Instead of rushing out to buy reeds or valve oil at the last minute, consider band items for those stockings hung by the fireplace. Following is a partial list of items that can be found at your local music store which may also share additional ideas for your budding musician. Reeds Cork Grease Slide Grease PENCILS!! Drum Sticks Valve Oil Sanimist Disinfectant Spray Snark Instrument Tuner Brass/Woodwind Instrument Care Moon Gel (for your percussionist) After they are done opening presents, ask your student to play for you! Instruments need to be taken care of over winter break so they don t have frozen valves or slides. Pads might deteriorate faster and rods will become sluggish without constant use. Besides, instruments get lonely over the break and need to be played. I want to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!! These bite-sized scholarships are called Micro-Scholarships. When students add achievements to their Portfolio on Raise.me, they could be eligible to earn Micro-Scholarships towards our partner colleges. These achievements can include good grades, participating in clubs, playing on a sports team, volunteering, or even starting a club. They can include AP or IB courses, honors classes, and college-level courses, too. This program is free to students and high schools. Never mind, I ll buy my own presents Senior Zach Moore has been selected for the 2016 U.S. Army All- American Marching Band.

On Thursday, November 19, Zach was honored in front of Army representatives, bandmates, family and media in a ceremony at Glendale auditorium.

He s extremely talented and dedicated to music. We are very proud of Zach and wish him the very best as he performs at halftime during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on January 9.

In addition to this national honor, Zach has been identified at an international level and chosen to perform in the High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall in February, 2016.

ZACH MOORE Senior Night Photo by Brian Derenski ~Helen Keller Dear Santa, I ve been good this year. Ok, most of the time. Once in a while. Never mind, I ll buy my own presents Senior Zach Moore has been selected for the 2016 U.S. Army All- American Marching Band. He joins a select group featuring the top 125 marching band students, and only eight trombonists, from Student Story across America. On Thursday, November 19, Zach was honored in front of Army representatives, bandmates, family and media in a ceremony at Glendale auditorium. Since its inaugural year, the AAAMB has selected only 18 students from Missouri. I can t think of a better person who deserves this more than Zach, said Mr. Cronkhite, Director of bands. He s extremely talented and dedicated to music. We are very proud of Zach and wish him the very best as he performs at halftime during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on January 9. The show will be available at following the game. In addition to this national honor, Zach has been identified at an international level and chosen to perform in the High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall in February, This series was established to showcase some of the most talented student performers in high school today. Zach s selection to the U.S. Army All-American Marching Band in not only a huge accomplishment for him personally but also for both our music department and school. Zach s hard work, which has been supported by his band instructors, Troy Cronkhite and Katrina Benecasa, is a celebration for The Flock! stated Dr. Natalie Cauldwell, Principal of Glendale High School. I am equally excited for Zach to represent GHS in the Carnegie Hall Honors Program. Both accolades are well deserved and also serve to highlight all of the great things happening here at GHS. With a great sense of humor, Zach is both humble and skilled. He is but one of many great student musicians at Glendale, and we thank him for his hard work and accomplishments. Way to go, Zach! No matter how you celebrate or where your plans take you, the holiday season can bring a little stress along the way. The Glendale band has just what you need.

The performance begins at 7 pm in the Glendale auditorium and there will be a mixer with refreshments to follow in the cafeteria.

Gentlemen should wear a tie and the color is optional. If the ladies prefer a dress, the length should be mid-calf or longer. Please contact Mr. Cronkhite for assistance with attire if needed.

10 T is the season to be jolly...and busy, wishful, thankful, looking forward and reflecting back, baking cookies, catching colds, getting stuck in traffic, spending time with family and friends, feeling overwhelmed. No matter how you celebrate or where your plans take you, the holiday season can bring a little stress along the way. The Glendale band has just what you need. Listening to music is a fantastic way to relax, as is spending quality time with loved ones. On Monday, December 14, you can do both at the Winter Concert. The performance begins at 7 pm in the Glendale auditorium and there will be a mixer with refreshments to follow in the cafeteria. Snuggling up with the handmade afghan pictured below would be another great way to relax so be sure and enter the raffle! Concert attire for students includes black pants and shoes with a white shirt. Gentlemen should wear a tie and the color is optional. Be who you are, say what you feel, because those who mind don t matter and those who matter don t mind ~Dr. Suess D on t miss the Glendale band performing in the Springfield Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 12. Beginning on South Avenue at Elm, the parade will continue through Park Central Square to Jordan Valley Park. Downtown Springfield is celebrating its 50th Christmas parade! While the event starts at 2pm, band members should arrive at GHS by 12:45pm. Traveling to the parade by bus, the students will return to Glendale for unloading at 4 pm. WHAT GOES ON AT THE OFFICE BETWEEN DEC. 26 AND 31.
