THE CARE BEARS "The Rainshine Meadows" Episode #110a FADE IN: EXT. CARE-A-LOT SKIES - DAY PUSH IN PAST billowing clouds, behind which is revealed Carea-Lot. Down below FUNSHINE can be seen running through Care Square-- EXT. CARE SQUARE/FOOD COURT/FOUNTAIN - DAY FUNSHINE, who holds a BELLYBALL (ref. episode #107a "Bellyball") races past the square, through the food court and up to the fountain-- --where GRUMPY, CHEER, and OOPSY are enjoying the day. 1 FUNSHINE Guys! Look! Check out my new bellyball move! I call it-- Funshine leaps into the air and does an elaborate, twisty, turny lay-up move-- 2 FUNSHINE (CONT.) (CONT'D) --the Funshine dunk! --he bounces the ball off the STAR-STATUE in the fountain and readies to catch it, but the ball bounces back and BONKS him on the head-- --knocking Funshine off course, he lands comically in the fountain, splashing everyone with water. 3 <impact> FUNSHINE (CONT.) (CONT D) The Care Bears (except for Grumpy) <LAUGH>. 4 CHEER, OOPSY <laughing> Grumpy wipes water off his face. 5 GRUMPY <sputter!> Next time, be careful where you're dunkin'! Cheer helps the soaking Funshine out of the fountain.
2. 6 CHEER You okay, Funshine? 7 FUNSHINE <chuckle> I'm fine. A little water doesn't stop the best bellyball player in Care-a-Lot! Oopsy twists a finger in his ear to clean the water out. 8 OOPSY Or the wettest! Funshine <LAUGHS> and picks up the ball. 9 FUNSHINE I'm going to practice hard to make sure that I am the best! Funshine runs o.s. with his bellyball, waving as he goes. 10 CHEER It's great that Funshine is feeling so enthusiastic. 11 GRUMPY Yeah. I just wish he could find someplace else to be enthusiastic. Still dripping, Grumpy shakes himself, spraying water everywhere. 12 CHEER & OOPSY <squeal! / reaction cry!> EXT. SHARE'S HOUSE - DAY WIPE TO: SHARE and TRUEHEART play jump rope as Funshine practices/shows off belly badge ball moves in the background. 13 SHARE Trueheart, you are so good at jumping rope! IN THE BG: Funshine twirls through shot to the right. 14 TRUEHEART Thanks! I couldn't do it without you, Share. IN THE BG: Funshine twirls through shot to the left.
3. Funshine crashes into the foreground, immediately becoming tangled in Share and Trueheart's jump rope. From the tangle: Quickly, he spins out of the jump rope and hands it to Share. 15 Sorry. FUNSHINE Share and Trueheart just look at each other. Funshine reacts to their expressions. 16 FUNSHINE (CONT.) (CONT D) I guess sort of interrupted your jump roping, huh? 17 SHARE A little. Do you think you could maybe find someplace else to practice? EXT. CARE SQUARE/PICNIC AREA - DAY CUT TO: Cheer and HARMONY share a picnic. Meanwhile, Funshine carefully practices/shows off in the background. 18 HARMONY These are yummy sandwiches, Cheer! 19 CHEER Thanks, Harmony! I made them with peanut butter and bumble-berry jam. Just as Harmony and Cheer are about to take a bite, Funshine's ball crashes in, bouncing all around. Harmony and Cheer end up wearing the contents of their sandwiches. SPLERK! 20 HARMONY & CHEER <reaction squeals!> 21 FUNSHINE Ooo, sorry...(reacting) Ooo, is that bumble-berry jam? As Harmony and Cheer wipe the jam out of there eyes HARMONY Yes. And it was our lunch.
