1 U16/U18 NATIONAL TEAM ÉQUIPE NATIONALE U16/U18 FALL TESTING GENERAL INFORMATION Welcome to the first test of the 2019 Dragon Boat Canada U16/U18 National Team. This is the first step in your journey to making Team Canada, racing at the 2019 World Nations Dragon Boat Championships from August 20-25, 2019 in Pattaya, Thailand. Please arrive promptly approximately 15 minutes before the start time to check in. We will verify that you have registered for the U16/U18 National Team program, that you have completed any required waivers, and to collect payment for the camp. We accept cash, credit, and cheque. Cash should be brought in a sealed envelope with your name on it, or a cheque made out to DBC U18. If your testing fee has been pre-paid, please bring a copy of your receipt with you. Please bring all necessary equipment and appropriate gear for a water practice, fitness testing, and erg testing as applicable per day. You are also advised to bring a notebook if you would like to make notes on technique suggestions. Please ensure you bring snacks, lunch, water, and all necessary items to make your camp experience a successful one. The appendix contains all required waivers that must be completed and submitted prior to you starting your test. TESTING PARAMETERS Version 1.1 of the Testing Parameter document will be used for the Fall Testing Camp. Please note that body rows have been replaced with pullups, and that the plank has been adjusted to a 5 minute pass/fail. No other changes have been made to the Testing Parameters. No modifications are allowed to the test, except for comfort or safety. Modifications may not have, or be perceived to have any performance enchancing benefit or an unfair advantage. Flat mats will be allowed for planks/pushups if the applicant s hands/arms and feet are simultaneously on the mat. Please contact program officials if you have any questions about what will be allowed. 2 TESTING INFORMATION, FEES, AND SUBSIDIES EASTERN REGION (QC, NB, NL, NS, PEI) WHERE: GoDragon, 345, boulevard Sainte-Rose, Laval WHEN: September 23 COST: $30 per paddler FORMS REQUIRED: DBC U18 Medical Information Form All Eastern area applicants, except drummers and steers, are expected to attend both days of camp, except in pre-approved and extenuating circumstances. Drummers and steerspeople are required to attend on September 23, but are encouraged to also attend September 21. he Program Directors and Quebec Regional Coaches will be in attendance for this session. Paddlers should expect to have 1 lunch break, and up to two short breaks/ technique discussion breaks. Fitness testing including erg testing will be held on the same day. Subsidies may be offered to applicants coming in from outside Quebec. CENTRAL REGION (SK, MB, ON, NWT, NT) WHERE: Waterloo Paddling Club, 625 Westmount Road North, Waterloo Crossfit Division, Unit Conestogo Road, Waterloo WHEN: September 22 (8:00-5:30) COST: $40 per paddler FORMS REQUIRED: DBC U18 Medical Information Form, Waterloo Paddling Club Waiver, Grand River Conservation Authority Waiver All Central area applicants, including drummers and steers, are expected to attend this camp, except in pre-approved and extenuating circumstances. Water testing will be held on September 22 from 8:00 AM-2:30 PM. The Program Directors and Ontario Asssistant Coaches will be in attendance for this session. Paddlers should expect to have 1 lunch break, and up to two short breaks/technique discussion breaks. OC-1 time trials will be held from 8:00 AM to approximately 12:00 PM. Time trial results from the Fall testing camp will not count towards the selection process. WESTERN REGION (BC, AB, YK) WHERE: Dragon Zone Paddling Club, 1 Athletes Way, Vancouver Eric Hamber Secondary School, 5025 Willow Street, Vancouver WHEN: Land: September 28 (Eric Hamber, 4:30-8:30) Dragon Boat: September 29 (Dragon Zone, 9:00-4:00) OC-1: September 30 (Dragon Zone, 9:00-3:00) COST: $60 per paddler FORMS REQUIRED: DBC U18 Medical Information Form, Dragon Boat BC Waiver Land testing will be supervised by either a Program Director or an Assistant Coach at Crossfit Division on September 22 at approximately 3:00 PM. Subsidies may be offered to applicants coming in from outside Ontario. 2

3 All Metro Vancouver area applicants, except drummers and steers, are expected to attend all days of camp, except in pre-approved and extenuating circumstances. Drummers and steerspeople are required to attend on September 29, but are encouraged to also attend September 28 and 30. All applicants from outside Metro Vancouver should attend on September 29 and 30, but are not required to attend on September 28. Land testing for all applicants except those outside Metro Vancouver will be held on September 28 and will be supervised by the Program Director or Western Assistant Coaches. Land testing by appointment may be available for applicants from other regions or for those in Metro Vancouver. Applicants from outside Metro Vancouver will be permitted to complete the land portion of the test and the erg test at any time on Saturday. Scores will seed applicants for the time trials on Sunday. Water evaluations will be held on September 29. Time trial simulations will be held on September 30; however, these will not count towards the selection process. If any applicant has not done a huli drill before with an OC1, they are required to contact the Program Directors to arrange for a session. We may run both 165 and 300 distances for the time trial. A race grid for OC-1 time trials will be released after all results for the erg test have been received. Paddlers must be ready to go 30 minutes before their trial time in marshalling. Warm up and stretches will be on your own. Paddlers will proceed immediately from the docks to the start line for their time trials. The specifications for the time trial will be as detailed in the testing parameter document. Subsidies may be offered to applicants coming in from outside British Columbia. 3

