Registration: tinyurl.com/jazzbandregistration REGISTRATION ENTRY FEE STRUCTURE $150 per ensemble if registered prior to midnight Friday preceding Christmas. $200 per ensemble if registered after the Friday preceding Christmas and before the 3rd Monday in January. Colleen Hecht, Treasurer NWIBA Storm Lake High School 621 Tornado Dr Storm Lake, IA Payment sent to NWIBA treasurer: LATE PAYMENT of Registration Fee and/or IBA & NWIBA dues By registering for the festival and access to these official Rules & Procedures, it will constitute your knowledge of the time schedule for registration, fees and dues to be completed and subsequence consequences if such is not completed. The committee will generate a reminder to you in this regard. If you fail to still meet the payment of registration fees and/or IBA/NWIBA current annual dues by the 3rd Monday in January, the following will occur: NWIBA President will draft an to your administration (Cc director) stating the registration procedures and not completing such. We ask for your assistance in securing the registration fees (IBA/NWIBA dues) for this festival. It is not the intent of the Northwest Iowa Bandmasters Association to penalize the students for this lapse. We have scheduled a time for the band to perform at the NWIBA Jazz Band Festival on Monday February 15. However, we ask your assistance in having the registration (dues) process completed by February 1,

2 p. 2 of 5 otherwise we will be required to remove the Coda High School Jazz Band from the schedule. DIRECTOR QUALIFICATIONS The director of the ensemble must be a paid member of IBA & NWIBA. See paragraph above about late payment (by the 3rd Monday in January) of registration fees and/or IBA/NWIBA current annual dues. SCHOOLS ELIGIBLE The festival is open to all NWIBA Middle School and High School Jazz Bands. The Festival is sanctioned by the IHSMA. RANKINGS Bands are ranked by three adjudicators providing written and verbal comments. There are 100 points available per ballot using the same standard as the Iowa Jazz Championships Ballot. The rankings are determined by ordinal ranking of the three judges. The ordinal ranking from each judge is added to create an ordinal score. The bands are then placed from lowest total ordinal score to highest in order. First place will have the lowest ordinal score, and so on. If there is a tie in the ordinal scoring, the first tiebreaker is total points, the second tiebreaker will be the Rhythm Section and Solo Caption total. AWARDS 1st through 5th placings in each class are announced at the Awards Ceremony. Top three receive a trophy and 4th & 5th receive a plaque. Outstanding soloists, section awards and outstanding performance non-soloist awards will be given certificates in the directors packets. A scores compilation of all bands is published/posted on the NWIBA website. The Awards Ceremony for Middle School will be held immediately following the finish of the Middle School bands. The High School awards will be held at approximately 6:00pm. Ballots will be available at the Awards Ceremony. If you are unable to to be in attendance, ballots and outstanding performance certificates will be mailed or distributed by Mid Bell music Judge s verbal comments will be online following the awards ceremony.

3 p. 3 of 5 IOWA JAZZ CHAMPIONSHIPS QUALIFIERS The top two bands in each High School Class are automatic qualifiers to the Iowa Jazz Championships. 3rd place band in each High School Class is eligible for a wild card invitation by the Iowa Jazz Championship Committee to the Jazz Championships. JUDGES There will be three judges assigned to each center. Judges will make written and verbal comments. SCHEDULE The schedule will be posted on the NWIBA website by the 4th Monday in January. Scheduling is done with a random draw that also considers distance from Le Mars. Warm up time begins 30 minutes before your performance time. Warm up time also includes travel time to the center. You cannot go over your allotted warm up time. Each band will have 20 minutes of time to play. Timing will begin with the first note. The official timer will be near the front of the performance area. If you are worried about running overtime, inform the timer to instruct you when you have one (1) minute remaining. If you play overtime, it may warrant disqualification (similar to IJC rules). BALLOTS / SCORES A sample ballot is on the NWIBA website. You do not need to bring ballots with you. You do not need to provide scores for the adjudicators. SOLOIST AND PERSONNEL SHEETS Available at NWIBA website. Bring five (5) completed copies of the official personnel and soloist forms to Le Mars. Drop them off in the contest headquarters (HS Main Office-Room 102). Be sure to use only the personnel and soloist forms from the website. If no official personnel sheets are provided, there is no possibility for soloist/section awards. PUBLIC ADMISSION FEE There is no admission fee charged for the district jazz band festival.

4 p. 4 of 5 CONCESSIONS Concessions will be provided by the Le Mars Music Boosters. They will be serving in the Commons of the High School. Please plan on eating on site to support the Le Mars Music Boosters for hosting this festival. We can not do it without them. No outside food is to be brought in. LOGISTICS / CENTERS Refer to the building map on the NWIBA website and look for signs throughout the building. Note the particular location of drop-off for your school.