4. 23 FUNSHINE Oh, I know that look, my practicing is annoying you. <sigh> I'll find someplace else to do it. INT. SMARTHEART LIBRARY - DAY WIPE TO: Funshine enters with his ball under his arm. He is immediately stopped by LOVE-A-LOT who is acting as librarian. Funshine smiles. 24 LOVE-A-LOT Oh no you don't, Funshine! You can't practice bellyball in here. This is the library and I wouldn't love all the noise it'd make. 25 FUNSHINE <giggle> Don't worry, Love-a-Lot, I'm not here to practice. I thought maybe you could help me find a place to practice where I won't bother my friends. Love-a-Lot perks up happily and steps behind her desk. 26 LOVE-A-LOT Oooo, I'd love to help! She does a quick search on her computer. The computer <DINGS>. 27 LOVE-A-LOT (CONT.) (CONT D) Perfect! Rainshine Meadows. It's the merriest place in Care-a-Lot- EXT. THE RAINSHINE MEADOWS - DAY DISSOLVE TO: <CUE HAPPY MUSIC>. As Love-a-Lot narrates, we see the Rainshine Meadows come to life. We pan across a beautiful meadow, with a bubbling stream running through it LOVE-A-LOT (V.O.) It's a beautiful meadow where the Sparkly Starfish play... Star-shaped fish swim and play as they glow and twinkle.
5. 29 LOVE-A-LOT (CONT.) (CONT D)...where the Upsy Daisies bob... Tall-standing daisies with happy smiles bob. 30 LOVE-A-LOT (CONT.) (CONT D)...and where wild bumble-berry bushes bloom! Lush, colorful cloud bushes with berries sway in the breeze. INT. SMARTHEART LIBRARY - DAY Funshine jumps up and down, excited. 31 FUNSHINE That sounds great! I'll have all the room I need to practice there! BACK TO: Love-A-Lot <LAUGHS> and then shushes herself and Funshine. 32 LOVE-A-LOT <giggle> I love that I could help, but <shhhhh> this is a library. Funshine shrinks sheepishly and smiles. 33 FUNSHINE (quieter) Oh right. She points to the computer screen showing a map of Care-a- Lot. 34 LOVE-A-LOT Just follow the old trail through Waterfall Cloud and that'll take you there. 35 FUNSHINE Thanks, Love-a-lot! He exits, leaving his bellyball behind. Love-a-Lot picks it up. 36 LOVE-A-LOT <throat clearing> Funshine races back in and gives her a big smile before taking the ball from her and racing back o.s. with it. CUT TO:
6. EXT. WATERFALL CLOUD - DAY Funshine walks through Waterfall Cloud, carrying his ball. He looks around and notices a small path near a patch of trees. Funshine looks into the woods, then happily continues on his way. EXT. WATERFALL CLOUD/RAINSHINE MEADOWS PATH - DAY TRACKING on Funshine as he walks through the wooded area on the path. He <WHISTLES> happily as he goes along. 37 FUNSHINE <happy whistling> The surrounding area grows darker and more densely overgrown. The cloud trees are replaced broken, twisted tree stumps. Brambles and smashed bushes are everywhere. <SINGING> birds swoop in -- one is immediately caught in the brambles. <SQUAWK!> Funshine frees the bird as he looks uneasy. 38 FUNSHINE (CONT.) (CONT D) Why is everything so broken and dark here? And <sniff-sniff) what's that smell? Then Funshine steps into... EXT. THE RAINSHINE MEADOWS - CONTINUOUS The Rainshine Meadows... the layout is the same as we saw earlier, except it's an ecosystem nightmare! What was once a pretty meadow is now covered in broken trees, vines, murky waters, drooping flowers, and sad bushes. 39 FUNSHINE This is Rainshine Meadows?! It smells like the inside of Grumpy's oil barrel! As Funshine takes inventory of the place -- We see Sparkly Star fishes, dimly lit, struggling to swim amongst debris. We see the Upsy Daises are, indeed, bent over and frowning. The bumble-berry bushes are just twigs with a couple of berries.
