FADE IN: THE CARE BEARS King Grumpy Episode #104b EXT. S GARAGE - DAY ESTABLISHING SHOT - OOPSY is outside the garage, struggling with a tangle of garden hose that s attached to an outside spigot. From inside the garage we hear-- (O.S.) What did you call it again, Grumpy? INT. S GARAGE - DAY tightens a bolt on a funny-looking Dr. Seuss-ish type invention, it s a cross between an accordion, bagpipes, and a pipe organ., FUNSHINE, SHARE, and look on. A Bubble-Phonium! Funshine and the others look utterly confounded. FUNSHINE A bubble-what -ium? Bubble-Phonium. What s a phonium? Share turns to her friends. SHARE He s not making any sense. (beat) Maybe he needs a hug. Grumpy inserts the last piece of pipe into the device No I need some water, where s Oopsy?! REVEAL Oopsy nearby, completely knotted up from head to toe in the garden hose (with sprayer attachment). OOPSY I had trouble with the hose. Wingnut comes to Oopsy s aide and untangles him, causing Oopsy to spin like a top before landing in Wingnut s arms.

2. <beeping> OOPSY <Whoooaaaah!> Thanks! Grumpy takes the hose, opens a gas-cap like lid on his device and sticks the sprayer end of the hose into it, filling it with water. FUNSHINE It runs on water? Sort of. Grumpy removes the hose and flips a switch. The Bubble-Phonium bounces and pumps as it begins producing bubbles from its pipes. Share and the others react with excitement! Grumpy smiles proudly. SHARE It makes bubbles! Musical bubbles! The bubbles start popping and when they do, each pop corresponds to a musical note, creating a JAUNTY TUNE. Funshine, Share, Cheer, and Oopsy are enthralled by this. CARE BEARS <impressed ooos & aahs> Funshine, Cheer, and Share dance around in glee. Oopsy claps his hands in time, and Wingnut clanks his hand on his metal head. As they enjoy the music we FRAME UP ON the Bubble-Phonium... one of its bags is expanding, bigger... and bigger... The Bubble-Phonium starts to WHEEZE and SHUDDER. The Care Bears notice the huge, expanding device and stop dancing. Is it supposed to do that? Do what? (then noticing) Uh oh-- EXT. S GARAGE - DAY SPLORSH! A flood of soapy water explodes out from every opening in Grumpy s garage in an instant tidal burst that washes Grumpy and

3. the others out into the street. CARE BEARS <screams and walla!> The group sits up, recovering. They are a wet, soapy mess. <sputtering> Bubblin beetles! What happened?! SHARE Your bubble machine threw-up. Maybe it had too much phonium in it. Grumpy gets to his feet, but he slips and lands on his butt. Whoa--- <impact> Wingnut starts for Grumpy, wanting to help him. Grumpy waves him off. <worried beeping> S okay, Wingnut- I m fine. But Wingnut is already on the move and slides in the water, heading right for Grumpy--- <panicked beeping> Wingnut slips and runs over Grumpy s foot! Grumpy howls in pain! <Eeeeeeeooooow!> Now I m not fine! Wingnut lands in some nearby bushes. He reacts to what he s just done to Grumpy, looking worried and concerned. <concerned beeping> WIPE TO: INT. S HOUSE - S BEDROOM - DAY lies in bed, his swollen & sore foot propped up on a

4. pillow. Cheer looks it over carefully. She touches it slightly. Grumpy recoils in pain. <Eeeeeeoooooow!> Give it to me straight. How bad is it? Well, I m not going to lie to you, Grumpy, it s... it s a boo-boo. Funshine, Share, and Oopsy exchange concerned looks. FUNSHINE, SHARE, OOPSY <oh no!/that s bad/oh dear!> Wingnut hangs his head, sad for what s happened. <sad concerned beeping> Funshine puts a supportive hand on Wingnut s shoulder. FUNSHINE Oh, it s okay Wingnut. It was an accident. You were just trying to help Grumpy. SHARE (innocently) But instead you hurt him. (off Funshine s gaze) What?... She grimaces, realizing what she s just said. SHARE (CONT.) But you didn t mean to. Cheer touches her rainbow belly badge and pulls off a rainbow strip that she uses it to bandage up Grumpy s foot. A little rainbow care will make it heal faster. You need to stay off it until it's better. Grumpy waves off this idea and starts to get out of bed. I can't sit around - I ve got things to do, stuff to fix-- owww! He plops back down onto the bed.