To release and discharge the Conservation Authority and its servants from all claims which the Lessee has or may have arising out of any loss, damage or expense sustained be it arising directly or indirectly out of or in the course of the exercise of this permission by or on behalf of the Lessee, no matter how caused and notwithstanding any negligence on the part of the Conservation Authority or its servants. Junior Informed Consent (Age 18 years and under) TO: CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL DRAGON BOAT FESTIVAL SOCIETY (hereinafter referred to as the OPERATOR ) In this agreement: 1. The terms paddling activities or programs shall include all activities, events or services provided, arranged, organized, sponsored or authorized by the Operator with respect to the Concord Pacific Dragon Boat Festival, Steveston Dragon Boat Festival, Richmond Dragon Boat Club, Dragon Zone Paddling Club and Creekside Kayaks, including, but not limited to: regattas, competitions, races, demonstrations, practices, paddling orientation and instruction sessions, and other such activities, events and services in any way connected with the above events, and: 2. The term Operator shall include the Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival Society, Dragon Zone Paddling Club, City of Vancouver, City of New Westminster, City of Richmond, Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, Britannia Heritage Shipyard Society, Concord Pacific Developments Ltd., all event sponsors, official sponsors, official suppliers, volunteers, staff and all of their respective directors, officers, employees, volunteers, agents, representatives, successors and assigns. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT AND ACCEPTANCE OF RISK, AND CONSENT I have reviewed the description of the paddling activites and programs and feel that I have sufficiently informed myself about the nature of the paddling activities involved. I acknowledge that there are risks, dangers, and hazards associated with my child s participation in the program including, but not limited to: impact and collision with other participants, instructors, or spectators; changes in the type of surface and the condition of each surface, including the docks, floats, multipurpose spaces, shower facilities and change rooms; adverse weather conditions; loss of balance; failure to participate safely within one s own ability; theft; consumption of food and drink, whether made by professionals or by non-professionals; and negligence of other participants or program staff. I also give permission for program staff or volunteer members to administer first aid treatment to my child. Participants are expected to be respectful and considerate towards other participants, program staff including all instructors and volunteers, and external partner organization and individuals. Participants are expected and required to follow the directions of all instructors, to stay in close proximity to the program staff during the program and not leave without consent and informing staff or instructors. If there is a breach of these rules, staff will discuss the issue with the participant and/or their parents or guardian. In the event that there is a continuous breach of these rules, the Operator may require the participant to withdraw from the remainder of the program, without reimbursement of some or all fees. I confirm that I have discussed these rules and expectations with my child. I hereby consent to my child s participation in the program on the terms and conditions set out above by signing below MEDIA CONSENT In consideration for my child s participation in any and all paddling activities offered by the Operator, I grant its representatives, employees, professional photographers and the media the right and permission to publish, copyright and use photographs of my child and his/her property, with or without his/her name, and to reproduce the photographs through any medium for illustration, art, promotion, advertising, trade, web content or other purpose. In entering into this Agreement I am not relying on any oral or written representations or statements made by the Operator with respect to the safety of paddling activities other than what is set forth in this Agreement. I CONFIRM THAT I HAVE READ AND UNDERSTOOD THIS AGREEMENT PRIOR TO SIGNING IT. I hereby authorize the Operator and its representatives to notify me (via mail, or fax) throughout the year for special offers, events news and information about our services.
