1 Enid Moose News Enid, Oklahoma, Loyal Order of the Moose #1740 March 2018 From the desk of the Administrator Thanks to everyone for the outstanding support we received last month. Things are really going great right now and we truly appreciate your help. We are going to continue having more great events here at your Lodge. Our biggest event last month was the Elvis Valentines dinner/dance. I have never seen the ballroom so full since I have been here. We took in over $ that night, which is great. After the cost of goods, we made around $ for the Lodge. We also signed 6 new LOOM and 2 WOTM members. March is going to be another good month. Every Monday in March, Dick and Rhonda Craig will be giving Dance Lessons in the Ballroom. There will be four weeks of lessons. They are free for members. For nonmembers, they will cost $ If the individual wants to join our Fraternity, Dick and Rhonda will donate that money to cover the cost of enrolling. So, they not only get the dance lessons, but they can also become a member of the Moose. The lessons will be from 7-8 p.m. Then from 8-10 p.m., there will be a CD Dance so you can practice what you re learning. There will be people available during the dance to help you as needed. If you are interested in the Lessons, please call Rhonda Craig at to reserve your spot. Our next Steak night and Dance will be March 3rd. The band will be Bobby Bennett and the Borrowed Outlaws. They play Country & Western as well as 60 s music. Admission to the dance will be $10.00 per person. If you plan to join us for Steak Night, please RSVP to the Lodge as soon as possible. March 9th, Buck Goucher will be playing in the Social Quarters following the Moose Legion Gathering. March 31st will be our annual Easter egg hunt, so be sure and mark your calendar for that and bring the Kids and Grandkids out to find what the Easter bunny has left. Sorry, for the short letter this month. I m sure some of you are glad it s short, but February was a short month and I ran out of time. REMEMBER TO DO SOMETHING GOOD FOR SOMEONE EACH DAY. Ben Social Quarters Dress Code No clothing with obscene, profane, or offensive language or art. 2 Why Do We Have So Many Rules? By MIKE RIOS / Director, Membership We often hear the question - Why are there so many rules? - and understand the frustration. It used to be different. We just did what we thought was best and learned from our mistakes. Rules are usually formulated when someone makes a mistake. If you look at many personnel manuals, most rules are as a result of an incident that caused issues so we put rules in place to protect others from suffering the same pitfalls. For example, did you know that our fraternal units are corporations and as such are required to have meetings? Did you know that we are required to pay sales tax? Many of our rules come directly from the IRS in order to protect our tax-exempt status and are a direct result of our Mission Statement. The question is often asked, why other fraternities don t have the same rules. The answer to that is that all companies don t have the same rule and their structures are different. Think about it: What other fraternal organization do you know of that takes care of over 200 children on an ongoing basis, and serves its members like we do at Moosehaven? We have an obligation to protect our interest and are required to abide by certain rules and regulations in order to maintain our status. When I grew up, we would ride in the car, lay on the back dash, jump around and do whatever we liked. Our seat belt was our parents arm and it didn t always work. Once our highways became more dangerous, safety regulations were put into place to protect us. Now, we have child seats and seat belts. Those are the rules. So the next time you become frustrated about the rules, think about what they protect; our most precious assets - the children at Mooseheart and our seniors at Moosehaven who depend on us every day. Enid Sooner Moose Legion 147 Committee I miss one meeting of our Moose Legion Committee got all sorts of stuff done. We had the Sooner Moose Legion 147 President Dewey Jantz in attendance. President Dewey spoke to us about how well we ran our gatherings and reminded the Sooner Moose Legion meets in Tulsa April 20th, 21st and 22nd. International Moose Legion President Mike Hauf will be in attendance. Dewey also mentioned the Sooner Moose Legion will host the International Moose Legion Conference in Oklahoma City in November 2018 and invited all Moose Legion members to attend and volunteer to help out Sooner Moose Legion with the activities planned for the convention. Our Moose of the Month is Brother Chris Kirkley. Chris has really stepped up his efforts in our Lodge. He has been helping with food preparation in the kitchen. He has donated his time at all our special events. Has signed up numerous new Lodge members and Moose Legion members. Chris is responsible for some of the young new faces we see at our Lodge. It is young folks like Chris that will be the next generation of folks that will keep our Lodge going and growing. It takes a lot of new faces young and old to pay the bills in this big Ole Building. Thank you Chris for stepping up and helping our Lodge grow and be successful. Speaking of a good Moose Legion member we have not seen in a while. Todd Garber s name was drawn for the split pot drawing and guess what he missed the meeting and missed out on the money. Ah! So sad Todd, with that big of a windfall you could have bought us a round in the Social Quarters and had money left over to take your lovely wife to dinner. Better Luck next time. Miss you guys get out and see us the next time you all are in town. We are going to gather again March 09 eat at 6:00 p.m. and a short gathering at 7:00 p.m. Don t know what s for supper yet but you can bet it will be good. Our Committee has also agreed to pay for live entertainment on Gathering nights for the next two months. So plan on coming out eating, gathering and enjoying some entertainment from some of our local talent. Man I love teasing you all don t know what we are eating or what kind of entertainment we are going to have. You are just going to have to come out and see. We do not charge a cover charge for entertainment in the Social Quarters and all members welcome. The meal if you choose to eat is $6.00. Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties. ERICH FROMM Sooner Moose Legion Assistant Secretary Utah Cook
3 Women of the Moose Hope everyone had a Happy New Year and Valentine s Day. On February 10th we had steak night and Elvis was in the house. The ballroom was packed. It was a fun night of food, fellowship, music and dancing. March 3rd is Steak Night $18 per person and a Dance in the Ballroom $10 per person. Starting in March every Monday 7pm Rhonda and Dick Craig are giving dance lessons in the Ballroom. Free for members and $55 for non-members but then they will put that money towards a membership. Then every Monday 8pm to 10pm you can practice your moves you ve learned. The LOOM and the WOTM have lots of entertainment planned for the next few months. March 9th is Moose Legion meal in the Social Quarters and Buck Goucher playing from 8pm to 11pm.