7. He looks around. 40 FUNSHINE (CONT.) (CONT D) I had no idea a sad place like this could be in Care-A-Lot. 41 FUNSHINE (CONT.) (CONT D) At least there's a lot of space. I guess I'll try to practice anyway. He does a fancy lay-up and crashes down into trash-strewn mud. 42 FUNSHINE (CONT.) (CONT D) <sputter> Ugh... He tries a running jump and splashes dirty water in his eyes. 43 FUNSHINE (CONT.) (CONT D) Everything's muddy and yucky here. He tries to leap with his ball and is distracted by a <COUGHING> Sparkly Star Fish that hobble-swims by to <SAD VIOLIN MUSIC>. 44 FUNSHINE (CONT.) (CONT D) Awww... poor little thing. 45 SPARKLY STARFISH <cough... cough...> Funshine sets down his ball and <SIGHS> as he looks around. 46 FUNSHINE <sigh> This isn't right, someone should do something. (resolved) And I'm going to be the one to do it! Determined, Funshine runs out. EXT. CARE SQUARE - DAY WIPE TO: Grumpy, Cheer, Oopsy and WINGNUT are using their belly badges to tidy up around the square. (Stage however easiest, not all character need be in one shot or shown.) Grumpy uses a storm cloud from his belly badge to rinse away trash. Cheer uses rainbow brushes to scrub away dirt, Wingnut uses his vacuum arm attachment to suck up trash with Oopsy sweeping with a broom.
8. Funshine rushes in, doing a fancy lay-up off a streetlight to get everyone's attention. 47 FUNSHINE Hey guys! I've got a project for us! Grumpy frowns and crosses his arm. 48 GRUMPY Oh no! Last time you said 'I've got a project' remember what happened! EXT. CARE-A-LOT - CARE SQUARE - DAY SMASH CUT TO: Funshine, Grumpy and Cheer stand in the square, which is FULL of <MOOING> COWS that stand around, everywhere. EXT. CARE-A-LOT - CARE SQUARE - PRESENT DAY Funshine smiles sheepishly. 49 FUNSHINE I just thought everyone would like having fresh chocolate milk! 50 CHEER Funshine, those cows ate all the flowers in Care-a-Lot. 51 FUNSHINE Well my new project has to do with flowers... and sparkly starfish, and upsy daises SMASH CUT TO: Grumpy, Cheer, and Oopsy exchange interested looks. 52 FUNSHINE (CONT.) (CONT D) It's a place called the Rainshine Meadows and it's in need of our care! Who'd like to help me clean it up? Wingnut is the first volunteer. He zips over next to Funshine. 53 WINGNUT <I'll do it!>
9. 54 FUNSHINE Thanks, Wingnut! Grumpy looks doubtful. 55 GRUMPY I've heard about Rainshine Meadows. It used to be beautiful, but then a bad storm destroyed it. 56 CHEER That's right. I've heard it's too big a job to clean up. 57 FUNSHINE Too big? Not a chance! Wingnut and I will be able to do it! ACT BREAK EXT. THE RAINSHINE MEADOWS - THE NEXT DAY FADE OUT: FADE IN: Funshine and Wingnut enter the dark meadows wearing protective cleaning gear: gloves and goggles. (NOTE: Throughout all clean-up scenes Funshine and Wingnut are in protective gear.) Wingnut looks concerned at the task before them. 58 WINGNUT <apprehensive beeping & whistle> 59 FUNSHINE I know you're feeling discouraged Wingnut, this is a big job. We'll get it done together. Funshine rubs his belly badge to create cheerful glowing ball of light. He lightly tosses it up as it brightens the area... showing off even more how badly trashed the area is. 60 WINGNUT <concerned beeping> 61 FUNSHINE You're right, it looked better in the dark. <sigh> WIPE TO:
10. EXT. THE RAINSHINE MEADOWS - LATER Funshine and Wingnut scrub muck off the Sparkly Star Fishes. Funshine scrubs a TINY FISH clean. 62 FUNSHINE There you are, clean as a whistle! The Tiny Fish <SQUEAKS> happily. Funshine smiles. 63 Next? FUNSHINE (CONT.) (CONT D) He looks up, and the line of fish stretches over the meadow...and past the horizon. 64 WINGNUT (O.S.) <panicked beeping> 65 FUNSHINE I know there's a lot of them... but We'll get it done!... eventually! Funshine reacts to what he sees as we REVEAL Wingnut nearby, covered with sparkly starfish that are stuck all over him. EXT. THE RAINSHINE MEADOWS - DAY WIPE TO: Funshine replants a few of the drooping Upsy-Daisies... once he does so they stand up tall and happy. Satisfied with his efforts he calls out to Wingnut. 66 FUNSHINE The Upsy-Daisies are looking better already. How's the cleanup in the stream coming along? REVEAL Wingnut, covered in muck, waist deep in the stream as he tries sucking up mud and gunk with his vacuum attachment arm. 67 WINGNUT <no so good.> EXT. THE RAINSHINE MEADOWS - LATER WIPE TO: Funshine and Wingnut pick trash out of the stream. The ecotrash is endless. Wingnut <BEEPS>, upset.
FUNSHINE It is a lot of debris, but don't worry, we'll get it done... Funshine hefts an armful of trash onto a towering pile of debris nearby, but this sets it off balance. It crashes over them both. 69 FUNSHINE (O.S.) (CONT.) (CONT D) (from under trash) Eventually! EXT. CARE-A-LOT - CARE SQUARE - SUNSET WIPE TO: Funshine and Wingnut trudge into Care-a-Lot, filthy and tired. But Funshine is still optimistic. 70 WINGNUT <tired beeping> 71 FUNSHINE I know this is a lot of work, but cleaning up Rainshine Meadows makes me feel good! Don't worry, tomorrow everything will be easier. Funshine and Wingnut walk up to Cheer, Oopsy, and Grumpy, who are playing bellyball. Cheer throws Funshine the ball, and he easily catches it. 72 CHEER We missed playing with you today, Funshine! 73 OOPSY Yeah, how's your project going? Grumpy folds his arms. 74 GRUMPY Are you ready to give up? 75 FUNSHINE Never! Right, Wingnut? Wingnut hiccups and his front panel pops open as water and muck pour out. BLORT! Wingnut shrugs, looking discouraged. 76 WINGNUT <burp!> <discouraged beeping>
FUNSHINE Don't worry, we'll get it cleaned up, you'll see! Funshine storms off. Wingnut shrugs again and follows. EXT. THE RAINSHINE MEADOWS - THE NEXT DAY DISSOLVE TO: Funshine and Wingnut step back into the Rainshine Meadows. Funshine is enthused, Wingnut lags behind him 78 FUNSHINE (PARTIAL O.S.) We're going to work twice as hard today... you'll see Wingnut, we are making a difference! Funshine reacts to what he see's o.s. FUNSHINE'S POV of the Meadows--- it looks just as bad as it did before... Debris is still strewn everywhere... The Upsy Daisies he replanted are now bend over and droopy... And the sparkly starfish are dirty and covered in muck as they slog through the murky stream SPARKLY STARFISH <coughing...> Funshine is crushed... he slumps. 80 FUNSHINE Nothing's changed after all our hard work. This makes me so sad. 81 WINGNUT <sad beeping> 82 FUNSHINE <sigh> I guess everyone was right, Rainshine Meadows is hopeless. Funshine sadly turns and heads away. Wingnut pauses, then sadly follows his friend back to Care-a-Lot... neither notices as we PAN DOWN TO SHOW FUNSHINE (O.S.) (CONT.) (CONT D) We didn't make a difference after all.
13. One clean Sparkly Starfish in a small clear section of the stream as it pokes it's "head" up watching them leave. EXT. CARE-A-LOT - CARE SQUARE - DAY CUT TO: Cheer, Grumpy, Share, Oopsy happily play bellyball. Share produces a big lollypop from her belly badge and uses it to bat the ball into the hoop! The ball reappears in Cheer's quadrant, she grabs it, but stops playing at what she see's o.s. 84 CHEER Hey, where's Funshine going? Across the way, a sad-looking Funshine shuffles off toward his home. Share and the others watch him go. 85 SHARE Maybe he's done cleaning up the Rainshine Meadows. Cheer calls out to Funshine. 86 CHEER (calling out) Hey Funshine, how 'bout a game?! Funshine doesn't even stop, he just frowns as he continues on. 87 FUNSHINE I don't wanna play, I just want to be left alone! The others exchanges concerned looks as Funshine's reaction. 88 CHEER He doesn't look too happy. 89 SHARE Did we make him mad? Wingnut rolls into shot joining them. 90 WINGNUT <sad beeping>
OOPSY Funshine gave up? He's not cleaning anymore? 92 <yes> WINGNUT 93 GRUMPY I knew that would happen. Rainshine Meadows can't be helped. Cheer shakes her head, she's concerned. 94 CHEER I've never known Funshine to give up on anything. 95 SHARE He must be really frustrated. I bet he feels bad inside, and disappointed that we didn't help him. 96 GRUMPY I hate seeing Funshine unhappy. Maybe we should take a look at Rainshine Meadows. EXT. THE RAINSHINE MEADOWS - DAY WIPE TO: Cheer, Grumpy, Share, Oopsy, and Wingnut arrive in the Rainshine Meadows. Everything is still desolate. 97 GRUMPY See? I told you, it's hopeless! The look around at the debris-strewn area, and then something catches Cheer's attention... The clean Sparkly Starfish waves to her SPARKLY STARFISH <happy urgent squeaks!> Cheer knees down next to the Starfish. 99 CHEER So Funshine helped you? 100 SPARKLY STARFISH <agreeing squeaks!>
15. The Tiny Fish waves a little fin -- follow me! The Care Bears quickly follow the Tiny Fish. Bobbing along downstream, the Tiny Fish points out the small bits of progress that Funshine and Wingnut made. She points to several Upsy-Daisy plants that are happy and full. 101 SHARE The Upsy-Daisies are blooming! The Tiny Fish points out a small section of the stream that isn't filled with trash. 102 GRUMPY Hmmph... and there's a part of the stream that actually is a stream! 103 OOPSY Funshine started to make a difference.. Oopsy loses his footing and tumbles over into the stream... but not in a clean part. He emerges covered in muck. 104 OOPSY (CONT.) (CONT D) But there's still a lot of yuck to clean up. Grumpy rubs his belly badge, creating a cloud that showers Oopsy clean, then it spins into a tornado that blow-drys him clean. 105 Thanks! OOPSY (CONT.) (CONT D) Next the cloud moves under a fallen log that blocks the stream and lifts it to the side. Clean water starts flowing again. Grumpy rubs his chin, thinking GRUMPY I gotta admit. Funshine had the right idea after all. If we all work at it, Rainshine Meadows can be saved. EXT. THE RAINSHINE MEADOWS - LATER WIPE TO: Grumpy, Cheer, Share, and Oopsy wear gloves and goggles as they work to clean up Rainshine Meadows.
16. Cheer uses her rainbow belly badge to slide a pile of debris into a big garbage bag that Share holds. Grumpy creates a storm-cloud that turns into a mini-tornado that whips around cleaning up a section of the meadows... as it passes by it we see the area actually turn greener and brighter. From the woods emerges an excited Wingnut, he leads a reluctant Funshine back into the meadows. 107 WINGNUT <excited beeping> 108 FUNSHINE I told you, I've given up. It's hopeless! It's...<gasp!> Funshine stops, surprised. The Rainshine Meadows are now almost perfectly clean. And his friends are working hard. Cheers sees Funshine and happily takes his hand. 109 FUNSHINE (CONT.) (CONT D) It's beautiful! 110 CHEER <giggle> You inspired us, Funshine! PANNING RAINSHINE MEADOWS: It's nearly clean, it will become a lush garden-spot again: the stream bubbles along, sparkly starfish leap and play, upsy-daisies bob happily in the breeze.. Share smiles at Funshine. 111 SHARE We're sorry we let you down. You did a wonderful thing here. 112 GRUMPY Mmmmph. I have to admit, you were right. We could make a difference. Funshine, re-energized, smiles and hugs his friends. 113 FUNSHINE Thanks, guys! Oopsy tosses Funshine a belly badge ball. 114 OOPSY Hey, wanna celebrate with a game of bellyball?
FUNSHINE Oh you know it! Funshine does a fancy lay-up, but falls fumbles the ball and falls into the clean clear stream. <splash> 116 FUNSHINE (CONT.) (CONT D) Guess I'm a little out of practice. Several Starfish happily leap around Funshine in the stream as the others enjoy a good laugh. 117 CARE BEARS <happy laughing> WIDER on this beautiful setting as Wingnut helps Funshine out of the stream and they ready to play bellyball. PULL BACK showing more of the lush flora in the meadows as BUTTERFLIES flitter past and we... THE END FADE OUT:
