1 Vol. 61 Nos. 7-8 September October 2007 Belleville/Swansea Moose Tones The Belleville/Swansea Moose Lodge, Moose Tones, opened the game at GMAC Park with the Star Spangle Banner. The Moose Tones, directed by Ed Barbour, practice weekly in the Lodge. They were invited to open the Illinois Moose Convention in St. Louis but work schedules conflicted and they had to decline. They have performed at Lodge functions and visited nursing homes during last Christmas season. Ed Barbour the Director is kneeling in front. SUPPORT OUR TROOPS There is a box in the Lodge entrance. This box is for perishables to be sent to our Troops in Iraq. These items will go to the Squad of Andrew Hall, pictured on the left. Andrew has been in Iraq since April of this year and should be coming home in late October. We have other members with sons serving. Ken and Dorothy Schaefer and Geraldine Beelman are just two and I m sure there are more. Lets show these young Men and Women we support them all the way. HELP FILL OUR SUPPORT BOX.

2 Page 2 IT S THE MOOSE Time sure does fly. This year has gone so quickly but again quite fulfilling with all the things going on at the Moose. We did get to visit Moose Haven while at the convention in Orlando, Florida. We had a few mishaps while down there with lighting striking one of the buildings but no one was hurt and that is a real blessing. Unfortunately it rained the whole time we were at Moose Haven so we had to come back early but we were really impressed with what we saw. A lot of changes will be happening from the International Moose Convention and to see these please click on Congratulations to Paul Sanford!! He joined the order of the Fellowship while in Florida and I was honored to be at that meeting. Making the Merit Award is also a great honor. Thank you to all the members and to everyone that made this happen. This will be the last year for the Merit Award, but they have different honors that you may see on the website. Thanks to Ed Barbour for his endurance with our choir and for designing our Moose Tone logo. Thank you to Carolyn and Ralph Wottawa for getting the shirts together for the choir. We were honored to sing at the Grizzly Game on July 31 st. Great job Ed and choir. I am sure we all made our Lodge very proud. We were all suppose to sing at the opening of the State Moose Convention, but unfortunately with some of us working we could not make that engagement. We would all like to wish Bob Quirin the best after retiring as Administrator and best of luck also to Paula and Millie. Good luck to Lupe Ortiz who will be acting Administrator and Paul Sanford his office assistant during this time. The family picnic will be September 15 th and this will be headed up by our Junior Governor, Ed Barbour. I am sure we will enjoy the food and activities going on that day. Hope you all get to come and enjoy the Saturday with your lodge members and family. Always feel free to bring any problems before the board or you may also come and talk with me. This is your lodge and any new ideas or improvements should come from our members. Hope you had a wonderful summer!!!! Don Cooper, Governor FAMILY PICNIC Our family picnic will be September 15, 2007 in our beautiful Moose park. The picnic will begin at 12 noon and end at 5. Check your mail for picnic tickets for the raffles and return them as soon as possible. The raffles include money, BBQ Grill and Turkey fryer. This is always a great time for all ages. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy food, drinks and fun. On July 3, 2007 at the 119th International Convention in Orlando Marge was installed as Grand Regent. After 30 Years as Executive Secretary for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Marge retired in Hi Ladies Many changes have been sent to us from Moose International. If you need a list of these changes please let me know and I sould be glad to give you a copy. One of the changes is the Membership form. The men and women share the same form. Come see me for a new form. Thank you Rosemary Korte, Recorder Welcome New Co-Workers Janet Herr Evelyn Meagean Evelyn Eagan Diane Kettler Janet Herr Jacqui Landan In Memory Enrolled Passed Away Rita Kadlec Gladys Clark Dear Girls Can you believe, another 2 months has gone by? Things are moving along pretty well now. Thanks volunteers for coming forward International has announced some big changes and there are more coming. It should be very interesting. One big this is Committee Chapter Nights on the 2nd Wednesday of each month will now be called Activity Night. No more rituals as we know them now. Really not sure of what they will be. We ll just have to learn together, so come to meetings and see what happens. Business meeting is still on the 4th Wednesday and both are at Our overseas package still could use more items. If your child would be overseas what would you send them? Come on girls pitch in, Please.! Please remember to send in your dues when you receive your notice. They are being sent out early now so there should be no problems at getting them back on time. Did you know if your dues are not in by the day after the notice says they expire. You are considered a Co-Worker not in good standing. Meaning that if you should win at the Tuesday or Friday drawing you would not be eligible to win or be able to legally attend the dances, dinners or other functions. It would certainly make it so much easier if when you receive your notice just stick it and your check in the envelope and send it back to Mooseheart. Your membership means so much to all of your friends in our chapter, the kids at Mooseheart and Seniors at Moosehaven and we certainly hope YOU! Please be sure to put your W.I.D. # on your check. Thanks Or prayers go out to everyone who is or has been ill. Condolences to those who lost a loved one and a wonderful Happy Birthday to our September & October Babies. See you next time. In its place, we have developed a new award that will mark the recipients as the type of lodge that any other lodge should want to emulate. In order for this to happen, the criteria for earning this award must include items that would distinguish a Lodge as a successful fraternal operation. We are pleased to present to you the Premier Lodge Award. There will be two sets of determining factors utilized to determine award recipients; five mandatory criteria and 10 alternate criteria. All of the criteria are simple and easy to measure. The mandatory criteria are: Increase in active membership (members in good standing) over prior fiscal year Increase in net assets over prior fiscal year Increase in Endowment Fund donations over prior fiscal year. Representation at International Convention, Association Annual Convention and Association Mid-Year Conference (2 out of 3) Submission of Moose of the Year nomination form by July 1 The alternate criteria are: Four completed Community Service reports submitted by the quarterly deadlines Two completed Family Activities reports submitted by semi-annual deadlines Submission of Moose Legionnaire of the Year nomination forms by July 15 Submission of Rookie of the Year nomination form by November 10 Two high school students sponsored to Association Youth Awareness Congress Assigned membership quota attained At least $100 contributed to Yellowstone YCC Participation in Tommy Moose program Representation at International Convention, Association Annual Convention and Association Mid-Year Conference (Attendance at all three) Representation at leadership training session for Lodge officers A Lodge must meet all five mandatory criteria and a minimum of five alternate criteria to earn the award. The level of award earned increases with the number of alternate criteria met. The levels for the award are: 5 mandatory criteria met + 5 alternate criteria met = Bronze Award 5 mandatory criteria met + 7 alternate criteria met = Silver Award 5 mandatory criteria met + 9 alternate criteria met = Gold Award 5 mandatory criteria met + 10 alternate criteria met = Platinum Award Dinner for Four All new members are encouraged to use your FREE DINNER FOR FOUR certificate at any of our regularly scheduled dinners.