5. Wingnut zips over by Grumpy. <excited beeping> That s nice of you Wingnut, but I don t need your help. I ll manage. Wingnut slumps again. Oopsy chimes in. OOPSY Wingnut feels bad. It would make him happy if you d let him help you, just til you re better. Grumpy looks at the slumped, and pouting Wingnut. Wingnut lights up, overjoyed. Well... okay, just til I m better. EXT. S GARAGE - DAY From inside can be heard clanking, sweeping, banging, etc. DISSOLVE TO: INT. 'S GARAGE - DAY Wielding a mop, Wingnut zips around the garage cleaning up the mess left over from the Bubble-Phonium. With his CRUTCH nearby, Grumpy rests in a chair next to what remains of his Bubble-Phonium, but he s more interested in watching Wingnut who s zipping all over the place. Whoa, slow down, this isn t a race. Wingnut stops. Not only is the soapy mess gone, but the room is spotless and organized. He bows to Grumpy. <proud beeping> Wingnut zips out of the room. Wow, done already? Well, if it were a race you d win. INT. 'S KITCHEN - CONTINUOUS Grumpy hobbles on his crutch into his kitchen to find Wingnut

6. washing the dishes. Where d you go? Hey, you don t need to do my- In a blur of soapsuds and dishes Wingnut finishes the dishes leaving them stacked and shining. (CONT.) -dishes. Thanks but- hey! Before Grumpy can say anything else, Wingnut zips out of the room. INT. S HOUSE - DAY Series of fast cuts. Grumpy watches in stunned silence as Wingnut: - Vacuums everywhere in a flash. - Does his laundry and folds his towels. - Dusts everything, including Grumpy. - Shakes out rugs. - Cleans windows. - Fluffs pillows. Wingnut finishes by combing Grumpy's hair and even brushing Grumpy s teeth (with a special robo-brush arm attachment). Everywhere Grumpy looks, things sparkle <DING>. Grumpy is dumbfounded. It s so bright he has to squint at the shine. Wingnut blurs OUT OF SHOT and returns with a pair of SUNGLASSES for Grumpy. WOW! When you help a guy, you really help a guy! <happy beeps of agreement!> DISSOLVE TO: INT. 'S GARAGE - DAY Grumpy sits on a stool, his leg propped up under a pillow on another stool. He looks over his damaged Bubble-Phonium. I wonder what made this thing go all haywire...

7. He notices Wingnut nearby cleaning the workbench. (CONT.) Hmmm. Good job there, Wingnut. Cheer and Funshine poke their heads into the Garage. Hey, Grumpy, howya feeling? Oh, I m fine now that I ve got Wingnut helping me. Wingnut gives them a wave with his cleaning rag. <greeting beeps!> He s been a big help! I don t know what I d do without him! Cheer bends down and removes the bandage from Grumpy s foot. It looks much better than before, back to normal now. Good! Your foot looks okay! FUNSHINE So you won t be needing Wingnut anymore. What? No! Grumpy looks over at Wingnut who s still cleaning the workbench. (CONT.) I m mean... um, my foot s still a little sore. Cheer looks confused. Really? Well... I guess we ll check back later then. You do that. Wingnut and I will be here. Hard at work. Wingnut stops to nod his head in agreement.

