In addition, we encourage you to participate in our joint session with the Pharmacy Information Section regarding Counterfeit Medicines. 4 Young Pharmacists Group: About Us... Innovation Award Young and recently qualified pharmacists have unique interests, challenges, and expectations. In 2001, a Young Pharmacists Group was launched within the structure of FIP to help serve this special sector of the profession and to encourage more young pharmacists to get actively involved in international pharmacy. FIP members who are under 35 years of age or who graduated from pharmacy school less than 5 years ago are encouraged to join! Membership in the FIP Young Pharmacists Group is free of charge to FIP members. Just indicate that you would like to be part of the YPG on your membership application or renewal. The 2005 FIP Young Pharmacists/ Pharmaceutical Scientist s Award for Professional Innovation Is awarded to: Mr. Uwubanmwen Osak Andrew (Nigeria) For his project titled: Our Water, Our Immunization With this grant, Mr. Andrew will combine a safe water facility with a vaccination and birth registration centre in his home country of Nigeria. The availability of drinking water will attract people to the centre regularly and therefore support patient compliance with immunization programmes. He will be awarded 1000 Euros to support the implementation of his project, together with a commemorative plaque and an expenses paid trip to the 2005 FIP World Pharmacy Congress in Cairo. 5 YPG Forum Migrating to another country can offer health professionals a wealth of benefits, but if large numbers of professionals leave a country, the outcome can be devastating. During the 2005 World Pharmacy Congress in Cairo, the FIP Young Pharmacists Group will be hosting a special forum to discuss international Brain Drain, the migration of pharmacists from developing to developed countries. It is an issue that is high on the agenda of many governments around the world and, to help focus attention on the issue, WHO are devoting the 2006 World Health Day and 2006 World Health Report to Human Resources for Health. In order to reverse the brain drain, bold and creative strategies are needed that take into account the moral and ethical dilemmas that this issue raises. Is it right to create new barriers to the movement of pharmacists between countries? Should there be an international code of practice for international recruiters? Why not come along to the session and get involved in the debate. It s an opportunity to work with new friends from around the world and get a unique insight into the World of FIP and international pharmacy. It is hard work and Committee members need to be in a position to dedicate at least a few hours each week to YPG. The majority of the group's work is done online, so you will need to have access to the internet. The committee typically meets twice during the year, once in March (normally at the FIP Secretariat in The Hague, The Netherlands) and once in September before the World Pharmacy Congress. Any young pharmacist who is a member of FIP YPG can run for election. The election takes place during the Annual Assembly of Members. To apply for the 2005/6 YPG Steering Committee, please send your nomination by to ypg@fip.org by 7am GMT (9am Cairo time) on Thursday 8 th September. Alternatively, if you are attending the Congress please give your nomination personally to a member of the YPG Steering Committee. Your nomination for the Steering Committee should include the position you are running for, your name, country, date of birth, FIP membership number and a short description of any relevant experience. Individuals may nominate themselves. 9 4

6 Social Events Sunday 4 th September (evening) YPG Welcome Dinner Enjoy a cruise on the Nile!! The YPG Welcome Dinner is open to all the young and young-at-heart. You must purchase a ticket in advance for admission to this event and seating is limited. Get your tickets after the opening ceremony on Sunday afternoon. They will be on sale at the YPG booth during the FIP Showcase. Monday 5 th September (evening) FIP Welcome Reception Open to all Congress Delegates Tuesday 6 th September (evening) YPG and IPSF Social: An International Evening! It s the social event you don t want to miss! Tickets should be purchased in advance and will be available from the International Pharmaceutical Students Federation and the FIP Young Pharmacists Group booths at the Exhibition. Wednesday 7 th September (evening) Section Dinners (various) There are a number of FIP Sections serving different sectors of the profession. You can choose to go to the dinner relevant to your section including the Community Pharmacy Section, Hospital Pharmacy Section, Industrial Pharmacy Section and Administrative Pharmacy Section.
