ontario Fishing Regulations/ Ministry of Natural Resources.
12 All fish must be caught from the angler's watercraft and the only time an angler may leave his/her watercraft is to use bathroom facilities or leave/return to Petawawa Point. 9. River Access All anglers must access the Ottawa River from the beach at Petawawa Point only. Anglers may fish in the mouth of the Petawawa River up to the Golf Course Rapids (first set of rapids upstream from the mouth of the Petawawa River). 10. Angler Safety Safe boating will be performed by participants at all times. During competition, each contestant is required to comply with all provincial boating laws and regulations. The Derby may be canceled due to unsafe weather or water conditions. The decision to cancel will be made by the Derby Director and all participants will be notified immediately. 11. Communications The use of mobile communication devices such as cellular telephones, marine radios, walkie-talkies, CBs, pagers or any electronic device to communicate fishing information during Derby hours is prohibited. Communication among anglers is allowed on the water only by non-electronic methods. Emergency calls may be made. 12. Sportsmanship The Derby is all about just having a good time on the river and promoting paddle sports. It is important that all anglers adhere to a high standard of sportsmanship that portrays paddle sports in a positive light. The possession or use of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs is prohibited. Any possession or use of alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs, participation in criminal activity, or other conduct reflecting unfavorably upon the Derby and its sponsors will be subject to disqualification. 13.