8. <beeps agreement> Cheer and Funshine exit. Grumpy looks over at the workbench and points. You missed a spot. Wingnut reacts to this and goes back to cleaning as we... FADE OUT: ACT BREAK FADE IN: EXT. 'S HOUSE - FRONT DOOR - DAY Oopsy knocks on Grumpy's front door. Grumpy answers the door. OOPSY Hi! How s the foot, Grumpy? Grumpy gets a pained look on his face and reaches for his crutch. Oh, it s um... still sore. OOPSY Oh, I m sorry. I was wondering if Wingnut can come out and play? Woo Hoo World has a new ride and... Sorry Oopsy, Wingnut s busy at the moment. Grumpy hooks a thumb toward the roof. PAN UP to Wingnut who is busy adjusting Grumpy's satellite dish. <chirps hello > Every time Wingnut tweaks the dish's position, a different TV image pops up on Wingnut s belly screen. (no recognizable copyrighted characters or images though.) A disappointed look takes Oopsy's face. OOPSY Oh, okay. I ll come back later when he isn't busy.

9. Oopsy leaves. Grumpy calls up to Wingnut. While your up there, clean out the gutters too! WIPE TO: EXT. 'S GARAGE - LATER Grumpy is still on a stool while Wingnut is on his back under the Bubble-Phonium like a car mechanic. Wingnut, covered in grease, rolls out from under the machine and holds up a tiny bolt. <beeping> Grumpy takes the bolt and examines it. That must have been what caused the Bubble-Phonium to break. This Q bolt s too small! <beeps a question> I d need my Q Bolt Expander to make it fit. Grumpy leans down, looking under his Bubble-Phonium, not watching Wingnut. (CONT.) But that mean ol Grizzle stole it! Wingnut considers this and before Grumpy notices, he rolls out the door. Grumpy stands back up and turns to find Wingnut gone. (CONT.) And asking him to give that expander back would be nothing but trouble -- (pause) Wingnut? Cheer Bear and Funshine <KNOCK> on the side of Grumpy s open garage door. Hi, Grumpy! How s your -- Still sore. Hard to walk on.

10. Funshine looks around for Wingnut. FUNSHINE And is Wingnut still helping you? Well, of course he is! (looking around) Where d he ran off to? There s chores he should be doing. Cheer folds her arms and gives Grumpy a questioning look. Grumpy gets indignant. Grumpy, you re not taking advantage of Wingnut s kindness to help around your house, are you? What?! Of course not! I d never do such a thing! FUNSHINE I didn t think so. Friends don t do that to friends. Right. (pointed) Because if they did, just imagine how you d feel if someone took advantage of you. Grumpy swallows hard, looking a little guilty. Funshine and Cheer head for the open door and wave bye. FUNSHINE Hope your foot gets better soon! Grumpy waves goodbye. Beat - Grumpy looks around, wrestling with his conscience. (to himself) I m not taking advantage of Wingnut, am I? (beat, brighter) Naaaaah, of course I m not! WIPE TO: INT. 'S BEDROOM - NIGHT SLOW PUSH IN on a "sleeping" Grumpy as he tosses and turns in his bed, muttering to himself.

11. <half-asleep strained babble: it s not me... I m the one who got hurt... how I d feel... how I d feel... how I d...> DISSOLVE TO: INT. LARGE CHAMBER - NIGHT ('S DREAM) Strangely shaped shadows fall across this cavernous room. PUSH IN on a red curtain at the far end of the room. It parts to REVEALan over-sized throne chair with Wingnut perched on top. CLOSER - Wingnut holds a scepter and wears a crown. Grumpy stands nearby, like a servant. < inquisitive beeps> You need my help? Of course. Friends always help friends. OTS as he points his scepter at some o.s. object. WHIP PAN to a large stone statue of Wingnut. Grumpy enters SHOT and looks up at the mighty sculpture. (O.S.) <commanding beeps and boops> Hmmm, nice statue. You want me to move it to the other side of the room? OTS looking at an exaggeratedly long room. Grumpy strains to move the massive statue across the room. (CONT.) Okay... (then) <pushing efforts> Wingnut impatiently crosses his arms. <anxious beeping> Grumpy continues pushing the statue across the large chamber. Faster? <sigh> I m trying! WIDER - Grumpy finally gets the statue in its new position.

12. Wingnut rubs his metal chin. <unsatisfied beeps> Grumpy s eyes go wide with dismay. But... this is where you said to put it. Now you want it over there?! DRAMATIC ANGLE on Wingnut, gesturing angrily for Grumpy to move! (O.S.) <impatient beeps> Grumpy jumps-to, pushing the statue. Faster?! <pushing efforts> SERIES OF SHOTS, showing Grumpy pushing the statue all over the room faster and faster and FASTER UNTIL--- (O.S.) <ANGRY COMMANDING BEEPING!> -the statue slams into the wall and breaks into pieces! SMASH CUT TO: INT. 'S BEDROOM - M0RNING Grumpy bolts up from his terrible dream. Whistling Whippersnits! Cheer and Funshine are right... I ve been taking advantage of Wingnut! Jumping out of bed, Grumpy rushes out of the room. (CONT.) I gotta apologize to him and set things straight! INT. S GARAGE - MORNING Grumpy looks all around for Wingnut, but he s not there.

13. Wingnut... Wingnut? Hmmm. Maybe he s still at home. WIPE TO: EXT. OOPSY S HOUSE - MORNING Grumpy dashes up to Oopsy s door and pounds hard on it. (calling out) Wingnut! A sleepy-eyed Oopsy opens the door. Grumpy's jaw drops. OOPSY Grumpy? What s wrong? I need to talk to Wingnut. OOPSY Oh, he left. Said he was going to get u m... an R nail reducer? Q bolt expander? OOPSY That s it. Oh no... that means he s gone to--! SMASH CUT TO: EXT. GRIZZLE S LAIR - MORNING The lair hangs in morning sky with the rising sun behind it. Wingnut flies toward the lair, his copter blade top is spinning. EXT. GRIZZLE S LAIR - DECK - MORNING W ingnut lands and rolls up to the door. He politely KNOCKS. From inside can be hears clanging and rustling then the door is flung open by GRIZZLE, who has a NAPKIN tucked under his chin. GRIZZLE (PARTIAL O.S.) What?! I m having breakfast- my oatmeal is getting cold! Grizzle reacts in shock to seeing Wingnut. Wingnut waves.

14. <beep of hello> GRIZZLE <startled scream of shock!> Grizzle recovers, removes his napkin and leers smugly. GRIZZLE (CONT.) Well, Wingnut! My old robot sidekick! So, you ve finally decided to come back, huh? Wingnut shakes his head no. <no> GRIZZLE That s good, because you ve been replaced! Say hello to Mr. Beaks! He holds up MR. BEAKS to show Wingnut. Mr. Beak s head falls off. GRIZZLE (CONT.) <scream!> Mr. Beaks! Grizzle quickly reattaches Mr. Beak s head. He looks relieved. Wingnut asks his favor. <questioning beeps> Grizzle pauses to think... GRIZZLE (thinking) A Q Bold Expander? I have one that I stole a long time ago, it s on my work bench. <more questioning beeps> Grizzle is emphatic at first, then an idea forms and he becomes villainously nice. GRIZZLE No you can t have it! (pause) I mean, of course you can borrow it, Wingnut. Please, help yourself. Grizzle bows graciously, gesturing for Wingnut to go inside.

15. <thanks!> Wingnut zips past a smiling Grizzle and into the Lair. CUT TO: INT. GRIZZLE S LAIR - HANGER LAB - NIGHT Wingnut searches a workbench where he finds the Q Bolt Expander: a combination reverse vice, hammer, and saw thingy. He grabs it, opens his belly door/screen, and tosses it inside. He turns to leave but finds his way blocked by a smiling Grizzle. GRIZZLE I said you could borrow it, I didn t say you could leave! Grizzle pulls a lever causing an IRON CAGE to drop down over Wingnut, trapping the little robot! GRIZZLE (CONT.) <evil laugh!> EXT. GRIZZLE S LAIR - NIGHT The lair hangs in the night sky, with the moon overhead. DISSOLVE TO: <snoring> GRIZZLE (O.S.) INT. GRIZZLE S LAIR - HANGER LAB - NIGHT At the far end of the lab, Grizzle is tucked into bed, holding onto Mr. Beaks like a teddy-bear as he sleeps. GRIZZLE <more snoring> WE PAN ACROSS THE LAB to show Wingnut, still trapped in the cage, and looking sad. Moonlight from the nearby window shines on him. <sad beeping> A shadow falls over Wingnut, he panics, thinking it s Grizzle--- but then we reveal that it s Grumpy. Wingnut! I had to wait for Grizzle to fall asleep, I m here to save you.

16. < excited beeps> I want to apologize. You re my friend and I took advantage of you and that was wrong of me. Can you ever forgive me? Wingnut pauses, thinking... Grumpy s concerned... then Wingnut gives him a little smile, then he nods and smiles big! (CONT.) Still friends? Wingnut opens his chest door and hands Grumpy the Expander. Grumpy smiles at getting his tool returned. (CONT.) Well I ll be... my Q Bolt Expander! You got it back! <you bet!> Grumpy looks over the cage. Now I need to find some way to get you out of there. Grumpy tries the cage door--- no use. He looks around the area. (CONT.) There s gotta be a key... or maybe I could bend the bars, but for that I d need a- Grumpy and Wingnut get the same idea at the same moment, both looking at the Expander in Grumpy s hand. (CONT.) Q bolt expander! <happy beeps!> Their attention is drawn to Grizzle snoring again- <snoring> GRIZZLE (O.S.) Grizzle shifts positions in his bed, rolling over then settling.

17. GRIZZLE (CONT.) <mumbling> then <snoring> Grumpy places the Expander between the cage bars. He gives the tool s handle a turn--- its jaws spread, bending the bars apart, wide enough for Wingnut to escape! <happy beeps> Wingnut extends his copter rotors, grabs Grumpy and out the window they fly. FRAME UP on Grizzle, still asleep, hugging Mr. Beaks. <snoring> GRIZZLE DISSOLVE TO: EXT. CARE BEAR SQUARE - DAY Using the Q Bolt Expander, Grumpy makes one last adjustment to his Bubble-Phonium. Grumpy sticks the hose into its opening and begins filling it with water again. The Bubble-Phonium s ready to go! Wingnut, Oopsy, Share, Funshine, and Cheer stand before the silly invention. Cheer turns to her friends. I still want to know what a Phonium is. Grumpy turns on the device. It begins spewing bubbles and playing a HAPPY TUNE. Funshine, Cheer, Oopsy, and Share start dancing. Grumpy smiles to Wingnut and gestures for him to join the others. Go have some fun, Wingnut. I m going to make everything up to you. Whatever you need, robot tune-ups, oil changes, new tire- you name it. I owe you... you re a good friend. Wingnut gives Grumpy a hug of thanks.

18. <happy beep of thanks!> Wingnut joins in, but accidentally rolls over Grumpy s foot again. Grumpy grabs his throbbing foot and cries out: Yeeeeeeeeeooooooouch! An apologetic Wingnut immediately zips back over to Grumpy. <apologetic beeps and boops> Grumpy puts his hand on Wingnut s shoulder. No, no, that s okay. It was an accident. Just a bruise, I m fine. <more beeps and boops> Grumpy thinks about it, then... Well of course you can still help me around my shop if you like, but everything s nice and clean, why would I need--- Wingnut points o.s. as we WHIP PAN TO: THE BUBBLE-PHONIOM is expanding again, but we can clearly see that the hose is still attached to it. (O.S.) (CONT.) I forgot to shut the water off! EXT. S GARAGE - DAY SPLORSH! A flood of soapy water explodes out from every opening in Grumpy s garage in an instant tidal burst that washes Grumpy and the others out into the street. A wet and soapy Grumpy sits up, scowls, and folds his arms. Aw, grumblebums! THE END FADE OUT:
